The 2-2.5% raises aren’t keeping up. Every year my work expects more from me and I only feel like I’m getting a pay cut. :annoyed:

This is the boat I'm in. I've been with my current employer for ten years now. After the first five, my annual salary doubled from when I first hired. The most recent five years, it has only gone up about 2% per year, and I absolutely feel like I'm falling behind.

I'm in the South Bay area, Fremont/San Jose commute, Costco isn't always available and neither are local gas stations as they're shut down after 9:30 10pm..

Yeah Costco is a bummer since the pumps are not 24hrs, but GENERALLY cheaper than other places. Bay deff has higher prices in general too :/

In my experience, you'll only get a significant raise when you leave your current company and go to a new one. I'm making quite a bit more than the guy on my team doing the exact same job. He has been here 10 years and I've been here a year. The first corporation I worked for was the same way. I got 3 promotions in 3 years but only increased my salary by around $6,000. Anyone who left that company to do similar jobs got substantial raises.

TLDR- if you can find a similar job with someone else you might make a lot more.

This applies to my industry as well. The guys who change jobs every few years earn way more to do the same thing as longtime employees.

Yeah my norm work hours are 6am-3pm, so I would leave the house by 520am.. couldnt get Costco before work.. so I always tried to play my tank to have enough to get me back into town and fill up then haha.

Literally have 2 other gas stations a half mile from the house, but like you said, Costco is always a good bit cheaper.

That begs the question, why stay? You may have personal reasons to stay but loyalty shouldn't be on that list. Most companies, especially corporations, will drop people for no reason. My company just beat our expected earnings for 2020 and we still laid a bunch of great employees off earlier this year. Some of them had been here over a decade.

This is the same at my office and it drives me crazy. My wife just got a new job within the same company, the starting salary was $12k more than her current pay. Since she is an internal hire they only offered her a $9k raise, which is still great but thats sad that they would pay a higher wage to a stranger than to a known performer with experience. If I ever take over the company I will end that shit immediately.

It's a great question, and one to which there isn't really a justifiable answer. My employer has similarly laid off good people who had several years with the company, while keeping shorter-tenured underperformers on staff. I am actively looking for work elsewhere, and will leave as soon as I receive a good offer from another employer.

There was almost a riot at the Petrol Station at lunch time. People lining up deep.

Premium and Mid sold out and only Regular left. Two people I didn’t know actually talked with me while we were waiting and mentioned things we can’t talk about here. I was shocked because for over a year everyones been walking around like Zombies that can’t muster up a simple hello.

One guy in line behind me says, ‘This reminds me of the 1970’s!’. He explains, ‘that someone wants $50M to give the computer keys back.’

I said, ‘Don’t they have a manual valve they can open?’.

    His look o_O

Money flooded into my business like never before. Gas was as low/stable as I had ever seen it for an extended period. USA became the Worlds Exporter in forever. I’d like to see this again with us having sub $2 gas and it didn’t matter if someone overseas farted and made a Refinery over there go down temporarily which caused a spike here from the Wall Street Vultures looking to clean up.

Nice when the Gas is made and refined here. More Earth Conscious and safer, too.

I am very fortunate, my boss takes really go care of me. I have been with the company almost 14 years and started as an intern in college, now a senior project manager. I have been getting 10% raises for the past couple years. I did job hunt in 2019 with several other firms, and no one would pay close to what I was making at the time. Had a couple firms tell me they don't pay their licensed architects as much as I was asking for...I was only asking for my same salary and benefits. I have friends at other firms in similar positions as me and I make 20% or more. Yes there were years where I got the more typical 3-5% cost of living raise.

As for the topic of inflation, I just saw a stock 2014 bronze 1794, like mine, with almost 100k miles asking more that what I paid for mine in 2016 when it was only 2 years old.

Its not a good sign for inflation when houses in my neighborhood are selling in 2 days for way more than the 07 bubble. People know, the price and interest rates will be exploding when the dollar collapses

normally when unemployment is horrendous and gdp isn’t growing, the market isnt this hot

It doesn't. But the fun factor more than makes up for it. And if you wreck and die gas prices are no longer a concern.

I looked last weekend and it seems like I couldn't find many complete four wheelers for under $2500. Yeah it's spring, but it seemed like the prices started at $2500 for basically an old junker that runs and only went up $500 for something decent. Kids four wheeler prices seemed higher than usual too. 2005-2010 Chinese kids ATVs for around $700, which is about what they cost new. Seems like the "in working order, but in need of cosmetic repair" $300-400 kids ATV is long gone.

This is the Point, GrassHopper. Its not to make sense. Everything is subjective in Post Modernism. We all become One and One become All. Today I will be a Tree and tomorrow a Unicarn.
