Just don't wash it.

 

I dont wash the titan, and now it has a patch of corn fungus growing around the fuel door.


i just wash the wheels, tires, and glass. Sometimes. Gotta love silver.

 

Just fyi, water-spotting occurs because the surface being worked with isn't protected from the water. Try using a car wash soap/shampoo specifically formulated for painted surfaces instead of Dawn, etc., which are strippers, followed by your wax of choice and maybe an occasional detailing spray between washes to keep a barrier between the painted surfaces and the water. Once a painted surface has a good coating water-spotting should become a non-issue. Dawn, etc., should really only be used if you want to strip a painted surface of waxes and/or greasy/oily build-up.

 

Or, this is an alternative to water-spotting problems.

i had a jug of wash and wax (zipwax) start to split, so i put it in a clear OJ jug. The soap and wax seperates, and you’ve gotta shake it up.
Before that, i didnt know.

I’ve noticed this phenomena over the past few years. The Big One that really is forgotten is Pearl Harbor Day. This Day today is to Remember and Honor our Fallen Soldiers. A moment of Silence in their name...

 

So the plans for the new 02. Fix the rockers and Bedline the lower half of the cab. Swap the frame. Install 5100s with my tundras old springs, the new frame already has TC upper arms and deaver rear springs. 4xinovations sliders and costal bumper.


It will also get my tundras front brakes when I do the swap to 14wa. Should be a badass little rig for less than 4K invested (and that’s figuring the armor)

 

It actually bothers me how many people think this is just a free day off work. It very much is not, it’s a day to remember those who fought and gave their life to allow these idiots to enjoy their freedoms.

 

Water spotting occurs because of what's in the water. Some water sources have minerals in them that are left behind when the water dries on a surface. Treating the surface with a water repellent coating (wax or ceramic coating) will decrease the number of water drops left on the surface, but may not prevent water spotting. "Softening" "hard water" takes the minerals and impurities out so that it just water, which won't leave any spots behind when dry. A combo of both would be the best approach, or what I do is @Tundra2 's method of semi-annual washes (hose downs) which prevent water from ever coming in contact with the painted surface, which is visible in the sunlight only beneath the layer(s) of dust and whatnot. I do not recommend this method.

 

Agree and agree, but what better way to show our appreciation than to enjoy those freedoms that they sacrificed so much to give us.

 

Yes, technically you are correct re: why the water-spotting occurs. And, yes, soft water would solve the problem but absent that possibility a proper barrier solves the problem. I haven't had to wash my Harley's in over a year and rarely need to wash my cars. On the occasions I do need to I don't use dish soaps unless I want to strip the surfaces;they defeat the purpose.

 

I don’t know where I read this recently; but on Memorial Day your supposed to fly the flag half mast until noon, and then after noon raise it fully for the remainder.

 

We have very hard water. If water is left on after a wash water-spotting happens regardless of sealant. I only use dish soap if I am stripping the wax.

 

The corolla will probably get one good wash here soon. It looks like it sat for a while, and that "algae-y" stuff that grows on cars started to grow?

You know that stuff that you always see worm tracks in? Like this?


Just not this bad. Just like it started to grow in the places that didn't have good airflow, and then it quit growing? Anyways, the body could use some TLC to be cleaned up as the automatic car washes won't get that out.


I'm not making any damn sense.

Probably was sitting, stuff started growing, car lot got it & ran it through car was 2 or 3 times until "good enough".
I see @Tundra2 getting hooked in the detailing threads next.

 

Man I bitch about my Tundra from time to time but I just spent 4 hours replacing the rear brakes on my Dad's 2010 Wrangler.

First the lug nuts are all swollen on the passenger side so we had to hammer the socket on there. Broke 1 socket and ended up with 2 with the cap falling off so different sized sockets needed to be used.
Some genius decided to use thread locker on the caliper/mount bolts so that took awhile. The adjusters for the drum in hat parking brake are a pain to get to so that took about 30 minutes to get each rotor off.

Then the fun part one caliper bracket the slide is seized into. Used a torch and oil to try and get it out, nope snaps off. Order new everything at the closest parts store, get there nope they don't have the bracket but the next store 30 minutes away has it. Drive there, "oh well if you buy the caliper it comes with the bracket and slides and it's cheaper than buying separate"...

Hour and 15 later we're back at it and get it all together.

Hi, Guys, stuck again; can any one of your direct me forward:


Instructions say to remove this “switch base”... but I cannot easily disconnect the two harnesses or the wiring for the Toyota anti-theft whatsit— when I test wiggle everything, it does seem like the dash won’t be pulled forward without me disconnecting these. I tried repositioning that little panel of the anti-theft display to see if I could insert it backward through the panel, but no. Any help?

Also, this go-by I found indicates I’ll have to
‘remove no. 2 heater to register duct’ and
‘remove steering column’ but I’m certain I saw one of you posted your dash completely out with the steering column intact....

I finally found a full manual online... for a 2003... but no way to search I skimmed through the almost 3000 pages and found most of how to dismantle the dash... but sometimes it directs me to another chapter... and it’s not arranged by page number <sigh> but by subject chapters. SMH I can’t believe I haven’t lost my
st yet, but I keep working at it.

I’ve decided to order and pay for an F’in manual in old fashioned paper book format, but I don’t want to wait for it so I kept going. Can any of you move me forward? The other side of the dash is out except the airbag... I want to know I can get through everything, before I mess that up with that.

 

Clips are tight. Need to work the Mojo. Maybe use a screwdriver for leverage, but take care to not break anything. Lever and wiggle and repeat until you feel it disconnect.

 

Thank you, PHM. On this diagram, #3 is what I can’t figure out how to dismantle. I’ve been getting better at tracking various fasteners, but this isn’t familiar. Any guidance on what gets pushed to disco?

Am I supposed to mojo apart the brown and purple wires connect to-? Is that inserted into a plastic conduit housing-? Have you done this, so I know that’s how it is?

 

Squeeze (or pull apart) the two clips and it should fall/pull out. I don’t have this Sensor on mine but the others are similar.

To restate my goal: I want to remove this, a combo metal and plastic surround that held the slide out cup holders. The paneling around it looks like it will accommodate the ham base.
With all that I’ve removed, I can see a screw that inserts from the back side... it appears this is what secures this surround. The reason I think I have to remove the entire dash is to get this surround out and... probably, I’ll not be able to properly secure the heavy ham base unit without doing it from behind the dash. But posting up again in case any one has ideas to share on how your try.
The way I’ve marked it is consistent with what it feels like is back there, a bracket with a hole the screw fits through that attaches it to the cross member.
