I would love to ride a sport bike again. I fear I'm too old (wise?) to ever own one again as they are built for masochists. 20 minutes = fun and exhilaration. 30+ minutes equals numb hands, sore wrists and aching hips. They are beautiful machines and they draw me in. Nothing like the sound of all that machinery rolling around at 13.5k rpm when your tucked behind the windscreen at *edited for legal purposes* mph screaming down some backroad.

Hence the ninja 1k. Upright position with the ability to tuck and around 142hp with the 1 liter. I figured it's the best of both worlds. Not quite true liter bike territory, but also doesn't hurt to ride.

    Edit to correct hp.

Gave it a shot this morning! The NW4MM are back ordered so I tried it with 3MM. Happy to report success.

I made a video, but it turned out to be 30 minutes long because I was talking and explaining... hard to fast forward through that.

These fit like a glove in the turn sockets (because the plastic base is made for that! :p)

Just took a peek at the new Ninja 1000. A good set of riser clip-ons might make that bike a decent open road tourer. Couple bags on the back, Tank bag.

Yes, did a bit more time on the AZPT! After visiting Oatman and doing that graded road to Bullhead City I started Mojave Road going West from Laughlin. Camped in the Castle Mountain National Monument, what a beautiful area.

I did see Secret pass on my GPS and marked it, but didn't make it there, maybe next time. Since it was pushing 95 degrees and I was solo, I didn't want to push myself or my luck in less populated areas.

I would like to do a lot of this area on my bike. Looks like you're having a blast! Maybe in the fall.

I've eyeballed that. I've been leary of the Brits offerings mainly due to the history of triumph and jaguar. It's like they don't understand wiring across the pond.

I personally think Triumph makes a quality bike that is superior to Japanese bikes now days. Sure you won't have gsxr or hayabusa speeds out of a Speedy, but quality of build that Triumph puts out now is exceptional. I'm also a fan boy so take my 100% biased input with a grain of salt. I've said it before, but my Street Tripler is a monster that likes to eat, and will run down any comparable naked upright - MT07, CB650, Z650. It's very nimble, the lighter 675 (compared to the 1050 or 1200RS Speedy) caters to canyon carving, and the front end is easy to pick up if a fella wants to. The only caveat with Triumph is that they are designed for shorter folk like myself (I'm 5'9"). If you're over 6'2" your gonna be crammed under the tank.

I figured they're better and have heard nothing but good. That over 6' 2" may not work though. This is me on my 650 the day I bought it.

My gf is tippiest of the tippy toes on it. We had to get her a honda shadow 600 and she can flat foot it decently. She's actually getting her license today.

She had 0 interest in riding until I got one and saw "the grand adventures of bmf" and decided she wanted to learn too.

2800 miles the scenic route from central pa to central tx. With 100lbs of backpack and a tent. 3 days after picking it up. It was 1600 miles there, 2800miles back.

    64834585_10157201046670275_5164118516063_4daa0047be3e7b3f2127d643d5a09512ee9d3d63.jpg

J/k. The struggle is real. But i had to have it, and i wanted to get home, and i needed to ride through the national forests along the blue ridge parkway. Would repeat, albeit with a smaller backpack and a hammock.

i like my bike so much i can find the faults of much greater machines, but in my eyes, the buell is incapable of any wrong. Its not so bad that im hurting after a 300 mile trip to houston, but being air cooled its worth it to go backroads, because it cooks the legs below 30mph. And since its dialed in for my weight, i took the passenger pegs off because i dont need the extra luggage.

Only qualm with Buell is that you have to hide the fact you still ride a Harley :crapstorm:

Bought this in 2012 when I still lived in NYC, rode it the long way to AZ so I could leave a bike at my buds house when I came to visit.

    Ready to roll.

I've since sold it but although boring, it was one of the most comfortable bikes I've owned.

I ended up replacing the GPz with a 2001 FZ-1, still have it but don't ride street too much anymore. Comfy and deceptively fast.

I bought this new in 1998, still have it. Best sounding bike I've ever owned.

Mine sounds like a fucking angry weedeater.

That fz-1, is that the predecessor to the mt line? And the vfr is a sports tourer?

The ninja 1k is labeled as a sports tourer, but it's just a bigger version of my 650. I'm still trying to figure this shit out.

Looks like a lot of fun adventures. VFR was awesome. Only bike I know of with a V-4 engine. And that single sided swingarm in the rear.... so Ducati.

Yeah, the FZ's were basically semi naked sport bikes with more comfy ergonomics and tuned more for the lower end and midrange vs the high strung racer replicas. FZ-1 was a more streetable R1 as was the FZ-6 to the R6. As the generations went on the naked bikes got sportier. First gen FZ-1's like mine are a lot of bike for the money. You should be able to find one at or under $3k and it's not only comfortable but quite capable in the twisties and plenty fast. I started out on the sportier stuff but my body isn't quite up to that any longer.

VFR is considered a sport tourer, yes. I bought the VFR when the ZX-7 got too uncomfortable back in the late 90's. There weren't as many choices back then for a comfy, yet sporty bike. Today there is no shortage of well built go fast bikes that are still comfortable.

Honda has a long history with V-4's. The first one's I remember were the V45 and V65 Sabre and the 750 Magna's in the early 80's. Not much to look at but they were quick for what they were. Then there's the mighty Yamaha V-Max. I once stood next to a turbo'd, supercharged, nitros'd Yamaha V-Max that was called "Mad Max". To this day I haven't heard anything as loud, mean, menacing, threatening, obnoxious and down right bad ass as that bike. He was/is the owner of a company by the same name that does insane V-Max mods. This was at a "Super Sunday" at Marcus Dairy in CT for those that remember such a thing.

Aprilia and Ducati of course have their own sweet sounding V-4's.

Here's a short clip on a similar sounding Mad Max Vmax.

I need to find some time to do more work on my truck. I've had a set of 12-hole injectors sitting for over a month. Also just picked up a 28mm front Sequoia swaybar this last weekend. Got a powertrax torsen LSD to install too, the OEM I just put in feels weak to me (needs a rebuild).
