So I bought a new 2021 Tundra DC and the entire headliner along the back by rear window is detached with the fabric fraying. The parts guy/service guy was like how did this pass the initial inspection....

At first I was like dam this is not right so I called parts department and brought it in. They were going to do a warranty claim then a manager came into the picture, looked at it and went to the lot to drive two more Tundra's to look at them and they had the same issue.

The parts manager concluded this was normal and part of the factory truck so there was nothing they could do. I am like, politely, "how the hell is this normal to have the entire rear headliner detached" and he stated that is the way Toyota does it and concluded this to be true because two other trucks had it too.

    SOOOO,

    How can I fix this?

Is this really how Tundra come factory?

The gap near the rear window? Sadly yes. That’s normal I forget why. Buy an engineer confirmed with me on a customers truck a year ago that it’s “normal”

Mine became dislodged too... as soon as my youngest was able to reach the edge of it and pull it down... and he was swiftly corrected right after I was able to pull over in a safe spot..... lol.. anywho that sucks..

Yeah I agree it should be tucked in like the other Toyota liners. Mine is the same way on my 21 Pro.

    Sorry to the OP.
I've read this was a fairly common issue with the headliner..

    Haha! Funny!

Yea ok guys! Thanks! Good to get a confirmation.

you can see in the same area where the headliners meet at each side of the door there is that rubber insert piece that what I was told is connected to the frame and then covers the headliner by the door/window part.

I wonder if you can duplicate that idea for the rear headliner that is detached?

I keep looking for videos showing a headliner removal and installation for these trucks and can never find it. I'd love to get mine taken down and wrapped in something black and then paint the pillars and other Grey plastics.

They’re simple to remove. Pull the a b and c pillars, unplug from the a pillar area, pull the domes and grab handles. Roll down the rear window and with the headrests off it comes out pretty easy

Yep, and the front is like that too! The front of my headliner actually started to separate from the backing and hang down like some old POS! I have extended warranty bumper-to-bumper and they still wouldn’t cover it. I went to an upholstery shop and had them glue it back up. It looks like shit on the front edge but you can only see it if you look real close with your head upside down LOL. For a few hundred dollars my shop will just redo my entire headliner in the future.

I wonder if there’s somewhere you can use or get the plastic trim that’s used to cover the headliner by the tops of the windows for the rear detached portion of the headliner.

i’m sure there’s got to be some type of trim that upholstery people used to tuck in headliner
