So what would be the point of more exploration, then? Look how far we've come in 100 years. You don't think we'll develop something better in the next 200 years?

Should clarify, nuke is the answer for the amount of power needed. None of the other sources can deliver what nuke can.

Not sure more exploration is necessary. That's actually why I made the point regarding the Bakken oil reserve. Again, I'm only pointing out what they are calling for on an international level. No need to overthink what is being said any further. :deadhorse:

I'm certain we are already sitting on multiple technologies that are better so no need to look too far off into the future. I love the idea of clean energy (Wind, Solar, Hydro...) & completely support them. I don't like the idea of being told/sold regarding which is better. As a sales person myself I do not attempt to down sale my competitors product. My job is to speak to the strengths of my product while holding a strong knowledge of both the strengths and weaknesses of my competitor & not being afraid of pointing ether if necessary.

Nuclear power is still one of the safest and most reliable means of power production, the fact that no research was conducted for 30 years is another debate entirely.
Currently one of the most promissing nuclear techs is modular/small scale-self contained reactors (SMR), cheaper by design, can be deployed pretty quickly (vs conventional) and even safer.

While the numbers may not be the same for every single one of these charts, they all agree that nuclear is top 3 safest.

Here is the key thing to keep in mind….INFRASTRUCTURE!!! Yeah, a carbon free vehicle with gobs of power and torque sounds like the greatest thing in the world, but without the ability to support it on a regular basis defeats the whole purpose. While there are charging stations being put up everyday….they are still far few and in between. The day I buy into an EV is the day they can successfully drive an EV coast to coast with rapid charging stations available on the highways.

I'm always curious if the guys who will only buy an EV if they can drive it coast to coast are currently driving their ICE vehicles that far. Or is it just a matter of principle?

I think electric could be a great application for what we currently use my wife's Corolla for as it's mostly for short trips in the city. Generally, if we're going on long highway trips, we're probably going camping so we tend to have the truck loaded with gear.

I think it's principle and/or future necessity, tree huggers probably say it's a must.
Got a Yaris too, which my girl drives and both use for moving around the town, so the truck brings me to work, but most definitely would rock a tiny EV as my daily no problem.

While I don't exactly drive coast to coast I drive from Kansas City to Connecticut to visit family at least once a year which is basically the center of the country to the eastern part of the country. Wife has three weeks off work during the Holiday season so we just drive to have a vehicle when we get there and for the most part its been cheaper than flying. That and I also like driving so for me I would benefit from a Rapid charging EV that would be close to the amount of time it would take to fill up a gas tank. KC to CT is a 18-20 hour drive.

There are sooo many variables NOT taken into consideration here it's almost a joke.
Looking at this "chart", I already have a solution and plans for free energy production with no waste and it's not even listed.

Most people think that EVs just got invented a few years ago, but reality, the concept has been over a century.

it took a long time to get to where it is now. I’m still waiting for hovering cars though.

That's my beef, why not come out with trucks that have diesel / electric power plants just like trains.
    Very cost effective and powerful.

Well, just down the road about five miles is our airport; small but pretty cool.
There's a small firm there that has been flying larger drones around the airport area that are capable of seating 4 people.
They've been testing for more than a year with some success.
When the powers that be figure out the "flying lanes" for these things, car travel will come to a halt pretty quick like.
Imagine pulling your Iphone out, calling a drone taxi to your place or if you own one just hop in and key in the location you wish to go to.
That's it and away you go.
Leave roads to trucks for shipping stuff around.
They sky is your road and no need for a diamond lane.

There are actually development on mini nuclear reactors for small applications. Not sure if they will ever figure out how to make it completely safe. Imagine 50 years power source in an automobile.

Yeah, I think I’ve watch something on that.

imagine traffic would be a lot less congested since it can utilize the third dimension (z).

hovering will probably need some advanced antigravity tech for it to be feasible though.

Yeah, but Lithium car batteries will be next big thing. More expensive than cats already.....perps prolly already planning on a quick way to steal them too. The whole car, same as perps do now with ICE cars.......especially when the inevitable Lithium shortage happens, and it will happen.....there's a reason for "rare" earth metal/mineral shortages which I will not mention here. The more things change the more they remain the same.....karma

While this is true, how many will have multiple cars for “rare” cases of driving coast to coast and a “daily” driver? The whole sales pitch of an EV is to replace your “toxic” ICE vehicle. That’s great….but what if I have kids and take them across country on the weekends (i.e., AZ to CA, or AZ to CO, etc…) and only have funds for one car? What about emergencies? This is why I say when they figure out the infrastructure hurdle with EV’s, then EV’s will be choice. I agree, city driving and taxi’s…EV’s all the way. Outside of that, the recharging situation needs figuring out.
