Hello everyone! I live in Montana and we are finally getting some spring weather. Naturally I rolled down the windows to enjoy the weather... and thats when I noticed a chirping/squealing noise. Its relatively quiet, can only hear it when the window are down, and I can only hear it when accelerating while in drive. It does not make the noise when I let off the gas peddle. I parked the truck, revved the engine a few time and didn't hear anything.

Have any of you experienced this before? It almost sounds like its coming from the rear. I'm just wondering if this is the beginning signs of a possible failing rear diff, or maybe some yoke bearings going bad?

I know this is pretty vague, but I was hoping that some of you might have had this problem before I dig into it. Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers!

If it's fair to characterize the sound you hear as whistling, versus chirping, then there are other threads on here that have discussed this "faint whistling sound during hard acceleration".

I heard a Chirp the other day. Got out and it was three little birds on my door step telling me to not worry about a thing and stay home and work on my truck.

I would possible consider it a whistling noise. I took it to the mechanic the other day for some other stuff and a check up and they said they couldn't look at the tranny fluid because i have a rust coating on the truck. Im planning on checking the tranny fluid tomorrow. I have only heard it at low speeds. Ill keep you all updated. Thanks for all the hints.

Sounds like a u-joint to me. Chock the wheels, shift to neutral (engine off) and shake the driveshaft at each joint to see if any have play in the u-joints. Also inspect for any rust streaking between the u-joint cross and caps.

Still makes no sense as to why the transmission fluid can’t be checked. Not that I suspect a transmission issue.

    My guess is:
    1. You selected a very bad mechanic
    2. Some DIY'er thought it would be a good idea to spray undercoat on the transmission pan
    3. Same Diy'er sprayed bed liner as undercoat
    4. Mechanic was lazy, couldn't find the dipstick and didn't feel like messing with it, then having to argue with the owner why he charged 1hr shop labor to heat the fluid to Toyota spec just to check with Toyota's dumbazz drip hole
