I'd agree to clean up my truck and make it all pretty if someone would give me a measly $23k for it. For that price I'd even paint the shell and install the raptor shocks on the rear. Then again I have no idea what I'd buy to replace it. I guess it would be a good excuse to buy that raptor I never got or build a super cab eco boost into a raptor clone.

if your truck works for you, that sounds like a huge gamble with a very low upside

I wouldn't bet on it. The only thing which might bring down prices would be very high fuel prices.

Just listening to the mumblings of “experts” and DC, betting on massively increased fuel taxes is a very safe bet

Ive had both. My 77 Jimmy 3 speed was no race truck, but with it’s transfer case it could pull stumps and could run through rivers and washes and pretty much everything. I had a F250 with a 460 that was no rock crawler, too long, but that thing was an animal. My gen 1 tundra is 2WD, it will get me anywhere on road, not just paved. It has mud and snow limitations. I will be back at 4WD with lockers in my next ride. But, I’ve seen plenty of 4WD need a winch or shovel in areas I don’t because I know how to drive off highway. 90% of people around where I live who have lifts, 4WD, snorkels, light bars ATs, etc will never use or need them. I’ll take an experienced driver in a 2WD over a poser in a 4 all day long.

My 2wd ranger with a locked has been some places. Momentum sure helps and a good suspension helps that. Lower gears would be nice though.

Quick search on 1st gens has them at about $10-12k ranging from 150-200k miles... legendary status confirmed.

Makes me feel like I stole the thing for $3000 back in early 2020

I have a 2001 in NH. Frame replaced. Rear end replaced and transmission replaced all with oem Toyota. But 20 years of New England winters has created some cancer on the bed sides. Well cared for runs strong. But in New Hampshire I don’t think it’s worth anything.

I gotta get under mine and assess the rust. Coming from MD, it had the frame spray (didn't stick around). backing plates are trashed. Just a lot of rusty components that I need to address here soon. Still under 150k miles, though. They seem to be selling for a good price out here in CO, but mine wouldn't hold much value with all of the rust underneath.

Likely a better deal due to the rust issues yours has. A clean rust free one will pull $10k+ all day long.

Yeah with the 6 cylinder, I think that was typical when you had a manual tranny.

They were overpriced 30 years ago. They're fully stupid now.

They're out there. More dollars than cents. I have a friend who buys them, cleans them up a trifle, and sells them for big money.
I don't even like the damned things.

I keep hoping that Porsche bubble never pops. I don't want to go upside down on this thing in my garage as I'm pretty close to being invested what it's worth.

You need to buy that and put that manual case in your truck. Or go all out and swap all kinds of shit and end up with a v8, stick, and manual case. Mmmmmhmmmmm

The bedside in front of the tire on the drivers side has bubblies, figured it wasn't an early sign. No other rust on the truck?
