If I understood correctly, if you have a device such as an Echo and yours is connected to your internet, your neighbor has an echo but doesn't have home internet (who doesn't really), your neighbors device can piggyback off your device and use your internet.

I think this breaks a lot of rules, brilliant idea though. I don't have any of these devices.

Homes in my neighborhood are relatively close together and everyone has Wi-Fi.
Some cheap B@$T@RD$ piggy-back on their next door neighbor's signal when given the password ~ no need to spend the Big Dollar$ with the cable company.
    Go figure . . .

In my line of work, I've seen what people use the internet for. No way anyone is knowingly using mine without my permission.

I'll see if the setting is on the Canadian Alexa. I'm not a fan of the home speakers like Alexa and Google Chrome, but we have a couple in the house.

There is not a single thing about this that I ever want to be a part of!

Though they swear it is only for your benefit I am dumbfounded by this development myself.

Evidently it will be enabled automatically to some extent if you have a device that is Amazon Sidewalk Bridge ready and you have to go in and turn the feature off if you can even comprehend what the hell it is too?

I think it is not over reacting to label this as some actual Big Brother Shit arriving directly from Amazon next week!?

I change my guest passwords regularly, so they have to ask every time they come over. :militarypress:

The ship sailed on keeping this stuff locked down long ago.

Unless you guys already opted out with your cable / internet providers, you’ve likely already been sharing your wifi with others for quite a while. You know how Xfinity let’s you connect to any of their hotspots no matter where you are, at no charge? This is how. This isn’t new. Amazon just had the decency to make a real attempt at informing us. Go read your internet contract. It’s in there somewhere.

Don’t even get me started on what your smart tv is doing behind your back.

This is slightly off topic but I thought of it because the original link to the story was to Metro UK: I'm curious what the odds are of them trying this outside the US, given that the UK government has tried in the past to go after people who don't have cable subscriptions, trying to imply they must be stealing it.
