Let’s see pics stock height Pro with 295/70r18

Nice! I have the same truck, but have the stock off-road wheels. Do you think you could still fit the 295/70’s with 5100’s at the middle setting? No wheel spacers right? I see you removed the small front flap. Did you have to trim/remove anything else? How close are you to the UCA/sway bar? Thanks!

 

You can fit 295/70 on middle setting with no issues other than removing front splats and trimming skid plate. I do not have wheel spacers, that is correct. I will say that I am about a quarter inch away from the UCA. I do not off road so I don’t have an issue with the UCA clearance.

Definitely a snug fit but it does fit under the bed. Recently swapped the stock spare for another cooper. Wasn’t bad getting it under there either. Just had to make sure it was lined up and centered well.

A little off topic, but could any of you gentlemen do a quick measurement for me? I'm looking for a baseline of what my height was with just the 295s on. I've since added a ton of weight and looking at suspension tweaks. Looking for height from center of stock BBS wheel cap to bottom of fenders on both the front and rear. Any help would be great.

 

These are the numbers I took at the rear before I installed the Coachbuilder +2's. I've got the TCUSA Tonneau cover on the truck, but nothing else.

For those of you running the 295/70R18 Falken Wildpeaks (I know of @RainMan_PNW, @TelemarkTumalo, @Pitbull410 and @Minarets at least), can you try to give me an idea of how harsh the "E-Load" ride really is?

Here's why I'm asking - I have a 2020 Pro that I just put on 275/70R18 Standard Load General Grabber ATX. These are a brand new tire and one of a very few in that size that's not E load. I drive mostly interstate, tow minimally, light off-road occasionally but I live in Nebraska so the 3-peak snowflake was important to me with our winters and a non-E load seems perfect for me. However, I've had Discount Tire balance these twice and am going back for a third time this weekend (less than 1,000 miles so far) because I'm getting steering wheel shimmy at 70mph+. So, I'm preparing for them to tell me they can't get them to balance and I need to move on to another option. Under 70, the ride is nice, a definite improvement over the stock Michelin's and no increase in harshness or extra road feedback.

What really holds me back from the 295/70 Wildpeaks is the E-load and the ride consequences, so I'd love to hear your opinions on that. Thanks.

 

I've been running them for so long (11k miles) compared to the stock tires (just barely 1k miles) that I honestly don't remember what the stock tires rode like on this truck. I also ran 10-ply E tires on my 2008 TRD OR for over 200k of the 297k miles it had on it (two sets of Duratracs, two sets of KO2s) and I do know that the overall ride of the TRD Pro with the Falkens is a vast improvement over the TRD OR with any of the tires I had on it (including a set of factory Michelins I got as take-offs with the 2015 TRD OR rims for a steal).

It is all subjective, of course. There are a few spots on the freeway along my commute that have some settled pavement chunks that I use as my "test spots" anytime I make a change to suspension or tires to compare how the truck reacts, and it seems like it was perhaps a little more harsh than when I had the Michelins, but not enough for me to notice. I've also added the Coachbuilder rear shackles (to gain some rake), and the bushings that go with those shackles also smooth out the rear end a little bit too. And what PSI you run in them can make a difference too...I'm running around 37PSI cold (ambient air around 55-60), which will get up close to 40PSI when warmed up.

 

Another Wildpeaks 295/70/18s sporting the Toytec 2.0 Aluma Series lift... Loving it.

 

I too, didn't see much difference in the ride or handling when going the 295/70 Wildpeaks. If there is a difference, it is negligible. I'm running 40 psi. Performance in rain and snow excellent as well.

Made the switch from the 275/70 General Grabbers to the 295/70 Falken Wildpeaks. So far so good.

 

Dang that looks awesome. What all did you have to do/remove to make these fit? Any wheel spacers? How close to the UCA? Assuming stock PRO suspension?

 

Thanks. Pro suspension with rear Toytec shackles on the low setting (1" of lift - I did this months ago just to get some more rake back when the bed was loaded). I pulled the small front mudflap off before I went to have them installed, so not sure if it would have rubbed and I can get a finger in between the UCA. I haven't had any rubbing yet, but I also just put them on yesterday, so we'll see.

That looks great! The one inch shackles make it look about perfect IMO. I went with Falken 275’s but I should have gone with the 295’s. I was just afraid they were going to really kill my mpgs. I only lost about 1mpg from stock going to the 275’s.

 

Thanks. I was initially worried about MPG's as well, but after the SL Generals didn't work, I said the hell with it and went all-in.

 

I've read that these tires are either 0.25" or 0.50" from the UCA. What is the issue with it being so close? Is it debris and snow or that it could rub under certain angles of driving?

I think it is a theoretical problem more than real world. Those with more off road experience than I will hopefully chime in here. I can imagine getting our trucks into rock crawling situations where it could create an issue.

On the other hand, it seems like those who do serious off roading, usually modify suspension and go for wide offset wheels to get wider stance.

 

I had the bilstin 5100 on mid settings with Bora 1.25 spacers with stock uca's...very minor rub with cooper st maxx added coachbuilder bumper shim. Plus 2 shackle in back.... Recently went 2.5 toytec with shims in front with +3 shackle in back with add a leaf....weight of aftermarket bumper in front. If I had to do it over again would have gone 3 inch lift to begin with and would have picked a 295 that was better for road noise. These have held up well otherwise ...Had to do aftermarket UCA....Dave at Coachbuilder powdercoated them for me.

Do you think 305 or 35" tires would fit without any mods? I got the 2021 TRD PRO, I was planning to get the 295s but your pics looks like there is enough space to get a bigger size?
