Hi everyone, I'm on my 4th Tundra since '06, but brand new here! I'm looking to put new wheels/tires on my 2014 black SR (4.6) DC. I have a 3" leveling kit in the front and added a leaf in the rear, so probably 2 1/2" (?). I think I've decided on the 'Ballistic 953 Scythe', but can't make up my mind if I want 18 or 20's! (I'm also unsure if these will work and it's a lot of money for a 'guess'!). Has anyone tried these on a new Tundra? The offset is 12mm, backspace is 5.5". I'm trying to figure out if these will stick out too far and what size tire I can put on them without any further modifications? If I go with 18", would I have any problem with a 295/70/18?

    Welcome!
I think you can do either, but I would go with 18's. On the 295/70/18 you may have to do some additional training.

Training? I currently have the cheesy stock rims w/275/60/18's and they look small. I was really hoping for more feedback as I want to buy asap.

    Sorry, typo. Training = trimming.

You can always test fit them at Discount Tires if you have one nearby?

Check out this thread that may be of better help.

Thanks! Unfortunately, I still don't feel any closer to a decision than I was several hours ago!! LOL! I've decided on the wheels (Ballistic Scythe 953, 18"), now I just have to figure out tire size!!? I want the tallest, narrowest I can fit without any rubbing or modifications.

Good choice with 18. I have 295/70/18 and love how the tires fill up the wheel well.

OK! (the 'visual' helps a lot!!) How much of a difference is there between a 18mm offset and a 12 mm? (and PLEASE don't tell me 6mm! LOL!). What I'm asking is....if I put the same size tire on the 12mm wheels, would it make a huge difference, would they be out too far? I also have the pocket rivet style flares on mine. By the way.......very nice! I really like the way that looks !! Are those 'Raptor' running boards?(that's what I have on mine).

Chphilo great truck, I didn't see on your list of upgrades what you did for lift/leveling. Did you do a leveling kit?

I have 295/70/18 Nitto TG G2's on a suspension lift that measured at 3.5" ...I wanted to go a little wider, but it was rubbing against the frame...and I already have the CMC done, and flattened the pinch weld.

    Pix are in my build.

If you go with 295/70/18, you should be ok with either 18 mm or 12 mm. Now remember that 12 mm wheels closer to the body mount (by 6 mm, haha). So there is slightly increased chance of touching the body mount with 12 mm. Every truck is slightly different.

My running board is Toyota step boards. Had them as a part of the deal when I bought the truck.

Thanks. I have Old Man Emu lift with 614 coils and an Add-a-Leaf in the rear. 3 & 1/2 inches in the front and 1 & 3/8 in the rear. As you could see in the picture, it's just about dead level (actually 1/8 inches higher in the rear).

Alright, I think I've finally made a decision!!! (?) 18" Ballistic Scythe 953's with Cooper Discoverer AT3's 275/70/18. 33's should look good proportionally, without the extra width.....right? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

33's will work fine, but I would try for at least 34's...If it were me.

To give you an idea of how it would look like. Here is a picture of a truck with Truxx 3/1 with 275/70/18 Toyo MT, (I believe) on stock wheels. I know this is pre-14, but your truck should look about the same. Personally, I think the truck looks pretty good. Mine is 34.5 on 3 & 1/2 inch lift, but having gone through one winter, bigger tire has disadvantage of stuff easily freezing in the gap (not to mention rubbing esp when off roading). I had to clear out snow/ice quite frequently.

Ugghh, now I'm already thinking that maybe I should have gone bigger :-/ Too late now, they're on the way. The winter tires on it now are 30", so I thought a 33" would suffice. From everything I've seen, I would have had to go considerably wider to get a 34"? I'll post pictures when I get them mounted. (thanks for the help!).

    Where did you order from?

I tried 33's (Duras) they looked great, but too small so I traded up (DT tire satisfaction warranty) to 34's (34.41") for a little more cash (want to say it was $60-70) and am much happier.

Custom Wheel Outlet (I found them on e-bay). I haven't gotten them yet (shipped today), but they were really good to deal with.

Can u call their customer service? Surely, they'll want to make more money from the larger tires...u might take a re-stocking fee, but if you aren't happy with 33's you're going to regret not getting a larger tire if that's what u really want.

I put that size tire on my 18" Moto Metal rims and I also did a 3-2 spacer/ leaf spring leveling kit. I had to take the inner well cover that goes over the fog lights and I also had to take off that little front mud flap.

    2015 Tundra TSS SR5 4x4.

3" Strut spacer in the front, 1" block in the rear.
    Stock TSS wheels.
Spidertrax 1.25" bolt on wheel spacers.
295/65/20 Nitto Trail Grappler (35" tire).

To use this size tire I had to of course modify the skid plate. Along with that I had to remove the front lower fender liner from the bumper. Not just the little flap, the entire liner that covers the back of the bumper. I was still having issues with rubbing the sway bar at full lock. To remedy this i purchased and installed 1.25" Spidertrax bolt on wheel spacers. At that point I had to remove the mudflap from behind the front tire but now there are no rubs, issues or any complaints from me.
