    Ford is going on the offensive, but it s hard to know how it will all turn out. Some videos are interesting;

They had to show Toyota numbers which doesn t look good...

Digital tech has matured by now. It s just a matter of time. But the successful ness of anything is dependent on the current envirnment. Cant get around that. It s all still a crap shoot. I m just glad my Tundra is paid off, and gas is still for sale. All else is just fluffy entertainment.

Well said with very valid points ..

Which brings us to solid state batteries. New up and coming tech in the auto field. Look up solid power. Ford and a few other companies are invested in them (based in CO as well)

Ohh man, can't wait till they IPO, especially after this weeks crypto crash

Well they got 20,000 orders in the first 12 hours. For ease of math let’s assume each truck as $50k (which is a bit low). That’s a cool billion right off the jump. Not bad.

Tons of articles and studies out there showing how if every vehicle on the road was EV, it would increase the load on the power grid by 25%. The power grids are federally mandated to easily handle this type of peak / spike loading RIGHT NOW.

With EV use being a much more gradual increase, this increase in grid load will be easily handled with gradual upgrades over the next couple decades.

The EV Karens have just as many staunch ICE Karens on the other side living in their own perspective echo chambers of confirmation bias.

No solution is going to be 100% effective for 100% of the population. But got damn some folks need to shake themselves and realize that the engineers and scientists are far smarter than they are, and they are bringing the consumer truly amazing products that are early on in their development cycles, and they are going to be mind blowing in a very short amount of time.

I agree somewhat. My concern is that in some parts of the country the power grid can not handle the current load demands RIGHT NOW let alone an additional 25% peak load. Example>>>California experienced blackouts and planned rolling brown outs last year during peak demand partially due to high temps and worries about fire danger among them. PG&E expects this situation to double over the next 15 years and quadruple over the next 30 years. Needless to say that infrastructure needs to be updated for current and future demand which will of course will take several years. Ford will no doubt sell a lot EV trucks which is great. The more the merrier. Patiently waiting for Yota's offering in regards to an EV or Hybrid truck. Competition is good and whoever comes out with the most efficient and cost effective EV/Hybrid wins the prize!

A lot of those reservations are for bragging rights. People like to boast about how they have a deposit down on something fancy, then get the deposit back later and move on to the latest craze. It would surprise me if over 10% of those reservations are serious buyers.

EV is awesome for short stint performance but IMO is just not anywhere near mature enough (really, practical enough) for the purpose of stuffing into a vehicle like a truck. I'd be very happy with an EV commuter that goes to a "home base" but there is no way I would be able to survive with a full-EV truck that only gets 300 miles unladen. All of my buddies lusting after the cybertruck don't realize that putting a dirt bike on the back is essentially like putting a sail up, especially when looking at the aerodynamic design of the truck.

To be honest, I'm actually super interested to see what Toyota pulls off with the hybrid Tundra -- hybrids really shine around town and that's where my truck gets decimated in fuel economy. From a practicality perspective, it's the best of both worlds. 500 miles in 15 minutes, and your economy theoretically should not take that much of a hit when around town.

Ford has always done a good job with first-impressions on their F-series trucks IMO, and they "work" well enough for the vast majority. Hell, when I was looking at picking up a full size truck I almost ended up with an F-150 5.0 until I started reading into the oil burning issues due to plasma coated cylinder walls.

300 miles of range for 8 hours of recharge... 8 HOURS!!! This has to be a joke. You literally spend more time charging then on the road, and this is max range and shortest recharge.

If you just plug it in at night it will handle likely 99% of the trips people drive.

No, it’s not the vehicle for folks who tow heavy for long distances. No, it’s not the vehicle for long extended road trips. No one is saying it is. And statistically speaking, those trips / activities make up a small demographic, and among that demo the half ton truck probably isn’t the best choice anyhow.

Texas just made the EV that much less enticing including possibly the Lightning. Adding up all the fees with the cost of my daily driver that the wife and I share (we bought new at 24k) and if passed these new Texas fees by the time you break even on a EV car or truck and compare might not be worth depending on how much you drive. Wife and I fill up the daily once every three weeks for low 20ish bucks atm and our other vehicles once every month or two. For the EV trucks the range while towing is already lackluster so yeah and as mentioned the 8 hour recharge time if on a towing trip is lame.

Sounds like a fine commuter with that range and charge, but a less than ideal truck. It will sell, because most people who buy trucks do it because they want, rather than need, a truck. I live where winter lasts for 6-9 months, and it's not uncommon to drive 300 miles one way to see a friend.

I'll keep what I have and watch the tech evolve, because I think it's cool.

I understand all that, but it's not even competitive with other EV's on the market... Tesla supercharger is 0-80% in 40 minutes and the Porsche is similar.

Doug DeMuro had a good point, even if you used the truck for towing and accepted you have to charge every 100 miles, you couldn't even do that since charging stations are usually a single parking space in some crowded parking lot.

“Plug into a 150-kW DC fast charger and the battery can fill from 15 to 80 percent charge in just 41 minutes, gaining as much as 54 miles in 10 minutes. With the extended-range battery and dual-charger plugged into an 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro charger, the system can take the battery from 15 to 100 percent charge in 8 hours, or roughly 30 miles per hour of charging.”

The 230 mile range is better than my Tundra gets. I WOULD NEVER HAVE ONLY AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE. Still need a good old gasser for cross country jaunts #Merica!! I could use this F150 as a daily though. It's nothing more than a "city truck" in my eyes which is just fine. My wife had a Tesla Model S for years so I've seen the benefits of electric, but Ford would never spoil us with service like Elon did. Tesla ownership was a wonderful experience that Ford just can't match. All that being said, YES, I was one of the 22,000 that put in a deposit. You're right that it doesn't mean I'll follow thru on it though.

Guess I left the door open for that one. I have friends and family closer and farther than 300 miles, but the 300 mile mark is about the limit for frequent visits.

I think I am also going to buy one , I put a deposit down. I need a truck for daily commute 70 -100 miles a day. Typically I am driving empty. Only once a week I am loaded bringing supplies for business from Dallas , that still is a 120 mile trip. For longer trips I ll keep my tundra.

This is in line with the requirements that have been around for decades for vehicles using fuels that aren't taxed at the pump. I ran a pickup on propane for a few years and had to get a special tax permit before the vendors were allowed to sell it to me. The permit cost from $75 to $250 a year depending on how many miles you drove.

So 54 miles in 10 minutes compared to:
    upload_2021-5-21_13-44-21.jpg
So 1/2 the performance (credit to you, better then I thought). But now we have to stay within 15%-80% making the top range 200 miles. So 200 miles then 40 minutes of charge.

Furthermore, I'm giving traveling (in Texas 400 miles isn't far), I'm giving up spontaneity (always have to plan charging), I'm giving up reliable service (i.e. power outages) to save 2% of my monthly budget that goes towards gas. I just don't see value in the trade-off.
