Or this is just a bunch of people that like Toyota and hope the new Tundra will be able to compete in today’s market.

First, my comment was made with sarcasm. It's a joke poking fun at the way this thread evolved. It's a joke that has been made by many throughout the life of this thread.

Second, until it is officially announced BY TOYOTA, everything is speculation. So, though it is a joke, my comment is still accurate.

Don't need to go over 80" wide to compete with Tremor/AT4/Rebel. Power Wagon is a beast of its own and I think it would be cool if they did a rock crawling beast like it, it would be unique to the half ton segment. But going over 80" suggests longer travel suspension which is the domain of the Raptor and TRX.

    EXACTLY THIS!

As a former Ecoboost owner the old saying goes.... You get the Eco or you get the Boost.

Around town they are the same fuel economy as the V8. Towing they get terrible fuel economy like the V8. On the highway, on cruise, keeping the speed limit, you can get really good fuel economy for a 6000lb 4X4 brick travelling down the road.

It's not all its cracked up to be and made me go back to the V8s.

At my work we have Dodge, Ford, and Chevy in the fleet. Everything is driven super hard and idle time is off the charts but maintenance is performed by the dealerships. Our Dodges start falling apart before the warranty period is up. Our Chevys with the 5.3 are on their third or forth cooling systems and they're dogs on acceleration. The Ford's tend to be better in longevity mostly running the 3.5 NA, a few 3.5 Ecoboosts are too early to tell, and the V8 good, but QC in other areas not so much.

Doesn't look like there's a hood bulge. Which means no chance of getting a 40" light bar in the hood, which is a bummer. The one behind the grille looks to be about a 20" and there's no mention of what trim level that comes on. It'll most likely be the TRD Pro.

Way under powered to compete with the TRX, and I’m sure Ford will have a new power plant in the Raptor by fall. Again, to compete with them it is going to need some substantial power increase with a an 8 or one big battery.

Santa i've been very good this year so far....pulllease have a crewmax with ~6.5 foot bed.

The front looks good to me. Looks like a badass version of the 4runner I have already. Way better than lexus and that weird hour glass mouth of a hideous grill they have. I'm so glad they are sticking with the taco and 4runner lines for the front.

I think it looks ok but I would have liked to have seen more pronounced fender flared arches like the trx or raptor. Maybe it's the 90's kid in me that lived the look for the E30 M3 or VW rally golf.

True enough, but back in 2007 when I bought my truck the Tundra had the most power, biggest brakes, most gears, and the most capabilities of any 1/2 ton. In fact it wasn’t even close.

Here we are 15 years later and the expectation is that Toyota is going to bring a truck that is already an “also ran” right out of the gate. Let’s hope they do better than the predictions, because they won’t update it for another decade.

How do you know it's under powered? We haven't got any confirmed specs on regular models, let alone one to compete with TRX or Raptor R. Being that it's almost certainly FI they can tune it up to get into the high 600's to compete with those 2

Just curious, because I genuinely don't know... does Toyota often chase low production high $ models outside of the LC? It seems counter to their general business philosophy (efficient production/volume sales). So would they even care to try and create/match the TRX and Raptor, or will they be content with something less extreme and more easily built? Something more akin to GM's AT4 trim or current TRD Pro?

It really wouldn't take much to turn a Tundra into a Raptor type truck. Change the suspension, add some fender flares, change the software to add some more boost to the turbos and charge $20,000 more for it. For something that would be pretty easy to do, I don't see why they wouldn't. It's just a couple different parts, have Fox or King develop the shocks for you and do the R and D and I would think you would be able to do it fairly cheaply.

I prefer driving the v8 by far. The EB does feel to have slightly more pull but combined with the substantial turbo lag, it's a very odd feeling. Like a delayed slingshot?

I've never been in an ecoboost, but I raced a guy at work with a tuned one that was probably making over 500hp, and even with brake boosting he couldn't launch off the line as hard as the v8. 90% of turbo vehicles I've been in have painfully slow throttle response, even my Can Am which has a very quick spooling turbo you can feel the lag and have to compensate for the power delay if you're trying to drive precisely. V8 instant torque still reins supreme as far as response and joy to drive imo

It certainly seems against their typical strategy, up until the teaser I would have said no way they go full on Baja truck. But with the wide truck lights (with the TRX having similar style they're no longer just Raptor style) what else could it be? All Tundra's are going to be wider than 80" - I think not, lots of people don't like the size of the current half ton market then they want to go wider for general trims? Any other type of 'special edition' size would be a disadvantage - rock crawler, speed focused. Only good reason to go wider is for longer suspension travel.

Too many factors to compare different truck tests. Weight location, 4wd on or off, driving surface, different settings all have big effects. Can do 2 Tundras side by side and get very different results based on what the driver does. Have a new 3rd gen one go against a 2nd gen with no nannies turned off and I'd expect the 2nd gen to launch much better. Take a 3rd gen and turn TC right off, turn on Tow/Haul and build the right RPM and it'll launch quite a but different.

I guess we'll see a June/July release for the new Tundra to coincide with the LC300 debut since they share the same TNGA-F platform.

Here's How The New 2022 Toyota Tundra Could Look, According To An Industry Expert! - YouTube

Then the next gen Sequoia and Lexus LX will debut mid-2022 for the USA, they share the Tundra TNGA-F platform. Sequoia possibly will be a LC200 clone for offroad capability and the jumbo luxury SUV will be the Lexus LX.

Tundra, Sequoia, LX will have the 3.5lTT as the only engine in North America and a 10-spd auto trans. Sequoia and LX possibly get a hybrid 3.5lTT, hence the later debut.

Then the 4Runner and Lexus GX roll out in 2023 on the TNGA-F platform with who knows what engine/trans. Then the TNGA-F Tacoma follows with who knows what engine/trans.

What’s the TRX, like 700hp. I’m sure Ford is going to bring something out to compete with it. Not going to get a 3.5 TT to pump out that much HP. I think they would get a better market share orienting the truck towards an AT4/Tremor???

Read this article a few months back about the new Raptor and what engine Ford is going to use. My guess is to compete with the TRX amongst others.

I have to believe the Toyota truck engineers are grumbling like someone pissed in their wheaties.
They have everything they need to compete with the Raptor and the TRX.
Blown 5.7 with good exhaust will give 700 plus with some software.
Aftermarket suspension pieces are all there, Toyota just needs to ink a deal with one of them.

A 10 speed and forced induction would definitely help with MPGs too!
