What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Looks great! I figure after a while in the Arizona climate with less-than-idea TLC I'm going to need a paint job sometime in the next 300K miles, and kinda like the idea of the bedliner route. Seems like it would handle desert pinstriping no sweat.

But I'm curious – and this could be a dumb question – how heavy is it? Does it add a lot of weight to the vehicle?

I also wonder if the micro-drag around the particles could function like the dimples on golf balls and improve handling and mpg.

 

Vacuumed and Feather Dusted the interior today. AeroSpace’d interior trim and Washed the inside windows. Been a while since the interior was done and she wasn’t too bad. This week will tackle the exterior Warsh and Wax.

No sexy pics, but you can envision.

 

@NomadicFrog, thanks man, should take any pin stripping with ease. Not to mention touch ups will be pretty easy. My paint was trashed and cost was a deciding factor to go this route. I’d imagine it adds some weight to the truck but I’d guess it’s impact is negligible

 

I made the same mistake and it was a bitch to fix. That coupler only slides on the shaft one way, you've got to turn it to line up the splines like it was before. Not sure how else to explain it.

 

The coupler would be the section at the floor board that connects the lower shaft coming from the rack and the steering column?

 

No it's the part you drew the arrow to and wrote "only way." You've got to slide that up and then use it to turn the shaft until your marks line back up. You're correct that it only slides on one way. Took me a while of fighting that to realize the same thing. But now you've got to slide it on and turn the shaft. Sometimes you'll find it won't turn and I never could figure out why that is. Almost seemed random.

 

Ok thanks, I’ll play around and see if I can make it work but turning that portion would turn my steering wheel, wouldn't it? I would be lined up on the coupler if my steering wheel wasn’t slightly turned to the right. I turned that section to get my steering wheel to line up with wheels.

I think I may have installed the steering column incorrectly. Need to figure out where true center is. One side has about half a rotation more than the other, I’m wondering if I didn’t install with the half turn towards wrong side.

 

Got all the parts for the front end suspension that hasn’t been touched.
MOOG upper/lower control arms
OEM upper/lower ball joints
SPC camber kits
I was only able to tackle passenger side upper arm and upper ball joint cause the press I got wasn’t the easiest to use and I could have used another adapter but didn’t have anything. I’ll do the other side and then the lowers next week after we are done camping. Don’t wanna get stuck in the middle of the job or waiting for a part cause I need my truck to pull a TT.

Removed small red wasp nest from top passenger door hinge a few minutes ago.

Partial moon. Partial over cast. Can see for about a mile and a half in the clearings with the naked eye. Forest is mucho darker. I noticed while out there that the backwoods was eerily quiet, but front woods was abuzz with crickets, lightning bugs, and few other night noises. Usually the sound is reversed. Strange.

 

My short term plans are changing and I'm seeing a need to setup my truck for some camping. Maybe even looking at needing it done soon. I think I need a dual battery. I've seen some people put their batteries in the passenger side near the firewall. That sounds alright to me. I think I remember group 27? What type of battery should I be getting. Money is a concern, but so is being stuck in the desert with no fridge. I might be able to get a deal through work, but I don't know what size we use. I'll check that tomorrow. Likewise I might be looking at solar or something. I don't know if that's really needed for running a 12v fridge 24/7 when I'm still driving 50+ miles daily.

Used a paint pen to mark my drill points. The non-wired end is .5 (½) a millimeter higher than the other end. Otherwise, looks good once I get shorter bolts, and make the other end.

 

It almost got washed! But then it stopped raining so now it just looks worse

I think that usage would keep you and the battery charged. Dual batteries are more fun though.

 

More camping is never bad.

 

Finally been putting some proper miles on the truck. Ive decided bigger tires are gonna be mandatory. I dont like the noise at a constant 2200rpm which is where im at @70. 2krpm sounds good, but 60 mph is in the way out here. The other options are taller gears (is a 2002 a 7.5” front and 8” rear) or louder pipes. Loud and open is better than loud and muffled. A trans swap would be ideal. But without a clutch pedal mount, and computer something...

Two known issues, Parking brake cable snapped after rear drums and shoes were done last month, and there is a fuel leak if the PO fills the tank all the way.

Known service history: LBJ in 07 @ 40k, Frame 2014 @ 99k, Timing belt @109K, Airbag recall in 19, Brakes, including front calipers (brand unknown) in the last year. It has an aftermarket exhaust with no cats.

Going to have a mechanic fix the parking brake so wife can register and inspect, then drive it a bit and start the to do list. I wont be in the country for another 6 months, once it’s shaken out and looking good I’ll get Jade ready and sell.

 

The truck got washed and stripped. Then it got clayed. I used griots 3 in 1 ceramic to seal it back up (X2). I polished the glass and sealed it with rainX. I am driving it to KC to cover it in bugs and see how the sealant does.

 

I dont know how to find the post, but hard F on just disconnecting the drivers door. I need to disconnect the drivers back door as well, and i dont see a switch. Anyone got a pic of the beeper itself?

Super easy. Drain 4 quarts out and fill 4 quarts in through the orange tipped dipstick near the back of the engine.

Drain with the engine cold though.

You’ve just reminded me to Feather Dust my engine bay. Got her Warshed and AeroSpace’d today. Skipped the Wax On/Off due to spending time Warshing the MzPHMobile. Plus, its hot out there and didn’t want to Sun Damage my Hands.
