Conditionally “maybe” depending on what they bring out.

I have a 2007 that I have owned since 2007. So I do like the truck but have some complaints I think need to be addressed from the factory:

1.) More fuel range. I want a minimum of a 35 gallon fuel tank, regardless of what mileage improvements are made.

2.) I despise the rear axle’s lack of a locking differential. The Auto LSD is a useless gimmick and whoever came up with it instead of a proper LSD or electronic locker needs to be horsewhipped.

3.) More power, and more gears. If I don’t see 450hp and 500lb-ft in front of a 10 speed I’m simply not impressed. Nearly 15 years is a long time to wait for an improved power plant and if they bring some lame engine making any less than those numbers it’s a disappointment in my view. I’d prefer this to be via a big naturally aspirated V8, but I also understand that is unlikely.

4.) Better ride quality and steering feel. This is self explanatory, the Tundra is not a comfortable riding truck and the steering is vague.

If rumors are to be given credence at this point I doubt I will see anything addressed aside from ride quality. That is not enough to get me to buy a new Tundra. I will keep my old one anyway, so if the new truck is lame I’ll just direct that $60-65K towards some other conveyance that isn’t lame.

If we get a true TRX/raptor competitor then yea, I might bite. But my 05 will be staying with me.

I like that it comes with a lightbar in the grille already.

My “guess” is that we’ll see roughly 410hp/480ftlbs tq out of the 3.5V6 TT mated to an 8 speed. Converting the numbers from the next Aussie Land Cruiser gave me the output specs. My guess at an 8 speed is comparing apples to apples, where the LC currently has an 8 spd to the Tundras 6 spd and seeing there is a 10 speed for the upcoming Aussie LCs.

I work for a large Class 1 RR in the western US, we use a 3rd party contractor for transportation of train crews. This contractor runs exclusively GM Suburban variants and Ford Expeditions in my area of operations.

The GM products are markedly superior in their longevity with many examples I ride in on a regular basis having reached well over 350K miles. Usually not being pulled from service until approaching 450-500K. Now this isn’t to say that they are trouble free, but the items needing repair have not typically deadlined those rigs via expense or shop time.

The Ford products simply don’t last that long, first it was the 5.4L Triton V8 and whatever abomination of a transmission it had. Those lasted maybe 250K, and were being repaired regularly to get there. The new 3.5L EcoBoost Expeditions are better, but still not as durable as the GM cam in block 5.3L V8. I have yet to see an EcoBoost last as long.

Keep in mind this is fleet service, so simple and cheap is all the maintenance the trucks get, and they see a ton of idle time. Plus the quality of drivers is uhhh shall we say “questionable” if I’m generous.

Wow, 15 years for Toyota to bring 410hp? That’s less than 2hp/year of R&D. The story on torque isn’t much better given how much time they’ve had at their disposal.

I hope they blow those numbers out of the water, if not I’ll probably take my money elsewhere.

Is it what I’d like to see? No. But it’s not the worst either.

Each cupholder has a small warmer hockey puck that brings your coffee up to temp as quickly as possible. But each cupholder also has an external trans cooler. The puck and cooler work together to keep your drinks in a specific operating temperature range.

Note: they’ll delete the coolers in 12 years

Nice. I get the criticisms of the large grille, but in this pic, it seems that the shot angle is somewhat from below, so maybe the grille looks bigger than it would if you were standing in front of the truck.

Just looks like the are trying to tie it into the 4runner and Taco styling that has been pretty popular.

The grill shape heavily resembles the Pro 4runner, and the dark spots below the headlights might be some styling vents like what the 4runner has. Love it or hate it, it is bringing it into a more unified design theme for their brand. Not really surprised to see them move this direction. Look at the Lexus designs and how they all look related to one another.

Doesnt really tingle my dingle from that preview but ill wait til I see the full thing. I really dig the 3rd gen styling so this upcoming gen will have its work cutout. Yeah, I even like the fake hood scoop.

I love the preview. Not to disparage the current version, but I like this one a lot better so far. The 4Runners look good and this has a very similar design language. Looking forward to Toyota reliability coupled with all the tech goodies and a muscular design. I'm ready to buy one (in 2023).

Toyota's "tech goodies" are a few years behind, even on all new models. It's just not what they do.

I'm down with that. I think the next gen will catch up with enough "tech goodies" to make it worth my while to get one. My needs are relatively simple: I don't need an integrated generator or trailer weighing device but I don't see any reason they can't offer basic tech currently available on their other vehicles.

479ft/lb of torque.. Yes please. I still hope like hell they bring the diesel over as well, but I know it won't happen. I'd buy a diesel tundra in a heartbeat, especially if they make it a hybrid.

I genuinely hate how toyota calculates it's "Combined" Torque ratings. They aren't reality.
