409 hp is fine by me. Unlike a lot of guys around here, I couldn't care less about a hybrid version or some goosed up model to compete with the Ford Raptor, I don't want any of that crap. Give me a trouble free driveline with a good powerband. Turbos really help lower the rpm of peak torque which consequently gives you more horsepower at a lower rpm as Coal Dragger showed. That gives a much broader powerband which means better towing performance, no more revving the heck out of it to get it to go like the 5.7. Make it get 23-25 mpg highway and fix the godawful infotainment system and I'll be happy as a pig in slop.

Something I haven't seen mentioned is that it'd better run on regular gas, no premium, not even when towing like the Ford. It would be a major, major screwup by Toyota to have it require premium fuel. Paying 50 cents a gallon more for premium negates any benefit from better fuel mileage and would turn off about 95% of their target buyers.

Are you just talking about sound quality or are you having other issues with your truck?

The sound quality is fine, I'm talking about the interface itself. They need to put in apple car play. Mine's a 2016 so they might have improved it some since. Also the XM radio loses reception all the time, it'll lose reception any time I'm near a tree and it's blocking the line of sight to the satellite.

The Toyota Entune layout is awful, a third grader could design a better system. They obviously didn't put much effort into designing a competitive infotainment system, and I'm not an audiophile or technophile, I just want something easy and intuitive to use.

I’m very close to buying a new Tundra, I’ll keep the reg cab short 2007 for everyday use and hauling truck items if need.
The new truck will be a 21 or 22…. I’m just waiting to see the new truck and all the hype. Maybe it’s worth the wait, maybe not. However, saving more towards a 21 isn’t hurting me either. I’m sure somewhere there will be a new 21 available.

yep my wife’s expedition w/ 3.5eco boost says you can run regular or premium. I have run both and it runs fine on regular but there is a noticeable difference on premium with throttle response and smoothness . There are plenty of YouTube videos with people dynoing them on both and seeing 20+hp gains just by switching fuel.

but 90% of the time we run regular due to cost. On trips I’ll run premium since there is about a 5mpg increase in efficiency as well at highway speeds . If it specifically called for premium only I probably wouldn’t have gotten it.

Anyone out there considering getting a Maverick for a second vehicle? I'm debating between that or a 4 banger basic Tacoma as a daily driver in a few years and keeping the Tundra as a fun vehicle.

Since Toyota doesn’t have a 3/4 ton trucks with a 3/4 ton type engines, IMO they need to have a 1/2 ton engine built like a 3/4 ton engine. Meaning a lot of forged parts, cast iron block, heavy duty oil/coolant cooling, transmission, etc in order to hold up to hauling loads day after day. In other words an extremely durable engine under extreme use. The other manufacturers make you go up to a 3/4 ton to get that durability. But, I guess it doesn’t matter at this point, because whatever direction they went is set in stone now.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
Toyota gas made it abundantly clear that they have no interest at this time in pursuing the 3/4 or 1 ton truck market.

Ah, I see. No issues with my 2020 and they added Car Play for 2020-2021 so 2022+ will undoubtedly have it.

don't need more power. need more space in the bed while keeping the crewmax. I'd happily take a ttv6 w hybrid, long bed and crewmax. from Toyo that's the perfect truck.

Toyota Ecoboost will probably recommend premium fuel for severe duty which includes towing just like Ford does.

wow, 1.5 yrs on battery... I just replaced my original last summer... on a 2011 I bought new! That battery was over 9 years old! And, it was still ok, but I did notice it was lagging a bit at times, and didn't want to get stranded if it died. I've never had a battery last so long, in any vehicle!

So does the Lx570. Most Lexus engines require premium fuel compared to the Toyota equivalent, so I wouldn't suspect anything to change going forward.

Lexus calling for premium doesnt mean you have to put premium. I have 2008 lx 570 for almost 7 years of nothing but regular and trouble free. newer vehicles timing adjusts by computer according to fuel, i care less about dropped HP and MAYBE 1 mpg loss.

Can't wait to see what they do with the actual 3rd gen. Meanwhile, I have the perfect truck for my needs. Maybe I'll have to keep telling myself that when they release it. Maybe not.

my feelings as well, they aren't going to blow Fords powerboost numbers away. expectations are too high right now.

agreed, and it won't beat the Powerboost numbers. they got screwed from claiming all this since they delayed the tundra and Ford came out with the powerboost.

that doesn't mean the tundra is junk, but this world beater crap is stupid, its going to come out behind Ford, mark it down.

it also won't have the generator built in either.

I mean, for me, a Tundra with increased payload/mileage, with an 'Ecoboost' withOUT Ford issues? That alone has me excited.

I would agree, but thats not world beating shit except in reliability which we all know it will be better in.

if we aren't getting "world beating" performance , then just give me my damn 6.2 Iforce V8 , done..

cool, I get that, if you want something like that, I get it.

I dont really want a NON "world beating" maybe more reliable Toyota eco boost copy. thats dogshit IMO

I would rather have a larger V8 and modern functionality with much higher quality materials and then the coils in the rear for a much better ride and lets leave it simple but good if we aren't going to actually compete or innovate.

They beat the world with the last new Tundra design. So much so that it is still relevant 14 years later.

I don't think every decision they make is gold (see all my posts regarding the ext trans cooler), but what makes you think they can't set the bar again this time?

in 2007, yes they raised the bar with the 5.7 for a year or so.

I think they would have set the bar if they hadn't delayed the tundra release, but now with the powerboost and lighting out, I just dont see it.

say what you want about Ford, but they have done a damn good job with these last few models.

I think Toyota is too conservative to come out with an on board generator or similar type level innovation and that powerboost output is going to be damn hard to beat.

the one thing though, like Tim speculated on is a hybrid V8, I don't think that is correct, but what would that even look like, nobody else would have one.
