Please excuse my post if this already has been talked about- I did search and did not see anything clear.

I am in the market for a 2021 Tundra and have narrowed it down to the TRD Pro and the 1794. Can anyone speak to the residuals of the 1794? I know the Pro is HOT HOT HOTTTT and wanted to see how how hot the 1794 is.

My plan is to drive the truck for a year or two until the new gen comes out. I do not do any off roading anymore (recently had a 5th gen 4runner with a ton of mods). Its more or less going to be something to use to go camping, haul kayaks and transport big things. :)

    Thank you in advance

Either will be fine for your use, it sounds like. If you have no preference, buy the one that you can get the best deal on or that has the features/color you like. You'll do fine on resale in a year or two. Tundras have always held their value well. Regardless of how awesome or not awesome the 2022 will be, the demand for the old port injected 5.7 V8 will be there.

Check the build link in my signature.
If you're leaving it bone stock and flipping it in 1-2 years, you'll get a higher resale on the TRD Pro because of the limited production numbers and the "exclusivity" of that trim package. The 1794 and Platinum are both the "top level" trims, but are also produced in much higher numbers. You'll still be looking at good residual on the 1794, as you currently are on ALL Tundras, but the highest is going to still be the Pro. Of course, your chances of finding a Pro at a significant discount on the front end are also a lot lower than for any other trim levels. Going rate on Pros is typically MSRP to MSRP+$10k (especially if you're looking for the exclusive color).

I don't know about the new ones, but I drove a 2014 Pro before I got my 1794 and I didn't like the way it drove on the road as much as the 1794. Too "squishy" if that makes sense. Turns & response just seemed poorer. Probably the off road suspension. My 1794 drives like a big car... Did good for the mild "off-roading" too. :) Bit then it does also have that sexy pro grille...

1794 is more “polarizing” interior wise - it has its fans and haters.

Black is “neutral” - not as many “love it” - but it’s always a good choice.

Kinda like exteriors - a Brown 1794 might look great to some - but others will pass.

A Pro in Lunar is a 1 shot only thing - only 2021 for current body in that color. But buy what you love - resale be damned. If it winds up reselling better if you ever sell - all the better.

Suspension wise - you can make a 1794 a Pro - but hard to make a Pro a 1794 (cheaply).

To each their own - I liked the 1794 look and almost bought a used one - but the Pro was just too tempting and the only used 1794 I could find was not a color I was happy with.

This here. The Pro is going to be worth a good bit more if you sell or trade in a couple of years from now.

I bought the 1794 because I wanted a specific interior color, the Mesquite brown exterior could also be had in a Pro but not the interior.
The pro has a little louder exhaust but I put an 8" DD exhaust on mine with Kings F/R. Did I spend more ? Yes but I have exactly what I wanted

Thank you! I based on your feedback and research on this forum, I think I am leaning towards a Platinum or Pro---whatever I can get my hands on without paying these "market adjustments"

I'd ask that question here: https://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/62988/toyota/tundra/2021-toyota-tundra-lease-deals-and-prices

You can get the actual residuals that Toyota finance will use in your area for a standard lease term.

I would expect that the Pro would have a better residual in a private sale, simply because it is a more sought after vehicle than the 1794. (And I say that as someone who bought a 1794 instead of a pro! ). Though obviously, you'll also pay more for a Pro upfront.

I bought a 2016 CM 1794 4X4 in October of last year with 32,500 miles for about $40K (including the approx. $1,500 worth of CPO warranty). Just yesterday, I checked Edmunds and the trade-in value is $46K with 36.5K miles, which is crazy good. I would seriously consider selling if I hadn't already spent about $8.5K in upgrades toward making it a TRD Pro (I did all the mods myself). I'm still happy with a $48.5K investment in a 2016 Tundra with low miles that has all the bells and whistles (and I like the interior) of the 1794 and the looks and off-road capability of a TRD Pro (less the bed stamp and hood scoop). However, if I had to do it all again and I could find a nice TRD Pro with low miles, I might go that route in lieu of the 1794...tough decision.

    Your truck looks great!

I do like the bells and whistles of the 1794/Platinum. In y area, all of the pros with low miles are going for more than brand new ones.

    Okay
Ok, I was wondering because I just saw a dealer in South Lake Tahoe has a white pro listed for MSRP.

    Many Thanks for the compliments!
I don't think you can really go wrong with a Platinum, Pro, or 1794 and it's more about what features mean the most for you and the added cost to upgrade to those you might want. Of course, and as mentioned by several, the resale is likely better on a Pro. The one variable that could be worth a thought too is the 2022 model. It's not for me as I'm too afraid of first year model bugs, but the 2022 3.4L V6 twin turbo with 400+ ponies and a possible electric hybrid boost for the TRD Pro (500+ HP) sure is enticing. However, I'm old school and it sure is hard to move away from the long proven and reliable 5.7L V8.

Best of luck with your decision and please let us know with pics!

haha! I said that about my 5th Gen 4runner after I sold my 3rd gen. 2 years later, I ended up with full bumpers, armor, kings and Gobi rack.

It looks like Dealers arent moving much from their MSRP price here on the East Coast. Tundra Premiums are going for 1k below MSRP at 54,000. I read some people bought their Premiums at 48-50K. eekk

I went with the 1794 with TRD Off-Road pkg (2020). I don't really off-road, but I drive pretty rutted-out, low maintenance roads and drive through pastures, fields and such almost every day. I also wanted the extra amenities like dual climate control for my wife and electric folding mirrors. I guess I wanted some luxury with a off-road/work ability. To me the 1794 fit the bill and I have not been disappointed. It'll do the work, but it is nice enough for a night on town. I'm a Kansas country boy, so the look of it suits me. To me, the Ford King Ranch and the Ram Longhorn are too gaudy. This is a more understated "country" and just right for me. Just like my plain ropers (I hate the fancy heels, toes and stitching, lol). The thing has been dead nuts reliable and hasn't missed a beat.

Thanks ejes! If there was a Platinum w/TRD Off Road, that could be close to best of both worlds...and I reallly like the TRD Skid plate.

I think I am leaning towards the Platinum and modding it down the road...hopefully the wifey isnt reading my messages..lol!
