I wish they weren't illegal up here. Makes no sense as a normal pocket knife can be opened as fast or faster. Canadian laws forbid anything that can be opened GRAVITY FED. Didn't even know Kershaw made them. Even Kershaws are hitting the No Import list, as they have the thumb stud. Spyderco too with the hole in the blade.

I had a Balisong as a kid, they are fun. Never cut myself. Just make sure to always hold the side with dull edge. A few basic moves are all you need to impress your buddies/family around the campfire.

I've resorted to learning "Zippo Tricks" as they aren't illegal up here yet. Give it time, our Government will find something illegal up those too.

That’s ridiculous. No matter how good I get with the balisong, I’ll always be able to open pretty much every other knife I have faster.

There’s really no such thing as an illegal knife in Texas anymore. Stilettos, switchblades, etc are all allowed. I can walk down the street with a sword on my back if I want.

I have the fullsize Grip. I need to look at the mini grip and the mini-crook river.

What do you think about lanyard holes? Have you ever used a lanyard on your knife? I have added a lanyard hole to only one knife, and that was by request on a custom cleaver. For the most part I have thought of lanyard holes as trendy but I realize I might just be unaware of a real need.
Anyhow, tell me what you think...

I don't use them, but it doesn't stop me from buying a knife with one.

I'm guessing they have some practical safety use for chopping or hacking. But lets be honest, most of us are not using them to this degree.

Personally the only time I would use a lanyard hole is with a machete or similar large cutting tool.

My Barkriver Kephart and ESEE 4 both have lanyard holes. I've tried lanyards on each and honestly never found them to be all that useful. Lanyards imho are mainly to prevent you from dropping and losing your knife. The only time I've been at risk of that as been while cleaning a fish in the hole during ice season. I got smart and did the cleaning away from the hole...

Other than that, lanyards tend to just get in the way and get hooked on things when pushing through thick brush.

Kind of my take on them as well. They remind me of the string my mom would run through my coat sleeves and attach to my mittens so I wouldn't lose them. The one I have on my machete is shredded from blackberry thorns and I need to just cut it off and toss it.

I'm neutral on them. My only knife with a lanyard is a multi-tool that I carry on my day pack for hiking. I broke the factory clip and lash it my pack with a lanyard and carabiner. Otherwise not my thing.

I think I’ll continue not including lanyard holes unless they are requested

Those 3 rivets really do look like moons rising over some alien landscape with a green sky. Sort of like Monument Valley.

Lanyard on a fixed blade, very helpful if a survival knife needs a bit of paracord or if hacking and chopping, perhaps batonning firewood and want not to lose grip

Been carrying this lately for my work edc.

    CJRB Barranca Brown Burlap Micarta

    This knife is really impressive.
The action is like butter with the ceramic ball bearings.
    It’s a D2 tool steel and it’s strong as a hammer.
At a little over .13” thickness it’s a screwdriver and a pry tool.
It holds an edge very well.

If you’ve ever been on the fence about CJRB, I would say, go for it.
High quality at an aggressive price point.

Included with a lanyard hole that never gets used.

    Yes! It’s sharp!

This clip point cleaver is entirely the owners design. I enjoyed making this lanyard hole and the owner uses this knife lots! Handle is Brazilian cherry.FCB6B639-736C-476C-9EAD-DC5496B3FA9F.jpg 6C6414AC-33B5-4B4B-8E3F-94D6DFFCB2E6.jpg

Most of the people who have asked about fillet knives are fishing salt water. Carbon steel does poorly in this kind of corrosive environment. I am not set up for heat treating stainless steel at this time, maybe in the future?
