I saw one EV with no grille that looks good. E-Golf, maybe?

Isn't that part of the infrastructure plan? Insert two electric metal strips along all interstate and major highway lanes to power all of these electric vehicles on long journeys? Am I the only one that remembers playing with slot cars as a kid? Just do that and BOOM! Range problem solved!

I wouldn't own any electric vehicle, much less a Ford. I don't care what they do to it, its still a Ford. Trucks were meant to have powerful V-8's. An all electric truck screams "Look at me Lucky Charms" and a loss of your man card.

The 300 mile maximum range is a deal killer. Oh wait, it has a Ford badge. I guess there are two deal killers.

Based on TFL’s Tesla towing test a year or so ago, that’s probably 100 miles maximum of towing anything. Then something like 45 minutes to get back to a 80% charge.

Great truck for around town and hauling junk to the dump. Maybe great for contractors if their job sight is close to home and their charging station. Completely worthless otherwise in the real world. I want a Toyota version of the hybrid f150. Enough power to run my trailer or home and a fuel tank to run the engine as a generator.

I thought I'd heard California or someplace like that was working on this something like 15 years ago but, at that time, I'm pretty sure it would only work in places where it stays warm enough all year to use concrete for the road surfaces.

I'm really excited by this progress. As others have stated, these 100% electrics won't satisfy every need, but for many this will be a great option. Also (for now) they are primarily being powered by fossil fuels indirectly as most power grids in this country are powered by them.

Having said that, one step at a time. This is progress in my mind. I love the idea of my family having something like a V6TT Tundra getting 25+mpg with plenty of usable power and range along with a 100% electric for daily commutes / shorter trips / or trips that allow for lengthy recharges.

I'm all for cleaner power and a more sustainable future.

I hadn't heard of that, but imagine the snow plow drivers up north. "I have this 12 foot metal blade and you want me to lay it across two electric strips? Ummmm... NO!" lol

I still like hybrids. Corolla hybrid costs about $2k more than the standard Corolla and gets about double the mileage.

That'll work until the first semi jackknifes, rolls over, and shorts the whole thing out. If you remember slot car racing, you'll probably also remember there was always some jerk that thought it was funny to put a penny on the track to short it out when the power was turned back on after a race.

Stupid me was really hoping and kind of expecting an all-electric one of these to be shown off. I'm disappointed but not shocked. Oh well... It's still my favorite truck of all time.

ya, I had a prius as a loner car for a few days. those things are excellent for second car runabouts. Although, I'm lucky I didn't die in it as you spend half your time looking at the fancy screen trying to keep it running on all battery and lower your L/100kms. Over 3 days of short commutes to work (remember when we did that?) I averaged 3.2 L/100kms on a straight hybrid (no plug-in). I'm not sure what that translates to in american but it's fricken awesome.

I'm hoping my wife gets some sort of Toyo Hybrid next. I won't be trading in my tundra until it dies sometime in the 2090's when my grandkids finally put it in a museum but for a grocery getter, you can't beat a small hybrid.

Here is where I’m at with EVs; I like the torque and acceleration. However, driving EV is like watching porn without sound. It’s doable, but you don’t get full experience. If I ever bought one, it’d be for going fast, or towing my TT. But until I can get 300 miles while towing, and 30 minute recharge, it’s not happening for me. And I’d put a big sticker, across rear window that says “Saving money on gas to buy more guns!’

Toyota and Ford have the right idea of investing in EVs but not dropping the ICE car. I agree with what some have said in this thread like me that tow because the technology isn't there yet and myself included does not want to sit at a location with trailer for 30 mins to an hour depending on charge times when I can refuel in 8 mins and go. This is an article I found about Ford's stance with the ICE Mustang which is probably the strat they are/will be using the F150. https://carbuzz.com/news/ford-musta...1NNWHAoHZR73MNIc#0_5_9965_8657_2645_229089685

    Not necessarily man.

So here is my area generation right at the moment:

    Through our joint dispatch:

1984 MW wind generation (this is supplying southern CO, NM, Northern Texas, Denver sales, etc)

This is in the region. I'm buying 259 MW of it now since it's cheap power. I can't state how cheap.

    Local Generation:

    27 MW wind
    113 MW solar
    32 MW Hydro electric

172 MW renewable generation locally. We are selling the excess at a profit, but cheaper than fossil fuels to keep other consumers from using FF's.

Total of what Colorado Springs is generating/purchasing in renewable energy right now is 439 MW

    Fossil Fuel:

    Online-

1 gas turbine/steam turbine at the lowest set-point possible 110 MW (240 MW max).
2 small coal units totaling 90 MW. These are getting decommissioned in the fall thankfully.

200 MW of fossil fuel energy being generated right now. We could buy more and shut these units down, but we need to keep operational and spinning reserves for grid reliability. (something ERCOT could learn about) If you want to learn about operational/spinning reserves for the grid....GTS.

    Offline-
1 Large gas turbine 240 MW. To start this unit, it costs 10,000.00 in LTSA (long term service agreement through GE) maintenance and gas start up costs.
1 bigger coal unit 208 MW. This takes 24 hours to start and a metric buttload of coal.
3 oil fired boilers 54 MW. This is just astronomical to burn fuel oil. We never run these units, but are in the portfolio.
2 quick response gas turbines (simple cycle) 66 MW. Reliable for peak loading, depending on Natural Gas cost, can be very expensive.

568 MW possible of fossil fuels down right now due to using renewables.

Colorado Springs is using 350 MW right now (cool weather, out of peak loading) and area load is ~531 MW. Due to regulation, I have to keep system reliability as a top priority, so 200 MW is FF. So I am using 331 MW of renewables. I'm selling 110 MW at a profit of renewables.

Starting to think Next Era Energy would be the company that makes this countries power grid capable of transitioning to a more modern efficient energy production, we're running nuclear and solar down here, maybe some wind if I am not wrong. Heavily invested in battery technology advancements.

Not much of a comparison considering the mega population NEE is powering in South FL, they do great prices and have an amazing failure prevention program as well as short restoration times.

We are buying 40MW battery banks for Peak Time loading. Charge them up using renewables.

Also concrete just cracks here in the winter under heavy loads like vehicles and, as far as I know, you can't easily embed the strips in asphalt.

That battery tech is okay but the idea is to make battery technology capable of storing enough energy created the day before to power your house through the next couple of rainy days, right now we would not be able to rely of solar only because we have no way of powering customers through those low production hours, this is why there is a heavy heavy investment in battery production and other green reliable future options. I believe we fossil fuels is a thing of the past in mass energy production, inefficient and quite lazy. Comes down to the companies my opinion the best power company in this country is NEE formerly known as FPL before they became a fortune 500. Really comes down to how efficient the companies are, I haven't read up on many other places but I am gonna look into what you said, may work well for your area depending on energy usage throughout the day, I also believe we at one point will incorporate buying back energy from customers, meaning you could have solar panels on your roof make your own power and sell us what is left over. The future is here lol

This isn't a peak loading time in CO or the area. This is a 1/4 of the generation. We are not as populated as the east coast for sure...especially FL. I do like how things are ran down there though. Was there in March (Miami and Stuart, Crystal River).

NEE is a good company. People in the industry are modeling after them for sure.

Depending on geographical location, the battery banks are used differently for sure.

I believe we have a program where we share information with other companies in order to help make the industry more efficient and trade methods or technologies, hoping to apply my CM major with power delivery next summer, would be cool to be 20 with a starting career in a company I've looked up to for years
