Which is exactly why governments subsidise certain industries. It doesn't seem fair on the surfaces, but a more extensive domestic silicon infrastructure sure would be nice right now.

Just one little factor could change everything. The virus could still mutate further causing our vaccines to become useless and back to square one all over again. Yes, I know, ten million other things could also occur. Just sayin, kinda hard to predict accurately at this point.

The truck itself was actually not too bad price wise. Just sucks that silly things that wouldn't have added much to the cost were not already done during the manufacturing. Under back seat storage is a good example. It's a total no brainer! Why not make good use of the space? Features, advantages, and benefits appeal to interests, needs, and desires which generates sales. Some engineer probably designed it without storage capability on purpose and has a relative set up selling the diy inserts for a huge profit.

When the decision was made to move away from slide and recline seats to a fold up rear I think they got more customer feed back asking for a loading floor. The shortcut was not redoing the seat brackets to provide a level rear floor.

Could easily have storage in the floor with folding or removable top hatches and a level loading floor on top of it. Just doesn't make sense to fill the huge void with foam and call it a day. Again features sell vehicles, and if I was in business to sell vehicles, then I would include cheap to produce, highly desirable features that just make sense.

I get where you are coming from, but I think you missed what I meant. The rear seats used to slide and recline and the floor was the same. They redesigned the seats to fold, but cut corners by not ALSO redesigning the floor in any way.

Yeah I got what you meant the first time, I was just reiterating what I tried to convey earlier, and you also agree with, there is room for improvement in the the rear cabin. No big deal, just something else I dislike and will likely eventually modify. Just doesn't sit well with me that I paid a complete price for an incomplete truck. Yes, I had a choice, I am the one to blame. However, it's still a solid powertrain and I like that, so I will correct the rest at my own pace and be thankful to have the ability to do so.

Like others have said, it’s all brands of trucks. Made the boneheaded decision to trade my 2018 Platinum Tundra in for a 2020 RST Silverado in March of 2020. Got a really good deal on Silverado, sticker was 55k, got it for 43k. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, checked Carvana to see what I could get for the RST. W/ 17k miles they offered $48,900. The dealer I bought my 18 Platinum had a new 1794 I liked. Didn’t get the same deal I got on my previous 18 from them, but they gave me 48k for my trade, and took 1k off sticker. Made 5k on a truck I put 17k miles on. This is definitely bizarre times.

not necessarily, people working from home last year and not going on vacation = much more income for toys.
    Also RV market is crazy.

So I found a BFN 2021 Tundra Limited 4X4 with lots of extras and I guess I should be glad to pay MSRP. I went thru 3 other dealers and they were trying to get over MSRP and were basically saying if you don't want to pay over MSRP someone else will...I don't want a V6...Certainly not in year 1 of a redesign...

Those dealership who seek over MSRP will see less sales and end up with less inventory overall so they’re not doing themselves any favors

Coming out of a Lexus and dealing with the dealer I had is a dream compared to the nightmare of dealing with a car dealer right now.

the handing out of stimulus money to people still working was terrible monetary policy. Paying people to not work is bad.

Yes, many people were laid off and they are just replacing income lost from working wages with unemployment, however, people like myself who never missed a single day of work, and even worked extra due to the pandemic got all this stimulus money that could have been used to buy stuff i otherwise wasn’t going to. That’s unnecessary increased demand when production is limited.

there was zero reason to do any stimulus checks. Zero. People who lost work were placed on higher than normal unemployment

Talked to the salesman I bought the new Tundra from yesterday. I asked him how inventory was for him.
He said he only has 9 new vehicles of any kind on the lot, and 22 used ones. He said they usually have at least 120 new and 100 used (and it’s the smallest Toyota dealership I’ve ever been to). Those guys have to be starving to death.

I sold my Tacoma last year when demand was stronger than supply, and then bought my Tundra.

It's getting hard to resist doing the same with my Tundra as strong as the market is. I had someone offer to purchase it last
week, but I wouldn't throw out a price, as last time I did that I sold my Tacoma the same day.

Believe it or not, they are actually thriving, the numbers are showing on average most dealers are seeing 30% increase in revenue, no longer you need to slap on discounts, and because the shortage, manufacturers are building more expensive trims to offset production reduction.

If you take a look at most dealerships now that have lots of SUV's/Trucks, most of them are stocking higher trim grades, I'll use GM as example, I think Denali trims make up 60% of the production this year so far, and I have yet seen any of them sold below MSRP, dealers have been encouraging customer to order what they want and wait, which is a win-win for everyone, you get exactly what you want, dealer knows exactly what to order, and manufactures know exactly what to make.

Mary Bara during investors call another day brought up its unlikely they will return to previous model of 120 days of inventory, as current method is much more efficient and have much higher yield.

It has also create a filter, whoever are buying now is because they need or want strong enough to pay MSRP, window shopping has been reduced, people who schedule appointment to come and see the car tend to have very high chance to buy the vehicle.

Tundras are like houses, ya, they've gone up stupidly over the last year but unless you want to walk to your tent, you'd have to buy something else if you sold...

B4C34B1E-141F-4E52-ABC4-4E5AD7A642B2.jpg This is a screen shot from yesterday from talking with an internet salesman: I live in Ohio and for fun put my 2019 Platinum with 2150 miles on KBB and did the Cash Offer thing just to see what it would bring. All the dealers in Ohio offered to pay the KBB generated price of around $52k. A dealer from Pittsburgh Pa. said they would give me $55k. I told them I just added the TRD Dual Exhaust 2 weeks ago and was hoping to get $57k. This is his response after talking to his manager. DANG! I paid $46k plus tax and have $3k in mods/accessories. So I have just over $50.5k in it. I am beside myself on what to do. I need a truck to pull my camper so I cant sell and wait for the dust to settle on the outrageous prices some dealers are charging. I guess I could go to Enterprise and rent a truck to haul the camper to the campground? Your thoughts? Keep what I have or sell?

I’d NEVER AGAIN go to NWMS. Went there for a used vehicle years ago and they’re all about getting as much as they can for as little as they give you. Mileage on their rigs barely matters to them, and they will have you paying for all the xtra bells and whistles on their trucks that actually brings the value down if you took it to them as a trade in (wheels, lift, mods that many wouldn’t want done prior to buying it).

I glanced at their site for about half a second when I was looking for a truck, and I could’ve grabbed a brand new truck at the time for what they wanted. I paid 38k for a 17 Platinum with 14k miles last June (a steal I know), and even when lots were pushing them out the door to anyone who would take them. Their prices then were comparable to most places today. There’s a reason they have stock, and it’s because they will hold it until someone is willing to seriously overpay.

Oh, and the one vehicle I did buy several years before was in and out of their shop for a couple weeks for them to make repairs. It was an “as-is” vehicle, no warranty, and I paid zero for repairs. Without getting into it, that should tell you they knew they were wrong. They didn’t want to fix it, told me no a cpl times, but then I threatened to take it further and lo and behold they could fix it! Stay away from NWMS
