What camping setup do you have?

Camper shell on our tundras for me is the best set up. It keeps the meth heads, cholos, child molesters, thugs, rapists from easily attacking me while i sleep in the woods.

 

More likely to happen if you're camping in downtown Seattle, but I get it.

 

Yeah this is what I'm leaning towards. Also the stealth aspect of it. Doesn't scream someone is sleeping there like a deployed RTT does which will save some coin at times.

 

Its the recent new camping trend called "overlanding" , the past few years "overlanding" has blown up in popularity, everyone is decking out there trucks with RTT's and all the gear . I see alot of youtube hipsters feeding the popularity . Don't get me wrong its cool but usually its not exactly practical and not cheap to get a decent setup . This is why I've towed a camper for years .

 

My family and I like to camp in one spot for a week at a time and go out from there on day hikes. So a tent or trailer makes a lot more sense for us than an RTT (or even a motorhome or truck camper).

 

Nice! That sounds like a lot of fun. My camping consists of driving into an area, sleeping, then driving to and from baseball games or some other event. Rinse and repeat daily until driving home. The only time I basecamp is if I trailer the motorcycle and this set up works well for that also. Still wish it was more stealth for easier boondocking on long trips.

 

Carry both a ground tent and RTT on primarily BLM camping. The site usually dictates what we use.

 

I had a "pink" Trasharoo as well, the sun absolutely ate it's lunch!

 

LOL. Hating it for a while but I’ve managed to convince myself its red and not pink. .

 

At first I was like what the hell and it finally disintegrated... The replacement only comes out when it's being used anymore, much better mileage.

 

30’ TT so about 35’ total length but I’m not sure of the tongue weight. I know it’s close to 9k lbs loaded up. Tundra pulls it great but I’m not gunna say you don’t notice it back there lol

My biggest issue is getting it into the backyard from the alley. I can solve that using a trax dolly but they aren't cheap either.

 

Roughing it for the next few days in an established campground with full hookups

 

Having a Thousand Trail's membership saves us so much in camping fees! Makes traveling easy as we can go campground to campground without paying a dime!

 

Added a Taxa Outdoors Tiger Moth trailer to the setup this weekend. Pretty excited to take it out soon.

Has a rear door as well and the side door that opens upwards. Cafe table with a couch that stows and then turns into a full bed. Back has a slide out galley kitchen. Total of 4 windows that open with a screen and shade on each.

 

I have a Trax for my boat and camper...it's wonderful. Used it a few hours ago

 

Can you share with me everything you bought? I sent them an email asking about batteries and chargers, etc and haven't heard back. Would love to order this ASAP but need to know what i should order

 

2017 Keystone Outback Ultra-Lite 250urs. Weights about 5500 when I have it fully loaded.

 

I bought the dolly..the 150 dollar onboard charger. I found 3 batteries on Amazon for a little cheaper than 300. I did buy the quick connect adapter they sell also. The trailer ball came with it. Any trailer ball will work. The thread is universal.

I went with the Ikamper and have loved every second of it.

 

I'm struggling to understand the attractiveness of the truck mounted tents. It seems to me that compared to a normal tent:
More expensive; colder; less accessible by having to climb a ladder; can't use your truck when the tent is pitched; probably heavier; probably takes longer to pitch (?)...
I agree they look cool, but what are the advantages?

I can see that in hot weather, it would be cooler and probably get a bit more of a breeze. I guess it would also be away from creepy crawlers. But in cold weather, you will freeze.
