Been pestering doc about getting some range time under her belt to get comfortable with guns, and increase ability, as well as good gun safety knowledge. I won't always be there and would rather her be prepared and never need it than need it and be unprepared.

Doc HATED guns....never touched one even though her old man had a few, he never thought it prudent to teach her, so took it upon myself with a little persuasion from her uncle, she finally agreed!

We get there, get everything set up, run her through more than a few dry runs for safety and consistency reasons, load the gun and let her rip. She wanted to stop after the first clip, wouldn't let her. After about 20 clips with three guns she was having a helluva time! Wants to go back as soon as we have more time!

Couldn't be more proud of her. First time, she shot a 9mm, then a .40 and finally a .357 revolver.

Aim and recoil anticipation needs some work, but that'll come with practice!

That's awesome! Similar story with my wife. Now, she daily carries (open) a G26 and a Ruger LCP in her purse.

Two funny as hell things happened. She hit the bulls eye on the upper left target, I got excited as hell....then she told me she was aiming for the HEAD, not the smaller target....that ended my excitement LOL :anonymous:

She kept missing. Some bullets didn't even hit the paper! Right off I tell her to stop anticipating the recoil. Tries a couple more...same thing. I ask her to run me through what she does. ENDS up she's only using the barrel tip optic and not the rear two!:rofl::rofl: After I could stop laughing and get a full sentence out to correct her "technique":confused::confused: it got better from then out!

That's awesome. I'm glad she stuck it out and kept shooting, what a different outcome it would have been if she stopped after one mag.

Just learning the proper way to handle a firearm is a great lesson.

Woman didn't have much of a choice, while she was shooting, me and her uncle were scrambling to reload magazines so she wouldn't get a chance to stop!! LOL

Definitely a must have skill set and knowledge base IMO. She would always get nervous whenever I would take my guns out to clean or load up.

When trying to correct friends' form I love sticking a training round or two in their mag. I will tell him there are a few in there and to maintain proper sight picture each time until it goes bang.

It's hilarious to see what they do when they pull the trigger on the training round, barrel will go to their problem area without the bang. "That's your problem!"

Tell her that there is nothing hotter than a pony tail hanging out of a pink hat while blasting up shadow figures painted on paper 20 yards out.

That'll get her to go back! I'm jealous...i wish my (soon to be ex)wife would go shooting with me and actually hold the targets at 50 yards:infantry:

My wife was scared to death of guns as well until I took her shooting. She's ok with them now, but still isn't a huge fan of them. Her mother is absolutely terrified of them and didn't even like the fact that they were kept in the closet of the room they slept in when they came here. I guess she thought they would jump out of their cases and shoot someone.

Yeah....word to the wise....don't yell "BANG" while she's aiming at the target with an empty gun and locked barrel. You won't get none that night or the next :rofl::rofl:

Thanks! I would have to agree with you there. I have a .22 S&W mosquito and had full intentions of introducing her with that, but forgot it at my house when we were heading out. :annoyed:

She did fine with the 9, so no harm no foul!

Reminds me of my better half with the .410 - last fall at the range we finally cleared up why she was missing grouse at 20 yards. :)

That's awesome Law! I wish I could get my girl to go down and shoot but she refuses but she's OK with me taking the kid. She's getting more and more interested though I've got to get a gun that she can handle. It scares the crap out of her.

On a sidenote I've got quite a few friends in law-enforcement and one in particular who is an ICE agent. He was a pretty hard-core army dude and loves anything to do with guns. He told me if I called it a "clip" one more time he was going to punch me in the face LOL it's a "magazine"! Told me I watch too many movies LMFAO! Fine! "MAGAZINE" motherf-er.

Not at first - since the three grouse she missed were the only game we had a chance of bagging on a 500 mile trip (one way) for a moose hunt. My own fault - I never schooled her in the ways of shooting a shotgun before hand, partly since it just seemed natural to me.

I'd go with a .22 pistol. Have a S&W mosquito I was going to use, but forgot it. Doc did fine with a 9...whew LOL
You ever get your lady to the range, it'll definitely be a proud moment!

    Huh....okay then. How about "mag"??

Aww crap! That would've pissed me off!
I hear you on the natural part. It took me a good three or four mags before I had an inkling of what was going on. Even shot a few times to make sure the sights weren't off.

I'm more surprised at the fact that she agreed to go on a hunt with you! My wife WILL NOT go hunting with me. She freaks out easily, so absolutely NO walking or camping in the woods after dark without electricity or underground plumbing and she can't stomach the thought of killing Bambi. Doesn't mind eating it after I skin and clean it though LOL

The hunting thing has been a work in progress the last few years - I suggested it long before, but then she decided about 3 years ago she was going to take the safety courses to get licensed. She did get a doe two years ago, a month after that moose hunt, where we had our boys along (5 and 7 at the time) but isn't sure she wants to continue. It didn't help that it wasn't a very quick, clean kill, which I blame myself for. Time will tell.

She does like the outdoors though, camping, fishing, all acceptable and at least somewhat enjoyable to her.

Even I hate the messy kills. Thankfully it doesn't happen often, but sights can be off, deer moves at the last minute, right slips just a little, shit happens. That's why I always immediately eject the bullet and aim again as fast as possible.
Hopefully it didn't affect her too much!

Doc loves hiking, kayaking, all that...just not at night LOL always fun to do that with the wife though!!
