Those with lifted trucks especially, how do you get ur pups in and out? Especially for older or heavy dogs as i would imagine jumping in and out might be painful for them.

Good topic. I have a DC and a younger nimble dog. I’ve tried a couple of the ramps that are available but they don’t work with the small door opening in the DC. Currently I just let him jump in and out of the back but there’s a concern when he gets older, and some have warned about dogs getting their paws caught in the running boards.

dog ramps and you can always build your own ramp. If the pooch is not too heavy, a little lift from you will help them in. Larger dogs can jump in.

I had a 120lb Presa that I used to lift in and out of my truck. She didn't like jumping or the ramp or the stairs I built. My other dogs just jump for now, but they are good with the stairs I built so I plan on using those when they need them. I just throw the stairs in the bed while driving around.

If you don't use the back seat, I saw a build on here where someone removed the rear seats and put in a solid flat platform instead, so his dogs could hop in and out more easily.

7" on a crewmax. Old girl is an 11yo 80lb pit. Not nimble enough to jump, door barely opens wide enough for a ramp, but its doable. But she's not coordinated or comfortable enough using a standard pre-made ramp. I just have to pick her up like a bag of sand. Wish there was a better way, but I'd need to build a custom one, and even then I'm not sure if she'd use it. I'd start working on the your deadlift. Good luck.

I did build a custom platform using mdf and pool noodles that helps her stay stable when in motion, and gives her an extra 4sqft of walking space. Didn't have to remove the seats, and the platform itself was removable. The "air ride" helps with an older less stable dog. She doesn't do well sucked into the seat back because of the bottom seat angle.

Just need a simple ramp with a coat of paint that has a little sand mixed in it plus a strip of bacon for each entrance or exit.

That looks like it would perfect for the crew cab? I have been looking for one for our male Akita getting up in age and he is a big boy. I was hoping with the seats flipped up and the door open all the way the ramp would work.

We have an 80lb WGSD that is old, she has a hard time going up & down the stairs in the house & refuses the ramp. She can get in the Prius so that's her vet taxi but for the trucks, it's pick her up and carry her out.

Yeah I agree I don’t if we will be able to get our male Akita to walk on it. Just need for when he goes to the Vet.

Either get a mastiff and do one end at a time. Or one that fits in a suitcase.

Getting out: I get ours to jump down to feet level in truck and then jump out to ground.

Getting in: I either lift her or try and make her jump onto feet area and then onto the rear seat.

We had to remove our OEM side steps as the gap was unsafe for dog legs getting hung up and breaking. When the time comes, it will be sliders with full top plate and tight to truck body

As you can see, she doesn't sit still when she's back there by herself on our drive to the forest for our daily trail run.

Yeah, my sliders don’t have a top plate and one of mine already “missed” and slid down on them. He didn’t get hurt, but precautions are needed now. Not sure what yet except supervision.

I grasp the beastie about the withers and deftly hoist their posterior into yon vehicle. The completion of this maneuver is met with moist schnozz in my face with wiggling nubs on yon beasties rump.

It is at this pointe that clearance for engine start up is granted and taxi to approved runway for departure.

It's been cleaned since then and a Costo blanket thrown down. I still get the odd dirty or mud paw print if the trails are wet.

She's too happy and excited to get mad. She's not doing it on purpose, so I live with it.

My back seat is way worse. I have seat covers and pretty much the dogs are the only ones riding back there. The front is pretty spotless and they’re not allowed up there.

Danes plural? My friend had one, used to take us a 1/2 hour to get him situated in the back of her Mazda. Miss that boy. Hated everyone but me and her, smart boy.

I have the Scout’s Mobile Mudroom. One of these will save your interior. Good looking pup by the way.

As far as how my Lab gets in. First I open the door, she looks at me, then proceeds to go potty, while she’s handling her business, I start the truck. I then tell her to get in the truck and she jumps up on the seat. I am going to look into a ramp though, bc she is 6 and I want to save her hips from jumping up and down all the time. She literally goes everywhere with me.
