We are coming up on 21 years. Dated ~7 years before that and knew her maybe another ~5 before we started dating.

I just do all the cooking and cleaning/dishes on Mother’s Day. Gifts are a waste of time. I tried to buy her a $175 bottle of scotch this afternoon but she wasn’t having it. Seemed fair, especially since a pair of Apple AirPods fell into the Costco shopping cart last night (for me).

About 10 years ago I stopped at a local drug store on my way home to get her a Valentines Day card. Since it was last minute, the card rack was nearly empty. There were 4-5 other guys there just digging through the remaining stock and the atmosphere was a strange mix of hostility and despair. I went home and told her I’ll get her flowers and other nice things randomly throughout the year, but I’ll never do that BS holiday again. So yeah…the big days are not celebrated anymore, but we still celebrate being together.

 

Probably an appetizer before the sushi. If raw fish gets you, check out some of the stranger stuff they eat in Japan that isn't allowed in the US. They eat raw chicken over there.

Life goals, man. If somebody is special, I don't need a holiday or a mark on the calendar to let them know it. It's done with actions throughout the year. It's more fun and means more when it's random and spontaneous.

Noice. I found some Prime filet mignon that looked almost like Kobe at Costco last night. Made ‘em happy in a cast iron with half a stick of butter.

 

I agree on this one. Texture would prevent me from being able to eat this, even if it was perfectly clean and healthy.

You've been to Japan?

 

Yeah, in 2019. Was completely amazing. Lucked out and was able to hook up with our regional marketing guy there. He took us to some amazing spots. Knowing their food safety is top-notch, I was in full "bring it on" mode. My coworkers were less excited...it was fun to watch their expressions.

 

That's awesome! Japan is the one place outside the US I really really would like to go. I would have no worries about food safety, for the same reason you state, but I would be scared of being utterly unable to eat something. It's considered very rude to not eat food given to you, even if it's awful. See video.

There's plenty of food to eat everywhere that's cooked and not unlike what we eat here in the US. I've traveled lots of places where you cannot eat most of the food even in the hotel due to poor food safety regulations. Japan was heaven.

You are really anti sushi. I am curious. Maybe I asked before and forgot, but have you tried it or is the very idea so repulsive that you couldn't?
