So I’m coming up on 10K miles which means I need my second service. My appointment is on Tuesday, BUT, I need to make a drive this weekend that’s going to put me over 10K.

Do I lose the rest of my free oil changes if I’m 50-60 miles past service due?

What my dealer told me is you really just get two oil changes anytime within the first two years or 25,000 miles. Since the factory service interval on oil changes is 10,000 mi, that means you get two oil changes. They are yours to use as you see fit.

If you’re referring to your maintenance reminder light, it’s nothing more than a mileage counter set to go off every 5k miles.

When I bought mine, I made them provide for 24 months of oil changes at 5,000 miles which I'm sure I still paid for. If you read the manual, there are things like towing, 4x4, and environmental conditions reasoning for the 5k changes.

I'm in Canada, so we don't get the automatic free oil changes etc. I worked 2y of free service into my deal and it turns out it was a $ value. When I found that out, I used it to buy TRD Sway Bars.

Actually I was told they would not change it early. They even confessed to not changing my 4Runner oil when they previously stated it was done at requested around the 500 mark. They straight said they lied to me because I said "well you changed my 4Runner early". Phukfaces will never work on my trucks!!

Oil change interval recommendation for a Tundra are every 5000, not 10,000. I got 5 oil changes under Toyota care. Sounds like i got the hookup or they are laughing at you while you drive away with only 2...:rofl:

Yes that’s right. They will cover oil changes at 5k intervals. It’s right in the manual.

5k mile oil change recommendation is just for FFV. Non-FFV is 10k miles - It's right in the manual (page 38): https://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/omms-s/T-MMS-18Tundra/pdf/T-MMS-18Tundra.pdf

Telling you to rotate your tires and follow 5K service items, which for 99% of us, don't include oil change.

Maybe i missed it, but didn’t see anything on page 38 the differentiates between a FFV or non-FFV. There could have been changes along the time frame between 2018 and my truck(2015), however its the same engine. I will say the only change i am aware of with FFV is if you choose to burn E-85, the intervals for oil change increase to every 3000 miles.

Does your dingle get a tingle at 5000 miles that makes you aware that the oil needs to be change? Or you happen to believe Toyota when they say 5000 miles is OK, but when Toyota says 10,000 miles is OK you disagree? Or you are some sort of oil scientist to licks the dipstick to determine how much life is left in the oil?

Here’s the FFV maintenance and warranty guide. Still on page 38, and yes, that one shows the 5k mile recommended oil change interval. My point was just to be mindful of the spectrum of options on our vehicles (year, engine, etc) before referencing recommendations from Toyota. I agree that 10k seems like a long time between changes, but I think Toyota knows what they’re doing, so I trust their guidance.
Edit: the link to the FFV guide would probably be helpful https://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/omms-s/T-MMS-18TundraFFV/pdf/T-MMS-18TundraFFV.pdf

Yeah, if you’re operating your vehicle outside of normal use, you change it sooner. That’s pretty standard. But the recommendation for normal maintenance, on a non-FFV 5.7, is a 10k OCI. :boink:

If long idling, a car top carrier, dusty roads, or heavy loads is a good enough reason, it’s 5k. ;)

I am doing 10k miles of towing with mine non-stop. 500 up on Saturday 500 back on Sunday every weekend for 10 weeks straight while dragging 5000 or so pounds through the dessert from 1500 elevation to 8400 feet then back down to 4200 feet along the run up. I'm having it changed every 3k and had to pay for only the oil change part of the second Toyota care maint. They did the oil on the first one at 3k based on my calling it severe use towing miles. Now the next Toyota care interval will be free then I will pay for the oil but not rotation again the one after that.

The local dealership just changed mine at 5K at no charge, the service guy said he used my 10K Toyota Care freebie. He also said I could repeat the process at 10K (using my 20K freebie) since it's very unlikely I'll hit the requisite mileage in 24 months. For me, going 10K between changes (or in my case, going another 15K before 24 months is up) is unlikely, plus I tow some, and to me, it just seems bad to go that long in-between changes.
