Can we (the collective) stop with the "welcome from....." when someone posts a help post?

"Welcome from..." has its own forum.

Yeah it's nice to welcome and warming but I kinda feel like it's post count whoring. If you don't have input, don't reply. And adding a photo of the exact text you said is wasting bandwidth.

If a person needs help with their vehicle, I highly doubt they give a shit if you say hi or where you're from.

Maybe there's a reason for it, but from a person looking for help, I highly doubt it matters. Maybe its to weed out bots, but to the humans, it's annoying.

 

Civility in discourse makes this a warm friendly place and keeps us from becoming monsters.

I personally like the ones where someone asks a question and no one gives a shit and just jerks him off saying welcome. That'd drive me insane if I was a new person looking for help

 

That sounds like something a robot would say. Especially a robot with a screen name saying its not a robot, but also has minimal info on its profile.

 

Yeah, I wouldn’t walk into a neighborhood bar in a new town and yell out “hey! I need jumper cables”. I’d sit at the bar, order a beer and talk to the bartender or persons next to me. Then ask.

 

What about the people who's first post is a question, but not in the new member introduction section, can you still welcome them? This is definitely a conundrum I never saw coming.

 

My favorite is when they make a declaration or statement about any issue and never actually ask a question.

also, I’ve been trying to find the clip from Talladega Nights about “Jean Girard is sitting on the pole” but came up empty.

 

It happens, don't be discouraged. My Star Wars "I am not a committee" clip I posted a minute ago didn't really work, but I've moved on.

I do it and I’ll continue to welcome a first time question asker.

Why? Because generally if a first time poster comes in asking a question they are just searching the web to solve an issue and come across this site which they have found is full of extremely knowledgeable people. Then they get their answer and in many cases rarely contribute again. Unless they run into more issues.
That’s perfectly fine. But so is saying hello and welcome from CO!

 

Joke aside, I try to add some sort of help if I can, and rarely a welcome. Maybe that’s why so many never report back, or stick around. Or even bother say a quick thanks.
