Just paid the final $7,700 this morning on my 2018 Tundra to complete our journey to being 100% debt-free! $73,000 (truck and stupid) in 20 months. Not an infomercial, but if you want to know how you can do it using delayed gratification and discipline, check out Dave Ramsey.

Now… gotta find a rooftop tent for that Southwest family camping trip later this year. Any suggestions on overlanding tents?

a lot of missed opportunity, too, because “my” money wasn’t mine, it was the bank’s. Better to wise up late than never at all, I suppose.

    Congratulations....it's a great feeling!

I don't know who Dave Ramsay and don't need to even need to look him up. I see him mentioned here a lot with regards to debt. If he can get people to be wise with they money great.

It really is quite simple though.....stop overspending and pay off CC's monthly. You'll be debt free or even better you'll never get into debt in the first place. That and I also tithe 10%+ (always have and always will).

yep, the first budget item is tithe—God doesn’t need my money, but I need to have correct priorities and need to know/experience regularly from Whom all good things come.

I have been debt free several times but then I start frequenting the forums again and guess what, more debt. This forum has been specifically hard and heavy on my credit card. I have no regrets but now can't wait to be debt free again so I can turn around and buy some suspension and sliders. :p:D

I like the Ikamper type tents for the bed. Semi rigid so doesn't flop in the wind
If ground tent, the Gazelle are nice.

Great job. It does feel great to cross that threshold.

And thanks for the reminder, I need to send in a check for my church’s annual recommitment.

nope—just the principles and the goal. I do remember his comment on folks arguing that they should pay off the highest rate debt first because it was smarter to eliminate the greatest negative return and then whittle down to the lowest interest rate; his comment was, “If you’re so smart financially, how’d you wind up in this mess?”

    Snowball works.

    Other methods work.

Important part: be a slave to no lender.

This is a good resource that follows the debt snowball and debt avalanche concepts. Plug in your debts, interest rate, and min monthly payment and it’ll show you which to attack each month and give you a light at the end. We’re going the debt avalanche route.

I've been slowly chipping away at my debt over the past 3 year. But I did have to buy a new vehicle (i.e. the Tundra) a year ago. But it will be paid off some time this year. And I will be completely debt free plus some money in the bank. And then going to purchase some land and build a house so going to be going back in debt. Its a vicious cycle

Encouraging. In 2011 we joined the debt free party and haven’t looked back. Cash for everything, vacation 3-4 times a year, buy what we want, save 15% and give. So good.

Very cool! Well done sticking to the plan and getting it done! I've gone debt free a couple times, and it's always refreshing. I think I'm finally old enough and have enough brain cells to push out of debt quickly this time, and stay that way until a home is in the works. I don't think I really want to have payments for vehicles again... That's why I bought a Tundra. It should outlive me!

Dude! That's awesome. Just being able to visualize it, and see a light at the end of the tunnel can be such a huge help for people.
