@Diablo169 I won't argue with your experience. I will share mine respectfully.

I have driven an 05 AC and an 06 DC many times, both in stock form and they do feel quicker with the 5 speed keeping them in a better power range. From observing dozens of MPG threads I have not seen a trend of 05 or 06 getting better economy than pre-vvt-i motors. I have done some light towing and hauled very heavy loads of sand and dirt in my 03 without trouble, never had the opportunity to do so in the 05/06 to compare. I'm sure the extra gears help there but doubtful that the extra horses do much unless you are flooring it, those horses show up at higher rpm.

That said my truck runs 4.56 gears and heavy 33s, still has plenty of power for me and gets 19mpg on long trips, 16 or so if a lot of shorter commutes are involved.

Either version of the truck is a win. Just not for $17k with an undercarriage covered in glossy paint.

That shell doubled the value. Just look at that thing. I could live in that.

I tow a lot and the 5 speed was a priority because of noise and comfort more so than power. I also plan to tow a slightly longer heavier load at some point so I wanted any advantage I could get with the 40hp. For the average drive it around truck I would not have cared.

    Two things:

    1) That glossy undercarriage is pure black.

    2) Your truck is black.

Those tall shells are hard to find. Someone building a camping setup would probably find more than $110 in value with that shell. I was being a little sarcastic though.

18K for a old truck with plenty of miles and basic mods. I may be mistaken but I feel like I can do the same with less than 2/3 the price without having the coverup the underbody with sus gloss paint.

You're not wrong, and it would be 100% to your liking to do it that way. I'm not a fan of that bumper, looks like its just tubing bolted to the stock bumper. Wheels are too big/wide as well.
