I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
    I’m good with my 2007.

I can get it repainted, re-skin a few doors that have rust, and just do a few more maintenance items. No need to buy a new one.

So if Toyota wants my business they’re going to have to bring something I want to drive bad enough to buy.

If I recall correctly, the timing belt is near the bottom of the engine at the rear so, to replace it, you have to take the engine out or something like that?

Oil pump belt and I believe it's the transmission has to be dropped. Called for at 150k.

I've driven almost 600,000 miles in Toyotas (94 pickup, 2005 4runner and 2015 4runner) and have never had a breakdown.
In between those I drove a Jeep GC and I had 4 breakdowns in 80,000 miles.
I had Fords and Chevys in the past and they always broke down.

I just can't really trust another brand.

Pretty much what I’ve been thinking too. If I had to pick a new truck tomorrow it would be a Ford with the new 7.3

Hey Coal Dragger, Tell is what you really think!
Honestly that was a Great post and opinion based on actual assessment of past.

Best part of all that was “5.7 in 2007 Cock smacking every other 1/2 ton”

So if they did that then, Why not again?

Have some optimism of... “The Toyota Cock smack!”

Right now my plan is to get one. Like some have said, it depends on what they offer. Also like some have said, my resolve to wait is wearing thin. I have a '16 Taco now in immaculate shape and book is excellent on them. It's not paid off but it's close. Like others have said, I'm looking for utd tech, more power and that sweet sweet cabin space of a crew max. Also better gas mileage. My taco is lifted a bit with bigger tires so mpg isn't really all that great. Those are my main wants in a new truck. All this v6 tt talk has me worried though. I have no experience with turbos or twin turbos. I would like to think that I could trust Toyota's reliability though. I have no issues getting a 6-cylinder with turbos if the reliability is there. I'm actually turned off by the V8 just because of the gas mileage otherwise I would probably own a tundra by now. My taco is just too small of a cabin for the family. If Toyota drops the ball on anything with the new tundra, I'm afraid I'll have to look elsewhere and I really don't want to.

Your 2007 blew everyone else's doors off when it hit the market. It was so far ahead, it's actually still relevant. I love my brand-new 14-year-old dinosaur of a truck. It'll tow and haul everything I need it to. It's thirsty, sure, but I more than make up for that over the long run in the amount of repairs and dealer visits I don't have to worry about. Plus, the race I care about is to 300k miles. I'm almost guaranteed to get there with fewer headaches with this truck than with any other.

The 2nd gen Tundra was a world beater. They're saying the coming 3rd gen will be as well. I bet it's going to be awesome. They are the most profitable automaker in the world. I don't think every decision they make is gold, but I bet the next Tundra will be fantastic. I kinda don't want to want one, though, if you know what I mean. I just got one!

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
I had the SS in for a steering rack update a few years ago, at the nearest Chevrolet dealership I deal with for service on that car. The used car manager asks me every time that car goes in for an oil change about trading it in or selling it. It’s rare, I know what I have and it’s not for sale, but he still asks. Offers a loaner while the rack is getting whatever updated connection it needs according to their service bulletin. I told him no thanks since the wife drove the car up and I followed in the Tundra.

So now he wants to take the Tundra in trade, because he needs inventory blah blah blah. Says “hey we can get you in a new Silverado that gets better mileage!”.

What made him think a dude who owns a 2015 SS that I paid a gas guzzler tax on cares about mileage I do not know; but I humored him and asked how a new truck would save me money. Of course the reasoning of less fuel costs came up, and I asked him how a new truck with a payment would be so much cheaper in fuel that my overall costs would go down vs a truck that has been paid off since 2012? Newsflash bud, I don’t spend $700/month on fuel which would be a truck payment and that new truck will also still need fuel.

Yeah it's the oil pump belt, why they designed it that way is beyond me, if you have a shop drop the transmission that's a pretty expensive maintenance item.

I understand the diesels pull better and get better milage doing it, plus there all the rage now. Around here nothing but 3/4ton diesels riding around towing and hauling nothing. But for what they cost you have to be pulling a lot for it to make sense, my wife and me calculated the costs between a gasser and a diesel and I just couldn't make it work out for me and I'm pulling my camper once a month 4-6hrs away on average. The cost of these trucks is getting ridiculous, my buddy just spent 75k on his diesel 2500hd.

I'm curious what Toyota has up there sleeve that hasn't already been done, for it to "blow you away" it would have to be something not currently out there.

A new mouse trap in today’s technology world is difficult to imagine- yet I’m sure if anyone can think it up, the industry Giant Toyota...Certainly will.
Just like in 2007 when the Tundra really blew up the market with the 5.7,they probably will do that again.

Back in 99 they came out with a land cruiser that was far and away leaps and bounds past the competition and made a Suv design that I was driving not long ago (2005 model). It had a design that was relative to modern vehicles except the tech.
What I’m saying is the new Tundra probably will also be a good bit ahead of the competition and prevail, so they don’t have to redesign for another decade

My dad actually bought a gmc with the diesel and a friend of his had done the same earlier. His friend’s started getting terrible mileage and then the engine blew. My dad’s has since started to get worse mileage as well so I personally wouldn’t get one. As far as diesels go, since many here in this forum would love one, why don’t we find a tundra with a wrecked engine and just replace it with a reliable diesel? I’m no mechanic and couldn’t do it myself but it’s just a thought.

Sold my Cruiser, Daily drive my Short bed reg cab 2007 Tundra..... And Am awaiting the new Crewmax for observation. If a stinker, I’ll get a 2021-2020 v8.
Don’t want any issues, so I’ll see how it turns out with reviews and I’m sure this forum will have the true opinions. If it continuously shifts looking for best mpg, I’ll pass on that. Yet I’m sure Toyota spent a large amount of time and money to have a Winner in the truck market... I don’t think it will be a stink

I’ve been thinking…. I am moving in a few months so I’ve been purging all kinds of old stuff, unused stuff, etc. I have a small sports car that I can get a good price that I really like but i really don’t use it much. If I sold it I could convince my wife to a new truck after the move if I get the platinum model. Just a thought…. Get rid of the insurance cost of the sports car also.

The news about the '22 Tundra sure sounds exciting. Unfortunately, I'm too distrusting of any auto Mfr. to be the first fat ass back in the water after Jaws ate my dog and neighbor's kid. Think I'll wait until 2023 or 2024 to upgrade. Hopefully, all the sharks will be cleared out by then...

Maybe a Cummins turbo hybrid will be shoehorned in there and “dominate the market”

My gut tells me that we will be disappointed. Personally I think they are sugar coating a simple hybrid drive chain. Which in my opinion is not a “world beater”
