I can absolutely respect and agree with your game plan. But unfortunately I think the burden of filling up a 5.7 is going to hit many people very hard. And when they start trading these 5.7’s in the dealership are going to be offering near nothing because fuel efficient vehicles will reign...

I had my tacoma for over 10 years. Got 14,500 for it. Better than any other dealer was offering that I talked to. And a good price on a new truck. I’ll probably have it for 10 years or more. I’m not one to keep myself in debt for a vehicle.

I bought a 5.7 because I want that engine and mileage isn’t a concern. I got 15 in my Tacoma. I have a RAV4 as a commuter and an old Toyota pickup for a mtn rig. I won’t put a lot of miles on the new truck. But I don’t disagree. Most people are mindful of fuel efficiency. And mass trading will more than likely drive the resale down. In my mind... there’s no replacement for displacement.

Our other vehicle is a 16 T4R trail. Bought it new and have put a few thousand into lift, tires and appearance. With 60k+ on it now I think I could sell it for 3-4K less than what I paid. When I look at the numbers trading in really isn’t that far off. But I hate dealers too much and I don’t want to put in the effort to get the stance again. We’ll keep it around until it rolls 200k and then move on. Whether it comes to maintenance or buying and selling, I do my best to steer clear of dealers.

Long term wise we are working to keep vehicles paid off. Two of three are paid. The new tundra got a loan but we plan to pay it off early. It’s a privilege we have in our 30s that is rare, and we plan to take advantage of it as much as we can before these kids get too expensive.

fwiw I bought my 2021 Tundra SR5 offroad on Oct 31st 2020, only put 1,797 miles on it, and the dealership not only bought it back, but gave me more than I paid. Was nice (for me) because then I bought the RAM PowerWagon. I'm sure they'll sell my used tundra now for just as much as a new one, if not more! The Toyota dealership near me is so low in tundra stock it's not funny.
