The 3.0 has its growing pains though, buddy if mine is a master Chevy tech and he was telling me about the things failing on them. It's a very complicated engine with almost every aspect computer controlled which equals a lot of failure points. Most recently he has been dealing with the cooling issues on them. In a few years it may be bulletproof but I would still be worried about how complex it is, lots to fail.

Agreed, I'm starting to think what they have might already be passed up and they are scrambling to improve it.

Agreed, hence the lack of information and delays.

Diesels today are extremely complicated due to the emission control systems for NA use. Again, I'd rather pay at the pumps then the garage.

that is what is going to happen, with the exception of one thing...

the one reason there is to buy a tundra above all the others....on the average, they are more reliable. (which ironically, my tundra had more problems than my ram so far, ie. fuel pump and no truck for a week)

other than that, it won't lead the class in anything.

What matters for us here, who like tundras, is, do we like it, is it better than the 2014-2021 it replaces, and do we value that reliability so much that we will buy vs going with the others that have class leading stuff in all the other spots.

The circus of the next generation Tundra and lack of information of what's coming forced me to buy a 2021 to avoid the uncertainty.

Complex. Computer control of every aspect of the engine.

Hmmmmm sounds like something Toyota is about to also introduce to their 1/2 ton.

This is the problem with Toyota in a nut shell.

They don’t see the value to the customers. Well guess what Toyota? The customers want what they want, not what you decide they want.

    Yep.

Unfortunately there were a lot of us who bought the current 2007+ generation of Tundra because it had the most performance in the class. At least when it was first released it sure did.

I buy vehicles that are enjoyable to drive, and a big component of that enjoyment for me is effortless power. Especially in a large vehicle that I don’t intend to drive in a sporting manner where handling is also a big deal. I want a truck with best in class power, not because I need it BECAUSE I WANT IT.

If there are other options that are going to better fit that bill I’ll buy them instead of a Toyota. The last car I bought I wanted a sport sedan, Toyota doesn’t make one at all, in any form or fashion. They didn’t get my business.

Looks like Toyota wants to abandon the market segment of guys that like big power in a truck. I’ve spent enough time in enough GM and Ford large SUV’s over the past 14 years to know that they can all make at least 250K, which at the rate I drive will take 25 years. So if they bring some lame also ran shit, I’ll take my business elsewhere or just keep on trucking with my 2007 and buy a non-pickup.

If they don't think it's a profitable addition to their line, then I don't blame them for making what they believe to be a good business decision.

I think it will be a improvement over the v8 fuel economy, the payload, brakes - and just about everything else that Tundra has as imperfections.
I also think they want to win the game, not play it. Yet win by there own way... not how others play the game. Hybrid and Reliability is what they have been working in most likely

    Well their metrics are off.

Ford sells every Raptor they can pump out, Ram sells every TRX too. Both low volume high priced niche vehicles.

GM sells every 3.0L Duramax they can make. Same for trucks with the 6.2L because that motor is just a damn beast.

There is a profitable market for trucks with non basic bitch powertrains.

Well their current strategy has resulted in some of the lowest sales volume of any 1/2 ton. So what you’re saying is that their way basically sucks a bag of dicks. At least if the goal is selling trucks, and capturing market share.

I'm not saying this to be snarky or anything, just trying to help you save a little bit of trouble - but there's a little link under each comment that says "Quote", if you click that - You can insert the quote without having to post a picture of it. Whichever way works for you is fine, just making a suggestion.

On topic, I don't think the truck market is a huge part of Toyota's business, and they know they wont be able to gobble up much of the market share from the other, domestic companies.

    The Toyota manufacturing process absolutely.

Toyota NA truck division marketing and product R&D? Not so much.

Toyota is the most profitable auto manufacturer in the world; in 2019 they made $240 Billion USD, over $100 Billion USD more than Ford. While we are all Tundra enthusiasts here on this forum, unfortunately the Tundra is not the big moneymaker for Toyota, and they don't really see themselves as being competitive in that market against the domestic brands. Trust me, I would love for Toyota to start pumping out badass Trucks that blow the domestics out of the water, but that just isn't where they feel they can make the most money.

I'm just trying to use a little common sense to curb peoples enthusiasm - because a lot of people in here seem to think Toyota wants to compete in every facet of the domestic market, and that's just not the case. They've made it clear many times.

I’m not sure how any of your companies out there make products or do services that don’t care if they succeed... yet I’m pretty sure Toyota wants! To excel in every aspect of the industry they partake in.

I am well aware of all of that. I am hoping to have a reason to buy another Toyota because I am excited about the product, but that appears less and less likely.
