Driver door actuator

Hello all 2nd gener’s. I’m hoping someone out there might have encountered the same issue I’m having with the driver side door of my 2007 Tundra Limited extended cab. The driver side door stopped unlocking about a month ago with either the remote key fob or the interior unlock switch. The only way the door unlocks now is with the key, manually unlocking the door from the inside or pulling the handle from the inside of the door. The interesting thing is that it still locks using all mechanisms (remote and interior unlock switch). Some DIY videos I found suggested making sure that the connectors to the door console were seated properly and they were, so bought a Toyota actuator replacement and installed it. The same problem exists with the door not unlocking with the remote and interior unlock switch. Does anyone have any experience with this problem and can you suggests the next thing to troubleshoot? Appreciate you assistance.

 

Sounds like switch is bad.

Or bad ground\broken wire somewhere.

 

I was talking about the driver door lock switch. You can remove it and test with an ohm meter. That’s what I would do anyway.

You’ll have to locate a diagram to know which wires go to the door switch.

 

The door lock actuators are known to go bad on Toyotas. You can either replace the whole actuator for $100+ or there are videos about how to change the motor inside of them for about $5. I've had to do the drivers door of my 2016 and now have another one that is acting up.

 

I think OP did that.

 

Does the actuator make a noise when you try to unlock it? If yes, you might just need to lube up the internals. If no, then probably electrical.

Thanks for the added details and picture Dalandshark. The driver side door (lock/unlock) switch works on all doors except the driver door. With that being the case do you still think that this switch would be the issue?

 

Good point. I would look into the wire from the actuator to switch.. it could be something in the plastic housing of the door switch though (not having seen the diagram) or connection into the door switch module.

 

Are you sure you hooked the bars back up when you installed the new actuators?

 

Both cables are hooked back up.

 

My driver door lock actuator died at 26k miles so it isn’t unheard of that the motor shits the bed.

 

I had the same problem with my 07' a month ago. However, my tundras key fob wouldnt lock the drivers side door. Did a search in this forum and found out it was the door actuator. Instead of spending 380$ on a new OEM door actuator from Toyota i found a youtube video of a guy that just replaced the little motor ($6 on Amazon) in your existing actuator that fixed the problem. Been over a month now and no problems.....

 

Please note: He replaced his actuator already.

I think the problem is from unlock wire(blue -----pink). There is no power.
