Here is the rear with all the total chaos bars. I also put KDSS sway bar spacers so it would clear. And I put full Rci skids 17C56467-A59B-445C-B155-175AA5DE4981.jpg42ED10F1-70FC-42FB-901E-77D48F5A35CE.jpgFB18B955-E0A2-4CBF-888D-7CE97BE3D7E5.jpg FD6BD92F-223D-4740-8CD1-F01E254BA992.jpg

It’s been fun customizing the rig. Lots of work. But I’m glad it’s almost complete. I’m done with my tundra and almost done with this rig. Thankfully. Here is a shot of all my yotas. C23DADA2-05B9-41CF-A44B-7798D9C7869F.jpg

Those items are on my to do list also..

Balancing between my Tundra and Mongo (my 460) has slowed some things down.

I hear ya. Luckily I’ve had the tundra the way I want it for a while now. Which helped me concentrate on the GX. Parts aren’t cheap. Then finding time to install them, since I refuse to pay anyone to install parts I can do myself. That’s why I buy the expensive parts since I’ll save all the money from the install if I paid someone to do it. Well.... that’s how I justify it to the wife.

I want a 38 gal fuel tank, better head and fog lights, head unit and tonneau cover. I already did my rear leaf springs and PRO Cote in the bed.

I would love the 38 gallon tank as well, but I just carry two wavian Jerry cans. Even if I had the 38 gallon tank the wife makes me stop to go to the bathroom so often that it wouldn’t really change anything. I need to switch my headlights too. I want the amber DRL morimotos, but they’re too expensive so I’ll live with my retrofitted stocks for now. What leafs did you go with?

I have the Dakars, been really happy with them. I usually stop every 3 or 4 hours also. I just want to be able to stop and stretch. Not get gas at every stop. Then again I suppose it doesn't matter. Because of OCD I always fuel up at a half tank. Having a 38 gallon tank will be nice.
For the headlights I am going to replace the bulbs with LEDs, once I figure out which ones to get.

I’m the same way about the gas tank being low and not needing it, but still fill up. You just never know on a road trip.

So I finally took the GX out for a nice road trip and a few off-road trails. We drove a total of 3107 miles on the trip. No issues thankfully. Was the maiden voyage for it after everything I’ve done to it. Went to Rainbow basin in Barstow, then Joshua tree NP, then drove thru Tonto national forest to get to Flagstaff, then to painted desert/Petrified Forest NP, then to Grand Canyon NP, then horse shoe bend, then went to Zion NP, messed up and passed Bryce cause my brother was navigating in front of us so we went to grand staircase, then to Capitol Reef NP, then onto Arches NP and some lite wheeling in Moab. Saw a lot in a week. Trip was exhausting, but worth it. Here are the pics of the GX coming down baby lions back in Moab. 436E8FD1-2667-40DB-B1D2-D12F00CD5AD8.jpg38A49D2A-8F08-4D0F-816C-8D689303F231.jpg2934099D-1E66-4DDD-A93F-9C768241FF36.jpgA4F03185-23AC-4B52-B0CE-B0DE7AF8D25B.jpgF81BB840-CCD4-41B1-BC72-01E04D6CEFD2.jpg6B99DABF-ADB0-403B-AB20-E2C8CDFA7E6E.jpg

I'm ordering my KDSS spacers and Rokmen rear upper and lower control arms and track bar this week. I'm also going to sneak in the MTS module

Very nice. So a bit of bad news on my end. Went to change oil this morning and sure enough there were multiple oil spots. First thing I did was did my finger in it to smell it. Sure enough it was diff fluid. Can’t mistake that smell. Looked under the GX and oil everywhere. I tried my front locker just to check it and the compressor kept on cycling every 2 seconds. Dropped the skid and the fitting was loose. Tried the locker again and no cycling besides to activate it. The Teflon tape on the fitting that goes into the diff turned yellow from the oil. Not sure if it was leaking from the fitting or somewhere else. My brother told me to check where the diff and yolk meet. Doesn’t seem like it. Can the fitting being a little loose cause leaks like that? Here is what I found on my skids when I removed them.

Dude, that sucks. I can't give an accurate or honest answer because I never ran air lockers. From the leaks that I have heard or read about have been internal. Pinched copper line, or a separation where the copper line goes into the fitting on the locker. Maybe there is a leak on the inside causing pressure to build and it was forced out of the location you are talking about? Sorry I am not much help on that one.

No worries. I cleaned everything and I’m waiting to see where it leaks from. Good times. I’m just glad I made it home without the front diff breaking. I’m going to drain and fill the diff to see how much leaked out and see if there is any metal shavings.

Hopefully it was just the loose external fitting and nothing else or at least a simple fix.
When my baby boy comes home in late June we have plans on hitting a couple of places here with a couple of buddies.

At least you don’t have to go far to go wheeling. I live in the Bay Area and closet decent wheeling is like 5-8 hours away. Tahoe or down south. Nothing in the Bay Area.

So I drained the front diff and only 1 quart came out when it’s supposed to be 1.48. This is the third diff change since the new gears. I looked inside the drain hole and the gears that I can see look ok. It drove fine the entire way home. DEE08266-F123-4AE4-9BB1-046017400E3E.jpgAEB9650B-6D52-48CB-9F71-E710B5E2290F.jpg

Thats one of the reasons we love it here. We can be in the mountains and trails within about an hour or so.

That was one hell of a shake down run!!!

Bummer on the front diff. That kind of crap gets old real quick. I may have missed it, but have you been doing the gear sets?

To answer your question, no I didn’t do the gears. It sucks cause this is one thing I have yet to learn how to do. I will learn how to do gears myself one day. I’m going to try and replace my arb locker’s seal housing when I get some free time in my tundras rear end. Only going to try it myself cause it’s been replaced two times from two separate shops and the second one got hit by the ring gear as usual and no longer works, again. I’d rather fix it myself cause I know I’ll put more care and time into it than anyone else to make sure it’s done correctly. Everything else that I’ve done to either of my vehicles hasn’t had issues so far. I make sure to torque everything correctly according to the service manual I use online. Then after the first time I do any install I drive it around for a few days and retorque everything again just to be safe. Then before every long trip or off-road trip I retorque all suspension parts and wheels, just in case.

The shop that did the work warrantied the work and checked the gears and said the gears were ok and couldn’t find a reason why the gears were leaking from the seal. They ended up just replacing the seal and so far so good. Only time will tell. I’m just glad it’s fixed.

As for the trip. Ya it was quite a journey. It’s the second time I’ve made that trip, but the first time I did it with my tundra and was a three week journey that started off at Yellowstone national park and worked my way down to all the other parks mentioned except for Joshua tree. I also went to Toquerville falls and after the petrified forest national park we drove all the way to Miami to visit my family. Then drove all the way back to the Bay Area. That trip was 7500 miles long.

Quick question for anyone that can answer. So I am looking to buy my winch for the GX and was wondering what would you do. I believe the warn zeon 10s and warn zeon 12s are the same size physically(could be wrong, need to verify) and since I’m all armored up and weighed down with bigger tires and what not. Should I do the 12s or 10s? When I do go wheeling, almost all of the people I go with will be in full size vehicles too. So if I need to help them out a 12 is better obviously. But interested in seeing what the consensus on this would be.

To be honest, you could get by with anything if you have enough snatch blocks. If you are stuck to a point of needing a 12k winch, you will want to connect to multiple points on your vehicle anyway to reduce the forces.
That said, I would go 12k, 3-4 snatch blocks, 3 8ft tree savers, 30 ft kinetic rope, 30ft tow strap, 150ft extension, 4 soft shackles, 4 steel shackles, etc, etc, etc. :anonymous:

Well I already have all the other stuff mentioned since it’s with all my recovery gear bin when I go out with my tundra so I just need the winch. I was leaning more towards the 12k either way, but I’m no winch expert so was just curious what people would recommend. I’ve only had to winch someone out once on a trail. So not much experience with them. But I do know how to use it safely. Thanks for the response.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted to my build thread. Nothing much has changed except I installed a KDSS kill switch so I can turn it off and on as I please. Which will be great off road.

I’m having an issue with the front differential pinion seal leaking after the 4.88s and locker install. So far two seals have failed in less than a year. It takes a couple months for it to start leaking then it’s over. So hopefully third time is a charm. This time I bought all oem parts to replace the ones that came with the nitro package just in case something is wrong inside and I asked the shop to replace the pinion bearing crush sleeve as it’s not supposed to be taken off and retightened more than twice from what I gather from this. Is this the cause? Doubt it. I’m hoping the oem pinion seal will fix the issue. Anyone have any idea why something like this keeps happening? The GX drives great and no issues with the locker and no vibrations so I’m at a loss. At least the shop is fixing it again on their dime labor wise so that’s cool that they are trying to rectify the issue. Going to Death Valley in march and can’t have that shit leaking in the middle of nowhere.697176BF-2E45-40D4-9396-070E1FF37FE9.jpg042AE560-190C-4F03-8078-4116B0904A90.jpg
