Great points on the limited. My wife definitely isn’t into cars and she had no idea her Yukon...SMH. I don’t envision her being in a scenario where she would need 4WD and I’m not with her/driving. Lucky for us we don’t face harsh driving conditions very often in AZ.

The only thing that has prevented me from getting the limited is the looks of the front end. If it looked like all the other trims it would have been a done deal. I think that can be changed out but I really have no idea how hard it is, the cost associated and also the unintended consequences to other systems like the TSS/KDDS, etc

Totally agree on the looks of the Limited. Truth be told, that's why we went with the Trail Premium. I told myself I could swap out the seats and/or get aftermarket ventilation, but I've just been too lazy and cheap to do it! lol

Seems like you’re pretty far down the decision tree on this and everyone is different...buttttt my wife also had the T4R itch 6 months ago, but after driving the trim levels and pricing everything out she got a new Highlander hybrid awd xle. Certainly not capable for any off-road use other than gravel driveways but on the road it rides like butter, gets 36-37 mpg real world (!!!), and has all the amazing gadgets new cars should have. It doesn’t have the sexy vibe that the T4R has but if you had to drive blindfolded I don’t know many folks that would choose the T4R for mall crawlin’.

For what she uses it for (daycare and target runs) and as a family vehicle (long trips up and down the east coast) it’s a great vehicle. Plus I’m hedging against $5 gas which can’t be too far away lol.

Those options come with the TRD Off Road, along with multi terrain select, and optional KDSS which the pro doesn’t have but all of those features come on the off road, not the SR5.

I would have loved to keep my 2019 SR5P 4Runner and have a Tundra but just couldn't swing the cost. For me it boiled down to space and comfort and what ultimately made me happier.

One thing that bothered me was after being rear-ended by someone not paying attention, I realized how easy it would be to ruin the lift gate on the 4Runner. The impact mine took didn't cause so much as a paint chip, but it was now in my mind, whereas not so much in the Tundra.

Have driven both in snow and can say both perform very well. I do like the weight of the Tundra which feels a bit more stable.

Super jealous of all that can have both, I see them as timeless classics and sure they both will hold value nicely !

4 Runner for my wife and Tundra for me. Since both are the last year without TSS I plan to run them for a long time.

    My thinking (having owned several):

    • If money is the most important factor, buy the SR5.
    • If money is no factor at all, buy the TRD Pro [better suspension and it's got the 'cool' factor or whatever].
    • The Limited is my choice for a more refined (city) look.
    • The Off-road Trail Edition [or whatever they are calling it now] is super-duper, if you will ever be covering rough ground or traveling bad country roads or construction sites, etcetera. [My wife likes the 'do-nothing' hood scoop on it; it's our 'work' car.]
My wife is picking up a '21 Pro tomorrow: we're joining the LR club.

I have an 18 sr5 premium 4x4 with 3 rows, love the truck inside and out. Took it over the Rockies and back with 600# in a cargo hitch carrier often above 85 and it did great. Sitting with just under 20k on the odometer now and it has only a few mods, ko2's, front receiver, rear frame mounted receiver, and an auxiliary tranny cooler. Great truck, highly recommend!

My thoughts too, and another advantage of the SR5P. Also the pleather was soft, easy clean and heat up nice in the cold.

FWIW there was plenty to change hoods with ...most want thy scoop.

I don't care enough to change hoods and she doesn't care enough to bug me about it.

I was pretty limited on selection. I didn't realize until mid December 2019 that the 2019 did not have TSS. I found this one the next day within 50 miles of my house and bought it. Dumb lucked into what we have. I like the locking diff and manual transfer case, that my wife will never use. Had I been looking earlier in the year I probably special ordered with leather but not much else different.

There is a difference with the second row seats. My daughters 2011 came with 3rd row seats and I promptly removed them to have the extra 6" of storage and less weight. When I sold the seats to a 4Runner couple with 5 kids I noticed their 2nd row seats had a reclining feature. So nice!! 4Runners with 3rd row seating do not have reclining 2nd row seats.

Get a sunroof!! If makes open window driving that much better with the back window down.

FYI, I paid $14k for my daughters 2011 SR5 4x4 last year with 120k miles. The same vehicle might cost $17k today....

@T-Rex266 i found a used pedal commander from someone on this forum that I think I’m going to pick up. Looks like it works for both the Tundra & 4R. Is it as simple as unplugging from one vehicle and then following the install directions on the new vehicle? Also, on the Pedal Commander website they say their product does not leave a digital signature on the ECU and the dealership wouldn’t be able to tell one had been installed. Do you know if this is true? I didn’t see the same claim made by iDrive but they did discuss their liability coverage should something go wrong. Not sure if this was even a feature you considered. BTW, both seem like great options

It should be that simple as there is no registering it upon install.
iDrive claims the same- that it’s undetectable when not plugged in. The PC is very similar to iDrive minus the display layout and size. PC is a little bigger IIRC

Hey @blanchard7684….we are getting a 2021 Nautical Blue Venture Special Edition. It’s the exact color my wife wanted and I feel good about not spending the extra money for a PRO :D. Still trying to figure out tires/lift/roof rack ;). We should be picking it up within the next week!

That’s what we thought too especially since we could do most upgrades on our own for less than a pro. The problem now is finding stuff that is available :D

Got the call on Friday that the vehicle arrived early. Drove up to Flagstaff early the next morning to pick it up. Took the long way home and went thru Oak Creek Canyon & Sedona before getting back around lunch time. Here’s how things looks day 1…

This morning I washed it, removed the Yakima basket and installed the Pedal Commander. Next up: tires, lift, sliders and roof rack :D

We have a 2020 SR5 in Barcelona. We are going to do the same lift that @T-Rex266 did in his. What's nice with his is that the tires are pretty much the stock size just a tad wider.

4runners are great vehicles. I’ve had every generation of them. The used prices right now are crazy but you can still get new ones at msrp if you hunt around a bit. I had sr5s but prefer the Off roads. I actually just sold my 16 trails because I got a whole lot more for it than I paid. This fever will break and the covid whiplash will ease in a year or so then I’m buying another 20 or newer. Until then, just enjoying money in the bank and my Tundra.
