As mentioned earlier, keep an eye on your Bump Stops as you are getting loaded. Once they are about 1” off the Frame equals about 1200lbs which equals time to stop loading. Its real easy and nothing scientific. My springs are the OEM with some of tow/haul and and they still have a good rake (not tired).

That 1” Buffer is what you want when driving. If the road is smoovvv, then you’ll not bounce on the frame unless hitting a hole or big dip at speed. Any closer to the frame with added weight equals harsh hits.

 

I like seeing trucks do truck things. I know my bumpstops to well. The ATS HD springs got me where I needed to be. These trucks are legendary.

 

I'm going to look at a mildly modified TJ tonight.
If I love it, the Tundra will be up for grabs in a real serious way.

If I don't love it, I'll really have to do some soul searching about what I want.

I should just buy an e46m3 and get out of 4wd all together...

 

Around here the TJ wins offroad all day everyday. They rust just as bad as these trucks.

 

Jeeps have their place just like Toyotas. I used to shit on Jeeps all day, but have humbly ate my own words from my younger, ignorant years. Do whatever makes you happy. We're all idiots that throw too much money into our vehicles in the grand scheme of things anyway.

 

Who is ‘we’?

Yeah the Jeep is cool. If I was a Rock Climber that would be my choice. Tight trails, too.

Been beat up on long trip drives in an old Jeep, though.

Yeah. My buddies dad had a nice one. We got stuck in it and had to walk out. Dad was driving and didn’t zig when he should have zagged. Thing was plush. Oiled Frames!

 

The utility of the 1st gen smokes a TJ. The jeep is good at 2 things, offroading and going to get ice cream in the summer. The Tundra wins everywhere else.

I saw your post the other day where you were scared to drill into your truck bed due to warranty.

 

It's a Bronco in the movie... but you get it.

 

Except the crew cab with a sunroof and roll down back window is basically a keep. Still wins for ice cream errands

 

I’m kind of indifferent about the Jeep Wrangler. Drove an older one I borrowed for a while. Great city vehicle year round for parking and fitting into tough spaces. Metal bumpers help a lot for bumper bashing. Not the kind of vehicle I’d leave any valuables inside. Way too easy to break into one. Also not the kind of vehicle to make an emergency maneuver on the highway. Feels way too easy to flip. Haven’t driven one of the newer ones though.

Bad frame? They have sectional replacement parts for that. Bad body? Go buy a Kevlar replacement body if you have the cash. That thing has a million aftermarket parts.

 

Jeeps suck at almost everything. Newer Jeeps are trying, and they drive better, but still, it's a Jeep. Just needs to be good at Jeep stuff. Wish I still had my 95 square headlights YJ. Loved that thing. Sucked at everything, but I was in college and thought it was cool. As a college student I got tired of driving it due to how much it sucked at everything. Also had no AC, so while it sucked, it didn't blow.

 

All 4 side windows and the big rear window down with the sunroof open...The 1st Gen even smokes the jeep at summer ice cream runs.

As long as you aren't me and you don't drop a couple thousand into a 4.7 stroker and have it die within 1,000 miles... Jeeps are fun! My xj might be for sale after I fix the engine... Again! Not sure I have it in me for a badass engine build I can't trust will turn out alright. Then again, a v8 swap isn't all that hard in a tj. It's a little tougher in an xj. (As he beats his head while saying "should have just done a v8 swap")

 

Same as any vehicle. I just know I'd be the guy to slip on the drill and really eff it up. My luck/skill is not good. Lol

 

Parking is what my xj actually does well. They are smaller than they might seem at first glance. Now if it just rode as good as a stock tundra and didn't give me a headache

 

last summer my neighbor was installing some copper tubes with lights on the top to his GMC. I told him 1000 times to NOT use his 12" drill bit from under the steering column to run the wire.. he had 0 brakes the following morning. The dealership could not believe that he drove it in that way, and that he was stupid enough to do what he was told not to. Tune of $600 dollars

 

I had 4 XJs in the family and honestly if they didn't rust all to hell here I'd probably still be driving one. My 98 was looking at its 4th set of rockers when I sold it. My parents 99 had a little over 300k on it when they traded it.

 

I also had a couple XJs when I was younger. Straight six was bomb proof and I got plenty of use/abuse out of both before I moved on.

 

The one I currently have will be my 2nd. I think my love for them was either broken by current engine issues or it was mostly nostalgia. There are just other vehicles that do what they do, but better in many ways. I didn't want an ifs vehicle so I wouldn't be tempted to build another suspension. I think I'd rather build 1 4wd front suspension than build two jeep strokers. Lesson learned. Ish.

 

Understandable. Worst I ever had to do was the AW4 NSS switch. What a pain in the ass that was.

 

Taking the doors off the tj only takes about 30 seconds. I have to give it to the jeep because of that. I only want that about 3 days a year though. In real life I want my double cab. Much more versatile.
