4runners run their hi beams at 50% for the daytime running lights

 

Wow. This guy was about 300 yards away when I can around the corner into the straight away on a 35 mph two lane road. Pierced my eyes at 300 yards.

 

Let me just move this to the right area.......

Bought a baja designs light harness splitter second hand for cheap to cut up, and see how they stripped the wires back.

Looks like they use @FrenchToasty's muyi connectors which is good news.



Looks to me like they halfed the 14 AWG wire, and crimped a brass terminal over the joint.

Heat shrink over the crimp. I don't know about it. What do you guys think? Crimp or solder for this? Crimp is certainly easier, but I don't have any kind of Crimp terminals like that.

Any idea where I can get a crimp terminal like that?

Bought it 2nd hand for ideas on making my own custom length splitter harness for stuff in the future. Wanted to see how the pros do it.

 

Solder isn't a bad choice. Automotive stuff is crimped for 2 major reasons 1 is automation, 2 is vibration. Solder even done well will make the connection brittle compared to crimping.

Guess I could use a bigger butt connector with a layer of heat shrink over it.

I tag anybody that has helped me with my repairs or upgrades in the build thread. It might be annoying to them, but almost nothing is solely my own. #Honesty.

 

Replaced the Sequoia rear door checks with oem a couple years ago, still holding strong. Despite my kids relentless testing. Might invest in those hinge reinforcement plates.

Yeah. You have always been good about attributing credit where its due. I changed my build title last month because I was getting confused seeing the other one.

 

@theblurry1 sent me his old door checks to try and rebuild. I tried, but its not worth the effort if even possible at all. They aren’t rebuildable like some of the others out there. One and done.

I looked at the flex points on our doors a while ago and noticed the main stress point is on the other side (main body jamb) and not on the door itself where those cute little door thingys go that someone is selling. Good idea, but maybe works on another vehicle?

Check out the door action as it might be different action on your truck and may not need.

Yeah, the material reminded me of abs plastic almost iirc. Would be tough to rebuild.

Very common. 4runner/ Tacoma guys are almost as bad as dodge guys when it comes to blinding people.

 

Unless they are running LED hid conversions that make drl full power on high beam or drl mode. That's the way our Lexus is, but you can then switch the drl off and just use your laser beams for brights only.

 

These felt like lasers. Not cool.

 

No, I teach them that the impact especially the big bertha Milwaukee is not the way to properly tighten lugs. I show them to tighten the lugs just snug enough, drop the vehicle then torque, but if its on the side of the road I told them to make it german tight.

 

Buddy of mine just bought an older Volvo wagon a few weeks ago to drive to CO. He apparently didn't catch the fact that it had engine oil sludge until after he bought it. He thought it would be fine until he made it to CO.

When I got my truck, mine were completely shot, like they weren’t even there. After seeing the price of oem’s, and unable to find any aftermarkets, I pulled mine to self educate on how they are actually meant to work as well as what was causing them to fail. I considered building up the worn ‘points’ with epoxy or a custom fabbed steel plate inside. Anyways, to make a long story short, I ended up putting them in a bench vice, and compacting them down to being tight again and working like new. Took a couple reinstalls just because I didn’t want to overdo it, but it worked, surprisingly, and a year later, they’re still workin great. Who knew?

Looks like Headers are scheduled for delivery on the porch by sometime tonight. Just about all ordered tools/other parts are on Hand. Looking to have the job done by next weekend if all goes well.
