Very interested in a folding tonneau, particularly the VP. can you drive around with them semi open? there doesn't appear to be a way to latch them down, or to keep them from flipping closed while on the road. I see you can prop them all the way open, but then you lose visibility out the back window. videos don't seem to answer this question.

 

okay, maybe i'm just seeing what i want to see, but i think they do what i'm asking. if they do, count me in for a G2 or a VP (haven't decided yet).

 

You can. There are small D rings at the end of each panel underneath and a pair on top up front. If I drive with it folded once or twice I use 2 bungees connected to the D rings to secure it down. Otherwise the wind could catch it and it will slam shut.

If you are trying to decide between the G2 and the MX4, let me help give you some insight. I owned the G2 on my Tacoma. The G2 has a shinier finish. You have to ensure to close your tailgate first then close the cover. So, if you open your tailgate, you will have to lift the cover, then close your tailgate, then close the cover. It is not a huge deal to be honest. I would forget and get upset that I might have damaged my cover somehow. When I called about getting a cover for my Tundra and the salesman mentioned the finish is a matte black versus a shiny finish and I could open and close my tailgate without opening the cover, I was sold. I have nothing but positive reviews to say about the G2, but now I do prefer the MX4.

 

You need to lift the cover before closing the tailgate with the VP as well. Took a little getting used to but now it's second nature.
