It works okay, but not ideal. I replaced the gas struts with some that I found at Autozone that were really strong. This let the rear window stay up when I was driving, but it bounced quite a bit and I was worried about the fatigue on the the brackets. Now that I have the correct, softer gas struts I usually bungee cord the window down, and it rests on the handlebars.
Loading is another thing. To put the bikes in when the tailgate is up you have to put the bike in sideways and then rotate down which is a pain. I drop the tailgate, place the downtube in the little padded channel of the pad and lift the tailgate and bike up as one. This is totally do-able, but with two or more bikes it's pretty heavy.
I'm not willing to remove the shell yet as it's really nice to have the covered storage, but everything with bikes was way easier when the bed was open.

Thanks for the honest feedback. Yah, it seems there’s no perfect solution with a cap and bikes inside. Probably will go hitch rack since I too want the secure storage. Cheers!

Did some maintenance and installed new SRAM Code RSCs. The Guides I had completely seized up on a ride. Wanted to go with XTRs but couldn’t get any until September. Timeframe was the same for warranty repair on the Guides. Found one LBS with the Codes and decided it was the best option.

I went for a quick 7 mile singletrack ride on my klunker yesterday after work. A buddy just bought a State klunker and I have my old '64 Schwinn.

Super cool bike. Looks like a good time! It's nice to see people having fun on a single speed klunker, revived from 1964. Makes one really question - do I really need a full squish mtb bike with all the bling?

These remind me of the cruisers we used to ride in Austin back in the 80s. Cook Brothers, SE Racing OM Flyer, etc.

Installed OneUp carbon bars. Not really worth a picture but downtime can be be an expensive hobby (luxury). @joe_from_iowa i dig the Klunker, looks like a good time.

Brought the wife and the eMTBs today to Diamond Valley Lake in So Cal. Easy loop trail with mostly gravel/rock, but a good 22 mile which can be a little exhausting from all the bumpiness without the pedal assist.

Got this a few weeks ago, most fucking fun I've had on two wheels. Had an Ibis Ripmo on order, so glad I canceled and got an EMTB, can send it just as hard but can do triple the amount of runs in a day. There is a reason pro riders train on EMTBs, more laps is more fun and you get better at riding faster.

Dam these bikes are so tempting...if they weren't the price of a dirt bike I would have one already.

Was looking at a $7500 Specialized E bike the other day at the shop. They also had a $13,000 road bike, I was in shock cuz that is more than my 900cc motorcycle

    What Trek model is that?

I recently got back into the gig myself for my “Operation Anti Dad Bod”…picked up a hardtail last year…

Then picked up a full squish last Friday…

Regardless of which ever bike I ride for the day, I still leave the trail with a smile!

Woohoo! After getting my bike stolen last summer I finally have a replacement. It only took 11 months.

Some really nice bikes on here.

My son is currently having a Santa Cruz 5010 built up for him. Was a B**** trying to find the correct 2021 frame size, even trying to get it sized as no one has them is stock.

He is a freshman in HS and I taught him how to detail the interior of cars. He is working his butt off doing cars at least 6 days a week as he will not get to ride the bike unless he hands me cash. Bike should be done in 10 days or so and he is on target to have all the $$ by mid July. Am really proud he has found a way to get clients and is making his $$. He earns every penny of it as it has been hot and we do not have an insulated garage.

good on you. Teaching them to earn it rather the hand it to them is a lesson they will never forget. My dad did the same.

I'm liking all the 1X setups, I wouldn't mind converting my bike to one. Do you need a special rear hub to accommodate these setups?

No, but you might need a different chain ring up front ... ie narrow-wide as you will no longer have a front derailleur to "keep" the chain from coming off the rings.
