Soo how many people do you know who have one?
I've seen one in this country over the last few years.
They don't exist at that level LOL

Now if we want to expand beyond automotive applications I can tell you all about two stroke V16 turbodiesels. Even if I do hate them. A lot.

    Uh oh...

Ford f150 lightning. Let's hope Toyota comes out with an answer to this or else they are still behind in tech. Although a ford, the fact of the matter is they now have a full electric.

Cmon toyota, show us a Tundra Prime to compete!

    Agreed.

Between the Lightning and the PowerBoost, Ford has a pretty impressive lineup.

I can’t wait to see the official info on the new Tundra. Will be tempting to replace my 2018, but I think I will be waiting for them to come out with the Tundra / Sequoia Prime.

I think Toyota needs to come out with a Plug In Hybrid to compete with the new Ford Lightning. You can't tow with an Electric vehicle yet.

PHEV, Home Depot, groceries, Honey Do's, typical errands around town on electric would be great. Then gas for the trips across 3 states. Plus it charges overnight.

From what I've read, nobody knows what is going to happen, but if there is are different modes i.e. Electric, Hybrid, etc. Then you could use the truck as a traditional Hybrid. The electric kicks in when you step on the gas or need more power. I have a Lexus RX 400H, driving through the mountains is a breeze. Just set the cruise control and drive. When it gets steep the electric motors kick in and the car never slows down. You don't have to step on the gas or gear down like my other cars and trucks.

I'm in with a PHEV day one. I'll be one of those that puts in a down payment just to get on the list.

Seen the f150 with an extended battery pack has a 300mi range. I’m sure that’s affected by temp and payload. It will work for some, but towing a 5000# trailer 4 guys in the truck, some gear in the bed in winter with temps as low as -40, and needing to drive 300-1000 miles... just not sure how that is going to work.

Two strokes are my fav engine. They outlawed them from motor racing years ago due to their HP per cu. in. superiority.
With today's advancements they can run super clean.
Imagine a 3.0 litter force inducted rotary valved flat six producing in excess of 1200 HP.
That engine could weigh as little as 200 pounds. Crazy?
Not really the 930K Porsche, produced that back in the 70s with their Can AM / Mark Donahue car.
That was a four stroke back then and they tuned it down.
Add another power stroke by going two stroke and easily they could produce gobs more.

EV's are still only good for second vehicles IMO, primary being the one you do 400 mile roundtrips in a day, 4000 mile trips over a week. So if one does that in hotels the towing isn't needed and the primary can be a car, and second be the Lightning. Can switch up the roles of the cheap fuel vehicle, used to be the small commuter car for fuel efficiency. The Lightning will appeal to those who use a truck to fix up stuff around the house and rarely take a truck out of the city.

For those of us who would like to do the long trips, take a truck off road, and do some towing a PHEV would be the best option right now. I'd love to be able to run around town using no fuel but then be able to drive off to the mountains and not have to plan stops.

my wife has a Chevy Bolt EV as a commuter car. It has a 300 mile range also. But rarely is that the case .
    266 is average.
In cold weather full charge is more like 195-210.
It’s really hard to gauge range on elevation. For example from my house to The top of Donner pass is 40miles.
With speed, uphill , and AC I may use 80 miles of range on her car. But coming back with regen downhill I’ ll only use 13 miles of range for the same distance.

I dont think those guys are going to buy it. Just like guys who tow 15k regularly dont buy a regular F150. Not suitable for the task.

But there are plenty of guys who dont tow very often, maybe take their boat to the lake 50 miles away in the summer a few weekends a year, and drive 20 miles to work each day, and might use their bed at best to bring some garbage to the dump or an appliance from home depot home. This truck is perfect for that. Yeah, this truck isnt going to be towing the tool trailer to a remote jobsite, but I guarantee they sell a boat load of these if they actually end up selling for MSRP and they can produce a decent volume of them.

I dont just think its going to work for "some", I think it will work for many, many people.

I'd rather they wait and develop something actually useable for Truck Stuff, than jump in the race to be first to release an inferior product.

yeah, I wouldn't want my primary to be an ev, or even my secondary(and probably at some point that will change) ....

Our 2018 S5 Audi Sportback is my primary, and the 2011 Tundra is secondary for towing boats, and/or carrying the motorcycle with or running to Lowes/home depot on occasion when it's an oversized load, or dirty stuff we can just throw in the back.

Just think of the people that just bought a trd pro at MSRP or god forbid ADM. Wait 6 months and the entire 2.5 gen will be 5-10k less.

TRD Pros go for at the least MSRP and some BS fees tagged along from dealer which they tell you is mandatory with every vehicle we sell (blackmailing) and some even charging over MSRP and people are still buying .
I dont know if they will be $5-$10k less in 6 months i am very skeptical about that. one reason is the chip shortage isnt getting better anytime soon. Secondly you can find a big chunk of population who want V8 instead of TT3.5 V6 i am not one of them i rather have better gas mileage but still a huge portion of buyers will be trying to get hands on last of V8s.
Also i thought TRD PROs always sell for MSRP they were never discounted, maybe im wrong.

For sure. I get what you're saying, but this new gen tundra will be coming out shortly, and the chip shortage won't change the fact that an entirely new generation not based off 2005 engineering knowhow will trump any 2021 tundra.

The people who are all about the 5.7 V8, and would never drive a TTV6 are the same ones who think electric vehicles will never replace ICE engines. They're stuck in the past.

I still don't think the price will drop that significantly. Look at 2007 when the 2nd gen launched. It was top of the line for the time, but the 1st gen values didn't plummet.

Yes that’s been out for a few days.

10 speed, turbos, and power numbers that are solidly in the “meh” category compared to the same engine configuration and displacement from Ford.

Problem is Toyota will not update their engine for a decade or more, and Ford will up the power on theirs 4 times in that same 10 years.

I am unimpressed if those numbers are true. Very unimpressed.

Well the aftermarket has yet to crack the ECU on the V35A-FTS in the LS500 and they’ve had going on 4 years to figure it out.

So that is not going to happen.

Besides for many customers not voiding their power train warranty is more important than being able to tune for more power.

Ford can put a new engine in their trucks every year. That doesn't mean the quality of the truck increases. Have you seen the inside of a Raptor? selling for 75-85k and the interior quality is worse than a base trim Tundra.

a TRD Pro is pricey. But honestly the interior and quality is worth it in my opinion.

Ford makes great engines too bad they can't make a great car to go with it.

I have a lot friends and coworkers who drive Ford trucks, heck my in-laws have a 2014 EcoBoost. None of them have had many issues. We can bag on GM and Ford but at the end of the day the trucks they make are generally pretty damn reliable too.
