It was an expensive learning experience, and unfortunately, a member that has forgot more things than most any two people on here know was banned.

Bug and Tar remover at Wally World is cheap and very effective...FYI.

I learned the hard way with bird crap on my Tundra. It left a couple spots on my MGM truck. It was rather disappointing.

    Wash mine weekly :D

Also @MicahTX - I've been using meguiars ultimate quick detailer (black bottle) on the headlamp plastic. Takes any residue and prevents water spots. So far it hasn't torn anything up.

I sold a guy a brand new sequoia, he was back a couple months later for new wheels. He tried to clean them with etching cleaner for bare aluminum.and destroyed the clear coat. That was an expensive brain fart.

You might have to wet sand them and then hit it with the headlight restore at the end. Try 3000 grit first and if that doesn't get the scratches out you'll have to step down in sandpaper.

This is a Phoenix satellite terminal. When I was a young troop, I accidentally raised the lightening protection rod (the thing the arrow is pointed at) and then stowed the dish which produced a quarter sized hole into a brand new, VERY expensive piece of military equipment. I had to sneak into the compound at night with bondo and spray paint to fix it before the Captain saw his new 2.5 million dollar toy had been customized.

Ouch that's an expensive mistake to make. Good thing you got it fixed before the Captain saw the new unapproved mod. Lol

Sorry to hear you learned this after you finished cleaning. Just a few other tips to watch out for.

I used to always wash my previous vehicles at various car washes. What I noticed is the stiff bristle brushes at the car wash leave swirl marks in the clear coat. Now I always wash my truck with a soft sponge Instead of using the stiff bristle brush. I just bring my own bucket and my own sponge. My paint stays more swirl free now.

Another thing I learned from a friend is the bird poop is often more damaging in the spring time to your paint. Some birds eat berries in the spring and that makes their poop more acidic. That in turn eats at the paints clear coat faster. So don't leave it on your truck for long periods of time unless your tired of the paint color. Haha

That's what I do to. BYOB! I even take good car wash soap with me as well, gotta have plenty of suds. The swirls really show on black.

If you want the best wash. Look up foam cannon for a pressure washer. I now wash my vehicles at home and the foam cannon shoots suds over 20' away! It's by far the best way I've ever washed my truck!

Keep the paint pretty? That ship has sailed for the truck. The biggest problem we have now is how to match the scratches when we get the fenders painted...

I would have done the same thing @Sean266 did, but I would have phrased it differently. Alex just said the wrong thing at the wrong time. Usually Sean is pretty laid back until you push certain buttons. Hell he has deleted plenty of my stuff and sent me a PM to explain (when he fully knows he doesn't have to) why. I never take it personal on here. After all, it is a cool website, but there are rules and code of conduct.

In the end, not my site, not my mods, not my members, not my care. I'm only responsible for what my thumbs do.

Sometimes a few a day. Sometimes zero for weeks on end.

You also add value to the site. Someone with 13 posts in 6 months? Not so much. That doesn't mean you're unbannable (none of us are- even staff) but sometimes it's a reminder is all that is needed.

He wants to be a dick, be a dick on TT. I told him "don't be a dick" he got butthurt over it and snapped back.

It's really mod discretion ...just have to use your best judgement at the time. Some things I have a zero tolerance on...some I'm more laid back (as you mentioned) but if one is going to basically tell me to pound sand ...why bother, ya know?

I'll get off my rant now :)

I have a friend who once said "Act like a Bafoon and you get treated like a Bafoon". He was the manager at a bar I used to hang out at. After a few people acted a Bafoon and was treated as such everyone else learned not to act a Bafoon in his bar. I believe that is why this is the best forum. No one is allowed to act like a Bafoon. Besides the guy was warned.
