There was a survey that went out that gave a few choices, so having a higher trim isn't a surprise. But better keep the name to yourself as I'm sure Toyota wants to not only debut the 2022 Tundra as all new, but this all new super high level trim to compete with Denali's and Limited of Ram and Ford.

if they want to go there and compete with those trims they better really really up their game, thats the land of the gadgets and super nice interiors. not a no storage, mis-matched interior materials, shitty JBL, no heated steering wheel, no adjustable pedals, etc.

should be interesting to see what they bring if they are going into the 65-70K trim land with the top trims of the others, right now my platinum is more like a lariat or mid range ram.

My wife has a black blazer, I have a Mjm tundra. Mjm is a million times easier to care for than black and when it's clean it looks just as good

Problem is they need to go there - those are the trucks all the blogs rate. So Toyota sends a truck that's $15k less but scores 4/10 on interiors while the others get 9 or 10.

My take is that since they have to go there anyways, take some of the basic stuff (storage, heated steering wheel) and go through all the trims. Reduce costs with fewer options and gain a plus for buyers of the low trims. Problem then is the difference between mid level and top level is seat materials and sound system, and maybe a couple computer gimmicks - harder to sell them then.

Agree that heated steering wheel should at least be an option in the SR5, based on what the competition is doing.

I bounce around until I find the perfect truck for me. But my tundra will be sold on Sunday. I’ll drive the Audi until the raptor comes in.

I don’t need more than 8k towing, and payload is never an issue for me.

I love the tundra, but I’m going to capitalize on its unnaturally high resale and get the truck I want. As we all know too, raptors hold their value better than just about any truck, even the tundra.

So true. All other colors look sort of tacky, and white is typically just such an eh color.

Those are nice trucks. Ride super nice, and need No mods!
I wish Toyota had a high output , high articulation, soft riding competition with upgitter switches , a lot of room for a dual battery, etc. Really I’m jealous of the easy coil and shock swap vs. my truck though. Yet, I’m keeping my tundra. Love my truck . Good luck in your search

Cloth heated seats and a heated steering wheel are really nice things to have! Love that the domestics offer that, but wish Toyota would read this forum sometimes!

I’ve owned 6 Toyota’s with the last 2 being tundras. My list of fixes, tsb’s and recalls is a lot longer than your Ford list. First 2018 tundra was bought back it was so bad. Even the 2019 trd pro replacement had to get things fixed in the first few weeks like a broken seat frame, misaligned door panel and loose third brake light (right screw wasn’t long enough to tighten). All manufacturers issues! Comes down to who’s lucky and who is not.

I just won't do black. Here in south TX it is an oven on wheels 8 months a year (doesn't fit in my garage). In the upper midwest where I lived before I had a black car...except for those four months when it was road-salt white.

But yeah black looks great....but I guess I am old enough where practicality FOR ME trumps looks. I think my silver with black trim looks pretty BadA$$ too!

Oh, I'll never argue that Toyotas don't have their issues; but statistically, they're more reliable.

But yeah, I do know a few (ONLY a few) who have seemed to have sh*t luck - thought to be clear, their luck transcends automotive boundaries. LOL

Yup, I've got black and it's a pain in the a$$. Looks great when clean but dont look at it on a sunny day, it show wash scratches and I'm careful when I wash it.

I knew a guy like that. A black cloud followed him everywhere. He spends 18 months restoring a mid-70's Trans Am. His wife gets religion and tells him he has to sell it when finished. Takes at least a $8k bath when he sold it. Two weeks later he comes upon an accident...yup..you guessed it..that Trans Am was T-Boned by a truck..total loss. And then the one afternoon he takes his boat out of storage and "parks" it in front of his house in the middle of a block on a very quiet street the night before a big fishing trip..yup..you guessed it...drunk driver takes the boat down. And then there was the stock margin call, Hallmark ornament investment collapse, yorkie dog biting a guest (big time insurance problem) and on and on. And then on the golf course, we are driving to the next tee box. He stops short of the box in the shade. His partner walks on the tee box. I parked the other cart out in the sun. A freak gust of wind brings down a big limb right on top of the cart he was sitting in. Roughs up his clubs ands gives him some scratches...but the biggest thing was now his cart is trapped on the other side and he has to backtrack over 6 holes to get to where we are. Actually funny...but another example of the black cloud. And I almost forgot...he buys a Toyota Solara Convertible online after much back and fourth. Flies to Ohio to drive it back. On the drive back all kinds of wind noise. Gets it checked...it had been in a bad crash that was never picked up by CarFax. And so goes his life...

    Wow, that is insane.

For some reason this reminds me of the mailbox we "built" 20 years ago. (Disclaimer: Yes, the cops knew about this. LOL) We'd had our mailbox mown over like 3x in a few weeks, and I got fed up. At the time I didn't know this wasn't allowable...but my landlord and I bought the following:

    - large mailbox
    - small mailbox
    - 8' iron pipe
    - flange for pipe
    - several 4" long bolts
    - 2 bags of Sakrete

You can see where this is going. Attached the flange to the mailbox with 4" bolts, put the small box in the big box, filled the void with Sakrete, and let it sit for a few days. Buried all but 42" of the pipe in the ground, and mounted the mailbox.

The NEXT MORNING we were asleep and heard a *boom*. Went outside and saw the suspected truck limping away. The cops drove right around the corner and got him on a few charges; his truck was essentially totaled. Turns out he'd been suspected of mowing over like 40+ mailboxes. O_O

The mailbox had a scratch or two on it. :p According to locals and the PD, the mailbox is still there and is somewhat of a local attraction, and I'm a minor legend. LOL

I'll just put this out there. Take it for what it is worth.

I'm assuming that Toyota has begun switching over the Texas plant now for the new Tundras and ending Tacoma production.

Local dealers here only can get 3 VIN Mexican Tacomas, no 5 VIN USA Tacomas. I looked on every local dealer's website who had Tacomas and nearly all their inventory are 3 VIN trucks.

Local preference here has always been for the 5's and dealers would always discount a 3 or throw in a sweetener to get those trucks off the lot. Now there is literally no choice. A few 5s that are probably in the pipeline still dribble in but for how much longer?

It'd be months - I live a good 1000 miles away from there now. I might see if I can convince the in-laws to drive out there some day and take some pics.

Knew of something similar posted, people right away start with post office laws that say it cant be solid mounted or something. Why is one allowed and not the other?
