Sell, make 10k profit, drive FJ until the dust settles and prices come back down?? I’m pretty sentimental but not that sentimental.

Do it, but consider new Tundra is going to be more expensive, the used price may not come down much.

Its going to take either a massive recession, massive gas hikes, or years of time for the used tundra market to go back down. Think about it, there is such a massive shortage and production will not be catching up anytime soon, yet the supply is getting farther and farther behind every month this goes on.

Valid, though I’m assuming the production of the naturally aspirated 5.7 tundras are over, regardless. So next gen raises the price of used market even more- or taper back to normal prices, which yes, is of the highest resale value of any truck but this is buck wild.

I agree and I think it mainly depends on just how good the next gen Tundra is. If they knock it out of the park and produce a truck that truly lives up to the hype some are giving it, prices for the current gen could go down. If they don’t, prices could stay high for a long time for V-8 Tundras.

I sold my TSS package for 5k more than I paid for it. Very crazy times. Got lucky and purchased a 2021 TRD Pro Lunar Rock. Zero incentives though.

Toyota May be ramping down production ahead of the 2022 switchover and using current events as a reason - just a guess. They need to retool and update the assembly lines.

This has to be real time inflation at play. Dealer agreed to take my 2019 trdor taco for 37k in trade on a new trd pro cm at msrp, and now CarMax is offering me 40k for the taco. These are absolutely insane prices. I paid 34500 for the taco 3 years ago. The world has gone and lost its damn mind. If the tundra wasn't msrp, I'd just sell the taco to CarMax and ride my bike for a year.

When the insanity stops, eventually, there are going to be A LOT of UPSIDE down vehicles out there, and I mean WAY WAY upside down....:violent:

Paid 50k for my 21 Platinum in November. Surprised I got it that cheap even then. The lot only had three Tundras at the time, and told me their stock on all vehicles was only about half what it was normally.
They probably have way less stock now. There’s a couple of Toyota dealerships I drive by almost daily, and their lots look barren as hell.

Good discussion…. I just paid off my 2018 SR5. No idea what it’s worth, but I wonder if I sold it, jumped to something else more “practical” for a couple years and then looked at trucks again when this stupid calms down.

Flip-side is the potential that the market doesn’t calm down and then I’m without a truck.

Flip-flip-side is that gas prices continue to follow the Illinois Model and go full-retard. My 16mpg truck becomes more and more painful to drive.

I don’t like having my decisions forced by external forces, but when it’s a National or world economy I can’t effectively push back; maybe the smart move is to jump off the Titanic while water is still below the portholes…

    thoughts??

The media reports are actually correct. I have a microchip inside source. And confirms what the media is reporting: it will be something like TWO YEARS to get the chip supply back on track and "normal."

Used ones cost more because new ones cost more. A lot of bored people creating churn in just about every possible market. Sports cars are even worse.

It really depends, but I would venture to say based on past experiences if you at least really like what you have keep it. Simply because you have ZERO clue as to what the future holds.

IMHO I feel gas prices are going to go much higher over the next few years and parts suppliers are going to be in a back log like never seen before. I am not sure how this will change the new/used car market. Will it cause people to sell their gas guzzling trucks or keep them because no trucks are available?.?. Who knows...I love my truck so I am sticking it out. A 150 bucks for a tank of gas is going to hurt though...

Gaslighting” refers to the phenomenon in which someone insists so strenuously on a false version of events that those listening start doubting the reality right in front of their eyes.

Is it bad form to quote oneself in a post?

I did leave out one important distinctive: the Tundra is ultra-reliable and with simple maintenance should hit 300k miles. I’m not sure that whatever I would swap for it would have the same potential. The most important thing to do in any crisis is to take your own pulse (calm yourself down), so I’m reaching for my radial pulse as I reach for the Woodford Reserve.

For kicks went to Carvana in Atlanta website and for my silver beauty they gave a buy price for my 2015 Dbl Cab 4x4 33000.00. Has 70000 miles Paid 32000 for in may 2019. Bet no other truck brand could get that. Of course not selling.

Everything it more expensive right now, I have a 1996 Proline 251 boat that I bought for $15k five years ago, now I see the same boat going for $20 to $35K, insane!! Same with TT's, I've been trying to buy one but prices are thru the roof right now...good time to sell if you can wait a few years until everything calms down a bit.

The fact that carvana is overpaying for trade ins shows that they are banking on the truck shortage to last for a long time
