That's the thing, we are automated but they have an audit is manual and no one knows who these auditors are and they make up rules as they go it would seem. The freakin' blurry receipt was a freakin' $7 chick-fil-a breakfast. Use to be if it was under $25 we didn't even need a receipt.

Stores that check your receipt at the door, Costco is an exception to this.

Walmart makes me feel like a criminal whenever I go there. Half the crap I need is locked up, then they want to check my receipt on the way out; eats up my time. I like to hold out my receipt but not stop for them, they're more than welcome to make a scene out of trying to hold me up when I already paid, no way I'm waiting in a line there to get my receipt checked either...

I don't think I've ever been to a store that checks receipts. Maybe you guys should move out of the ghetto.

Yeah, it definitely makes me feel like I'm in the ghetto when I'm not. Seems it just alienates some customers and makes them want to actively avoid brick and mortar.

Receipt checks at the door is the reason I dropped my Sam's Club membership, and one of the reasons I don't shop at Walmart. Fry's had the same policy, but they weren't pushy about it. At Sam's Club, I'd carefully pack everything as the cashier rang it up so it would fit in the car. When I got to the door, I'd have to unpack everything and spread it out so that the twit at the door could check off each item on the receipt. The door twits at Walmart would watch me check out, then demand the receipt as I was walking to the door. They claim it's for loss control, but the reality is that it's a security show for management and a power trip for the twits at the door.

I swapped receipts one time after arguing with the Wife about it. Are they really checking it? well not in that case. Wasn't even a Costco receipt I gave them.

Got quoted in two different threads on the same subject! I think Walmart is the only one who really does it other than Costco, which we agreed to allow. I just walk by every time. My wife gets pretty annoyed saying “They’re just doing their job”.

I don’t have an issue with the person who has to ask, I’m just not going to let a store employee check what is now my property. It seems petty, which it is, but it’s one of my pet peeves.
I’ve almost definitely already done part of their job by using the self-checkout because they have two out of twenty registers open. If they stop me to make sure I didn’t steal anything, I’m going to make them pay someone to go get their cart from the Applebee’s on the far end of the parking lot.

In my experience, Costco does actually check. Sam’s just glances and makes a mark on it. They accomplish nothing but building a long ass line to get out.

That's been our experience, sort of. Whenever we go to Sam's Club, they'll check a few items, and then, I suppose, assume that since those 3 or so things aren't stolen, the rest is probably legit. LOL

I keep my Sam’s membership because my pays for it, and they do carry a couple of things that others either don’t have, or it’s cheap enough for me to go there. Same with Walmart. They do have a bigger selection than Target does.

Sams and Walmart are total shitholes next to Costco and Target though. Lines at Sam’s are always way backed up, while Costco actually has their shit together. Costco also takes good care of their employees, and it shows in their attitude.

We use the self checkout app at Sam’s. We never even go through a register and they still barely glance at the cart. They just have a need to delay everyone I guess.

Receipt checks just keeps the honest, honest. I don’t mind. What annoys me are the ones at Costco who cannot decide which exit line they’re going to; so I just move around them as I barley have the patience to be in any store- especially a store with groceries

We must be lucky, then; the one I go to (Jefferson City, MO) is pretty nice. I've seen it get busy but unlike Walmart, they actually *gasp* put out employees to help customers if it gets busy.

With that said, yeah, were there a Costco anywhere within 60 miles of where I lived, I'd be going there.

When I sit in a drive thru for 20 mins, and when I finally get to the pick up window the person doesn't say sorry for your wait, or thank you or anything. So when this happens, I look at them and say I'm so sorry for your wait, thank you for your patience, have a great day!!

They can't control the number of customers they have at the particular time you choose to go there...

True, But they can control how they greet a customer that has been waiting a long time.

I have walked in there with my own highlighter before and swiped my receipt myself. Then when I got to the door I told the old guy "you already saw my receipt"

The look of uncertainty was priceless but he waived me on.

Most of the time I just hustle by while they are distracted by another customer.

At my previous employer I learned the rules of travel fast.

You have a per diem based on the city your hotel is in, not based on where you are really going, so pick wisely. For example if I stayed in Plano TX the per diem was $57

Here was my game - find a hotel where breakfast is included. That stretches my per diem. Plus most of the time when I went to other states I was either visiting a vendor (they always provide lunch) or doing an all day meeting (company provides lunch). So my $57 would be a kick ass steak dinner.

We also had a deal where if the receipt was under a threshold you don't need an itemized copy. So I could buy fast food for $10 and go to a bar and grill to have a few beers and just turn in the credit card slip but omit the itemized reciept.

Ahh the glory days. My new company doesn't issue credit cards like my last one, I have to pay out of pocket and if they don't like what I bought its on me. They want itemized for everything and take no less than a month to pay back (including hotel and flight costs).

Project managers who don't take any accountability or put any effort into their projects. Don't bother asking the team who's responsible for a follow up when it's obvious to the rest of us that you should take it.

Asked one PM a question on a document he sent out for review looking for background information on why a certain decision was made. His response was to send it to the engineering contractor who developed the document and their response was to say that they just wrote it up the way the PM told them to.

How unnecessarily complicated grocery shopping has become over the last 25 years.

Long ago either items were full price or they were on sale. If they were on sale, you understood. The price applied to all customers.

These days you need to have some stupid "membership", and even that isn't enough. You have "buy this many" to reach a discount, and the volume required to earn the discount is never practical for a married couple. Why the hell would I buy 10 cans of coffee at once?

They don't stop at membership. You need to have an app too now, and interact with the app at the register, and hope that it works. Not only that, some places have multiple apps or are making deals with 3rd party apps. You have to do so much research and work if you want that fawking ribeye for $6.99/lb now.

Depends on the store. When I used to shop at Safeway, 2 for $2 used to mean $1 each. You didn't actually have to buy 2. But no other store does that as far as I know and Safeway may not any more either.

Funny - Publix grocery stores in Alabama (at least down on the coast) allow you to buy just one item and get the "10 for $10" price. But Publix in Florida doesn't - you have to buy 10 to get that price. Makes no sense.

Speaking of grocery shopping, Marty the Robot.

    upload_2021-7-7_7-50-50.jpg

Its not uncommon for it to cause traffic jams in my supermarket, since it’s unable to read social cues and move to the side (like a worker would) when it’s impeding traffic.

Replacing workers with machines always rustled my jimmies but the machine doesn’t even work… imagine if a store employee just slowly walked around the store, pissing off customers while looking for garbage on the floor, and when they finally find it, they don’t even clean it. They just stand there, impede traffic some more, and call someone else to do it. They’d be the most useless employee ever! But no, with all the money the supermarket saves by not paying their actual workers fair wages they were able to afford a $35k robot that does nothing but rolls around the store until it trips on something.

I’ve been holding this in for some time, apparently.

Some stores let you do that. Others the discount doesn't trigger on the register until the minimum volume appears.

Kroger has many items that are 10 for $10. If you have a membership card (free), they ring up as 1$ each no matter how many you buy. What ticked me off was when Kroger eliminated the senior discount. When I asked them about it they said that existing seniors would still get the discount, but anyone that signed up in the future wouldn't be eligible. When I asked why my existing senior discount disappeared, they told me I never had one.
