glad to see we're recognizing this is a result of the fed printing money at an insane rate. Its a massive pickle though, because if they raise rates, the dollar will be destroyed; and keeping artificially low interest rates isn't sustainable either. I would respectfully disagree with the previous poster who said having cash would be beneficial (though perhaps short term). Land, physical metals (gold/silver), and crypto are the winning hands in that scenario. Different governments and central banks have been floating the idea of a "new" digital dollar the last few years and made feeble attempts that were rejected by the public in comparison to decentralized options.

I would say a strategic response to a failing dollar is to accumulate debt based assets as far an your income would realistically allow; buuuuut I'm not sure how debts in a worthless currency would be handled, or if there are clauses in the fine print of loans that give banks/fed the right to seize the property in such a case, giving you the worthless currency in exchange.

Don't mean to derail to economics too far, I just worry about the state of things in the currents shitshow years. But ya, carvana is great. plug in your license plate# on their site and answer a few questions, and an estimate will pop up. The estimate is literally what you'll recieve as long as your answers are moderately accurate.

Noun; a machine, usually with wheels and an engine, used for transporting people or goods, especially on land
I’ve seen that game played. I’ve been watching some of these smaller lots advertise 1st gens for $20-25k and I hardly ever see them sale. Most likely market manipulation.
That’s why I said I don’t know if they actually have them on the lot. Beaverton says (10) and Gresham (11) those have the most advertised. The other 8 dealers I looked at have 2-5 new Tundras advertised. There are 160 new and used Tundras advertised on Cargurus within 100 miles of PDX. Not all are a good deal but there are a few out there right now if someone is a serious buyer.
The ask price can be whatever but that doesn’t mean they are getting those prices. If there isn’t someone willing to pay that price it will sit. I’ve seen some sit for 6+ months recently on the smaller lots that are asking inflated prices. There is still a 2005 DC limited Tundra for sale in Gladstone. They want $20k for it with 134k miles it’s been advertised for sale for 3 months it started out at $18k and they have raised the price in the last month $2k. I guess they don’t like moving vehicle and making money. :notsure:

I just checked a couple of sites and saw no great increase in value for my recently purchased SR5 Crewmax. Please let me know where to look. Thanks

My brother in law is a salesman at the local Toyota dealership. He sold exactly 40 Toyotas last month. He did have a slow period when COVID first hit last year but he's made bank every month otherwise. He says he doesn't sell as many Tundras and Tacomas as he does other models now.

    It's a pickle for sure.....

I can't see things continue at the rate they are our home has doubled in price over a 18 month period. The land I purchased for a long term investment and it increased x3 times what I paided in a very short time feeling these prices can't continue I just sold out to invest in something else. If things do get tough having assess to some cash you can at least buy back in when the property drops. A few % Interest rate increase will wipe out many that have huge debts to service if this happens housing/land and big ticket items will fall from there current high.
Who am I to say hopefully it doesn't happen ... I feel it safe to say that having everything payed off and no payments will put you in a better position.

Planning to keep my tundra Long enough that I don't have to pay what they are asking at the present time!!

Again - it’s a lot if economic smoke and mirrors right now.

That said - our current low interest rate economy beats the hell out of a few other nations with NEGATiVE rates (literally paying borrowers to take money).

Of course Joe Schmoe ain’t getting negative interest on his car note or mortgage - but that’s what our macro economy is competing against world wide. Toss in China and it’s artificial currency manipulation and guess what - it could be worse.

I suspect we stay low for another 3 years (relatively) - yes rates will rise, but not to pre 2007 levels and certainly not late 70s-early 80s levels. Temporarily though everyone is on buy mode - hey my 401k doubled - now I can afford that class A motor coach to travel the country and retire….oh wait - no one wants to fill my job as unemployment pays almost the same?!?

Should mention - this is not exactly new or COVID attributed either.

The last 7 or so years in mid/heavy equipment it’s been happening. I bought a utility tractor about 6 years ago - got a deal and 0% interest. Paid it off recently - thought about upgrading - dealer offered me more than I paid new. Of course the “upgrade” is gonna cost me double what I originally paid - so you tell me how well I would make out. It would cost me as much as my original purchase to upgrade and I lose a well kept relatively new machine for a slight upgrade in power. I’ll pass and keep what I have - might take me 30% longer - but it will save me $$.

Just ran my 2017 on kbb for kicks and private value is almost 5k more than what I paid in October as a cpo. 2k more than I paid for trade in value.

Cash is King, but Cash Flow is Critical.

A business is pretty much dead if there is no inventory to sell.

What were your results? Not worth selling to me right now. Would be ahead if I did, but till taxes, fees, and the extended warranty I purchased were added on, it wouldn't be the 5k difference. Good to see it appreciated though. Haha

My Carvana offer on my 2 week old 2021 is $3000 more than my OTD price which includes TTL. It’s > $5000 the base price I paid.

I think is the psychology tactic that when something is going up in value, it may keep going up therefore the need to buy and that what you need will be unattainable someday.

But reality, probably a want more than need. like marketing ads… “the ultimate driving machine”…

Hmm, maybe its a location thing. Or maybe you overpaid when you bought it. Im also going by the average private party value. If I go by the upper price, its about 7k more than I paid, minus tax, fees, and warranty. Either way, ahead of the game. Took me too long to find what I wanted to go and sell now. Drove 5.5 hours to get this one.I can only imagine if I were shopping for another now.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
I don’t know that it’s all due to shortages and cost of specific parts. I think this is an after effect of the pandemic.
Prices of new vehicles outpaced consumer inflation by significant margins over the past year. In turn, would be new car buyers were priced out of that market and turned to used vehicles.
Simple law of supply and demand.

IMO, it’s a bubble that will pop. If it works for you, I’d say jump!

Like others have said, I love my rig too much...not to mention the time, blood and $ in all the mods. Any profit I could make would go right back into redoing mods...not something I’m interested in anytime soon.

They would have to make a really awesome offer on my Tundra to get me to sell/trade. I don't see new double cabs available anywhere nearby. They are all crewmax. 5.5' bed is just to short for my needs, thought it is great for others. While every dealership around me has a couple SR5 crewmax listed, there are no double cabs.

I am keeping mine, but it is so tempting to sell. I bought mine in 2016 and it was 2 years old. Was just offered $6K less than I bough it for in 2016. If I were to take it, it means I would have owned the truck for 5 years, put 87,000 miles on it for $6k. Not bad.

Wish I didn't need the truck so much, could sell it and then wait 12 months or when the bottom dropped out and get a much newer model.
