Well, if you are at that level then your total comp should already be equivalent to getting OT.

My wife says I’m the VP of motor pool. Think she’s patronizing me…

I’m a little on the other side of that now…burned myself out with too many 60+ hour weeks. But was offered a comparable comp package to the hours I was working and told I needed to figure out how to enable others to take on the work load so that I could return to “normal” (45-50, because I’m wired such that I can’t give less than that). It’s taken me a little over two years to make those pieces fall into place and build a team that will help me do that.

in the process I’ve started to put a lot more focus on my family and personal balance, and on marking a date in the calendar for retirement (I’m 44).

i guess my point is that instead of me continuing to work myself to death earning a bigger paycheck, it’s made me step back and focus on enabling others to start filling my shoes with me supporting them (building the talent to replace me) while I reduce my hours to better represent my worth (while still taking home what I was making before) and maintain a life outside of my job.

    Can't like that post.
I'm not a big union guy but I'm more than happy to pay my dues for what I receive in return.

Yeah…explained more in my follow-up post.
I was dead set against it. I’m also not Union and have always been a “company man” (23 years at the same place), even though we are a Union contractor (I’m staff). But I’m treated very well, and certainly make a better living than a lot of people, so I can’t complain. When I made the switch, it was with coaching and guidance from someone that had done a similar transition a few years ahead of me (now my boss). It just required me to think a little bit differently…

I'm union, but don’t identify as “union”. It comes with good and bad, so it is about balance and priorities…which are different for all of us.

Yeah, I get it. Sounds like you made the right choice for work and home life.

I was non-union the first 13-14 years of my career. It was a great company with good people but shit insurance, lower end pay for my trade and zero retirement.
Now I've got really good Ins, top pay, 275 hrs annual leave, state retirement and matching 401. Couldn't be happier

Oh, and the best part is I don't have to hit up my cheap ass boss and almost beg for a raise.

Honestly not trying to brag if it comes off that way, I'm just really happy with where I'm at in my career.

I accepted a contract position that's overtime exempt so, if I work any (which has been pretty rare so far), it's supposed to be paid out at straight time. However, when I worked a few hours of overtime last month, it was paid out at time and a half so I pointed that out to my boss. When he pointed that out to the lady at the contract company who handles my pay, she condescendingly explained to us that you get overtime pay if you work more than 40 hours a week.

Forgot to take a picture but today was the first time the short box didn't cut it for me. Picked up two garden boxes for my wife that are just over 6 feet long and about a foot wide. Had to bungee them in and drive home with the tailgate down.
