I have/had a hankering for a lunar rock or white trd pro.

just got cold water thrown over that one. In my area those are going above mark now for the first time ever.

    Oh well.

The semiconductor shortage is interesting. When COVID hit, auto manufacturers thought no one would want cars and the rental agencies started dumping their cars since there was no rental demand saturating the used market. Therefore, the auto manufacturers stopped their semi orders for components. At the same time, there was a huge increase in consumer semi demand for computers, monitors, etc. for all of the people working from home. What the auto industry didn't expect was that no one wanted to take public transportation due to the virus. Therefore, auto sales were stronger than expected. When the auto industry then wanted to then increase their demand, the capacity had been gobbled up by the consumer demand and on top of that, there was a hole in the supply from when the auto industry cut their procurement. It is a triple whammy: higher demand, stopped supply, and limited capacity.

Cash for Clunkers 2.0 ?, many stimulus checks were reportedly used to purchase used vehicles.

I just went to multiple Toyota dealers web sites around the portland metro area and there seems to be plenty of options to buy a new Tundra. There is even a 2006 DC SR5 with 78k miles 2 owner local trade for $20k at a Honda dealer. I see 2007-2010 Tundras with 100-200k miles for $15-20k pop up all the time on CL and FB around me. Lots of people are still unemployed and have to sale due to other bills building up.
This isn’t going to last so if anyone is wanting to make money on a newer truck and can I would try to do it now.

PSA: Know your states laws when it comes to buying and selling a vehicle and how many you can do in a year. Most won’t allow you to do it even once if you’re doing it with the intent to make profit, you’ll need a dealers license. If your doing it because you don’t like the truck and want to sell it to buy another one you like and you happen to make money on the deal that’s another story. Know your story and stick to it :spy:

There is even a Pro listed at one of them. Whether it’s actually on the lot :notsure:

    Exactly!

Wait until the same government forces the rental companies to restock there stables with electric cars made in China... there are many ways for a government to force change, especially when they are spending other peoples money.

You are correct. For Toyota I guess it is a quadruple whammy since Renasas is a major semi supplier to Toyota and other Japanese auto makers.

Side Bar >>>>The main root cause of the chip shortage for the auto industry is in Japan as previously noted. A major IC manufacturing plant was nearly wiped out by a fire. It takes some time to rebuild, retool, and get production going. Having been in numerous chip facilities performing calibrations over the years I've seen up close how complex the chip manufacturing process is. It's going to be awhile before production ramps up. We used to have a boatload of IC manufacturers here. Not the case at all any more. Most of the remaining IC manufacturers here make unique Hybrid IC's for military use and for highly specialized commercial use items that can't be exported. We don't use Chinese sourced IC's for that.:rocket:

I sold my 2021 Tundra TSS package two weeks ago and also made money on. I turned right around and purchased a 2021 TRD Pro. Very crazy times.

These are very strange times!!! Inventory is low seems like everything is selling and for more than it should houses/cars/boats....I am trying to buy a new dump trailer for our business and they are sold out will be sept/October delivery and cost about 25% more than last year and it's not at all a chip problem for these.

Customer of mine who works in the banking and investment world mentioned we are going to see inflation likely running really high in the future witch will stretch many people's finances.... along with possible higher interest.

Could be some great deals in the near future for those who still have cash !!!

I drove by my local Yota dealer last Sunday. Plenty of tacos but only one used enchilada white tunny. Prolly sold already.

It’s not often I say this - but I ALMOST feel sorry for car salespeople.

Imagine sitting on your ass a few decades, serving the Great Recession/COVID and all the other downturns - only to reach a day where you have people literally throwing money at you demanding new cars - and you got nothing to sell them!!

Worse yet - your commission is per unit - not gross profit..so even when management jacks the price of a unit up 10k for a “market adjustment” you get paid the exact same as you made selling it 8k below sticker! Meanwhile you gotta still talk people into overpaying for a car.

Just curious if you guys are factoring in sales tax and registration. I bought a 2020 LTD Crewmax off-road in Calvary blue for $46k in March. For giggles I dumped it into Carvana and got a bid back of $49k. That is $3k more than what I paid, but it doesn’t offset my California tax and license fees of $4,500... not that I really care because I’m not selling it. But all too often people forget to factor in the sunk costs.

I buy from a fleet manager and he has made a considerable amount in the last 12 months, last 3 more than he has ever seen-been in the business for 30 years. The veterans have saved the extra they have made to make it through the lean months when the inventory is gone.

If you trade in to Carvana and get another vehicle from them there is a fairly large tax offset here in CO depending on the "new" vehicle's value. I'm not inclined to sell high and buy higher.......

Well - CA fees and taxes are of course amongst the highest - some states have 0 sales tax…most are around 5-8%.

My personal opinion - no, a lot of guys posting their “paid” and “offer” prices omit taxes and accessories added when they post. It’s human nature - just like the people who “win” on scratch off tickets - they hit $500 and say “I won $500” - forgetting to mention the $800 they dropped in the preceding week on losing scratchers.

It’s scary how many Rams are selling - and selling at near sticker around here!

I was tempted - but no way am I paying more for a Ram over a comparable Toyota…0% interest be damned.

I gotta question where resale will be in 3-5 years on all these Rams. I think they would have done ok - if not for a bumper crop about to hit lots when owners get bored with their 2021/2022s or payment fatigue sets in and people get tired of paying $800 a month for a 3 year old truck with another 3 or 4 years still in the payment book.

As bad as it is - TRX buyers are gonna be crushed I suspect.

I definitely suspect demand in the US is higher, but here I anticipate a loss of 10-12% after totalling factory accessories, aftermarket accessories, 6 years of ECP and taxes paid. Which is definitely better than the 15-20% loss I would otherwise expect locally, but nothing like these Carvana numbers. I hope anyone who sells is killing it, though!

This is interesting. I just purchased a new RZR and all of the local Polaris dealers did this same thing. I actually had to call or go to the dealership to find out they did not actually have that inventory. They would show "stock #'s" but once you contacted them they would simply say "that sold" & then tell me how to set a pre-order up. Not saying that is what is going on in OR but it is a game dealerships are playing. I have to believe there are dealerships that have inventory. I can certainly tell you they don't where I live.

If you don't physically see it assume they don't have it. Most listings are for being built or in transit if lucky.
