you dont "need" to program them, just dial in a freq and go.
yes and no, they are super low power and technically as long as you stay off repeater channels you are fine.

I bought the Midlands ones to use last night, but they didn't get delivered until AFTER I went on a trail drive with @TRDFerguson

It might be back to the drawing board on the Midland radios...

Looks like you're going to be making friends with whoever doesn't bring one!

I have this model and while it's not dummy proof, it's pretty easy to use.

This thread keeps getting bumped and I'm really bummed that a show I got tickets for and waited 6 years for is on the 19th. Oh well, next time. Perhaps my shit will be more built by then.

I’m really pleased for you, that a show you got tickets for and waited 6 years for is on the 19th!!!!:fistbump:

Also, I show a 10 hour drive for you… from whenever you wake up on the 20th ‘til you roll into camp in time for a campfire and bed. Thinking about that cool concert the entire drive…. :)

I’ve got a 7 hour drive and working to get free to drive out on the 20th. Thursday-Saturday are the main days anyway. Do everything you love in one week.:boink:

Getting to know each other and trail runs! The organized events, awards, whatnot, are Friday and Saturday. I’ve been before, so will maximize my trail running near Sedona on Thursday, and hit anything I missed on Saturday. And join in Friday’s festivities which, unless there’s a change this year, will be up nearer Flagstaff.

I’m sure @papasmurf will tell us what’s up when the schedule’s finalize. My point is, no one should count themselves out because they’ll miss the front of the week. And fwiw, when I read you’ll be leaving out Thursday, it made me eager to meet you (on trail preferably) before you leave… or get you to delay your departure to LV. :D

I’ll be leaving Friday morning but now I’m curious about the festivities near Flagstaff. Do they take place at the beginning or the end of the day?

I got my radios and learned how to program my set of radios. What frequency will be used for this event?

Also, I'm a little confused as to how to get a license to operate these radios. Do I get a HAM or GMRS license? The waters are a little muddy for me on this and would appreciate the help!

We will get you the freq's we haven't identified them yet. As far as license, the HAM nazis will say get your HAM license, us rebels will say just stay off repeater channels your only outputting 5-8 watts so just role on race channels and public channels and you are good.
