One of my co-workers thought we should find a way to use hydrogen to store energy in the lower demand seasons and convert it back to electricity when needed but that would be contingent on finding a more efficient way to do electrolysis.

There are a lot of conferences every year that do exactly that. One of the biggest is in Orlando (PowerGen).

If you can get into a power generation field, jump on it. Good money in it and if you are able to change with the ebb and flow of the industry...the sky is the limit.

    Yep.

Have your co-worker check out Molten Salt reactors. Pretty cool shit right there.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molten_salt_reactor

I wish we used more small modular reactors. Of course when "nuclear" is spewed out...society sees mushroom clouds instead of a low carbon solution.

That's my idea, originally studied engineering through highschool I was the president of a well know section of a robotics club called Ramtech my senior year, Changed my occupation studies because I see the potential in the field especially having been offered an internship at my freshmen year I want to prove myself to them.

I literally just returned from a drive of my boss' 1993 Toyota Supra Turbo. It's mint with only 58k miles. T-top. Red. Basically the dream car of my youth (except this is an auto and I would prefer a manual). The engine is strong, especially for the weight of the car. So why am I mentioning this? Because after the drive, I decided that it wasn't all that special. The acceleration is matched by many sedans and even suv's nowadays. The ride is harsher yet doesn't seem to inspire confidence of some of todays sports sedans. The brakes are atrocious compared to modern vehicles.

So as I appreciate the rock solid reliability and dependability of the Tundra in all of its 5.7l v8 glory, years from now I'll look back at it and say that it was good but we have progressed further. I don't know if the Lightning is any good. None of us do. But I appreciate what it represents. And I appreciate that the 2022 Tundra will represent progress as well. I don't think either vehicle will be perfect out of the gates because toddlers fall when they are learning to walk. It comes with the territory.

yup. lots of new tech languishing on uni campuses begging for funding. It would be nice to get some of that going.

Again. Research. Toyota is well on board with EV and could rule it with their battery tech. I hope they pull it off. 600-1000 mile range. 10 minute recharge. An a 30 year lifespan. Toyota thinks long term and this battery tech is the future of EV.

An why would anyone use their mode of transportation to power anything in their house? That's stupid. Prepare your house for the worst and don't be stuck using up a necessity to keep your family warm and your food cold. A way to transport you and your family to safety is a necessity IMO.

I love when people say, I wish they still made real trucks like they did back in the day. Today's trucks so far out in front of what those trucks were capable of it is not even funny.

I think if I get a electric vehicle I’m also going to get a big human size hamster wheel, this way I can produce my own electricity and “deblubberize” myself into a lean mean fighting machine... ha ha

I’d rather buy the roush supercharged 5.0 v8 Lightning replica from the ford dealer in Georgia somewhere for $49,500. The range and recharge time just isn’t there for EV. Not to mention the electric grid can’t handle a massive amount of EV’s

    What a genius idea. It’s almost like.....wait....maybe.....that.....may.....be.....the.....plan.

    Oh.....but screw it.

There is a vehicle shortage(at least that I am interested in) and I still have a need....every once in a while to use my truck as a “truck”.

A truck you can't really do truck thing in without draining your battery very quickly. Not without a large network of charging stations. If you wanted to take a trip across country or even your state, you'd have to plan on a very limited route. Probably a route that isn't time conducive to your destination. And a 240v home charger is a must at 14 miles per hour. A 12 hr charge would net 168 miles. Not bad for small commuting or back and forth to work but what happens when your power goes out and you use the truck as a generator? Well that's probably not wise seeing it's only going to last 3 days on a full charge, which you probably wont have. So I wouldn't rely on that and I think they are using the recent Texas power outage as a scare tactic and advertise how good this feature is.

I'd say for me to get one I'd have to have.

    1) a large network of charging stations across the country.
    2) A home off-grid solar power set up with extra batteries to keep the house and truck going incase of an extended outage.

I commend Ford for their vision and innovation but we're just not there yet for this to be for the masses.

As mentioned by more than a few, battery tech and infrastructure are the issues for anything other than bombing around town.

    Example:
A buddy of mine was returning to Tucson from visiting family in Newport Beach CA last year and stopped to get some gas in the thriving metropolis of Blythe. While gassing up he notices there were more than a few Tesla's loitering about. Thinking this must be some kind of Tesla rally, or some other event, he got to talking to one of the guys and was told, nope, no rally/event, just waiting to get hooked up to a charger so we can get on our way. My buddy asks the guy "how long you been waiting?". "Oh, a couple of hours so far. Looks like it'll be 6 hours total before we can even get on a charger. Then about an hour or two for enough juice to get where we need to go."

We're obviously not ready for this EV push.

Exactly. I feel the same. If I could charge it as fast as I can refuel, and go just as far while towing, and not having to deal with the battery losing juice in the cold, I’d be in line as well.

I'm Not hating on EV's here. But a ford, is still a ford, no matter what you do to it. Whether it's gas, diesel or electric they are junk.
If you put lipstick and a prom dress on a pig,it's still a pig!
    Fuck ford's!
When the time comes to switch to EV I'm going with Tundra!

How many are fleet, business, or PR purchases?

Also, let's say this is all individual sales, how many are just keeping up with the Joneses?

Finally, since when does the public buying something en masse mean that thing will be quality, viable, or function as intended? Look at the stats on reliability for full size trucks, and then look at the sales numbers... it's almost like the public is retarded and buys shit based on marketing, hype, and FOMO.... Interesting...:monocle:

All that said, I think it's neat as hell to see the EV tech advancing. My only pushback on any of it is the continued shrieking of Karens out to save the world by forcing others to live how they are told to.

Agreed. How many people signed up to buy the abomination that is the Cybertruck as soon as it was announced, despite Elon trolling us with the design?
