Am I crazy to attempt to assemble my Eibach coil overs with this compressor kit? The coils are so thick I can’t get the safety pin in. I don’t think I have to compress it very far to get the top mount on, and I really don’t want to pay $170 to have them assembled. That’s the best quote I could get from a shop near me.

    Think grenade safety pin......
$170 is pretty steep just to assemble a couple coilovers. I wouldn't pay more than $100 tops.

I can’t get anyone around here to do it that cheap. Pretty annoying because they could have it done in 10 minutes. I have all the parts already.

Sorry friend, I would hate to see you maimed or worse. Being in a hurry has bitten many people in the ass, myself included. Shop around a little more for a better rate to assemble them or see if you can get your hands on a better compressor somewhere.

Don't attempt it! Your emergency room visit will not be fun and don't even think about the costs. These are not Honda Civic springs, these are extremely dangerous.

Slee Offroad in Golden will do it for around a $100 if I remember correctly. But yeah, I wouldn't do it without the safety pin, that's a lot of energy you are messing around with.

I’d probably grind the safety pin so it can at least hold it in place.

I look at it as costing $70 to get it done...the first $100 is a sunk (acceptable) cost.

SO for an extra $70? you're all set.

You mentioning Civic springs reminded me of my sister's Miata. She bought some coilovers and needed to assemble them so I put all my weight on the top hat so she could tighten the bolts , no spring compressor needed

If you're hurting for cash I would go the no compressor method. In my opinion it is less risky than the wrong compressor method. I have done it both ways on different vehicles and wouldn't use that kind of compressor on a truck spring, those are for flimsy car springs.

I agree thats shitty to know a shop can do something in 10 minutes and be done, but they want 2 hours labor. It's just overhead and profit to them, they have to make a living.

Alright alright alright. I’ll take these back to auto zone and pay someone else to do it.

ER visits are only a $250 deductible for me but I’d like to keep my teeth... or my jaw... or my hands for that matter.

    My wife thanks you guys.

Nothing wrong with that. You don't get wealthy from spending money. Still, the no compressor method is better than the wrong compressor.
