Here is a view into the fish camp life in a topper

 

I need to figure out a cargo slide.

I saved the old bearings from my bike frame for this purpose. I am going to go look around tacoworld and see what I can find.

Thoughts so far:
Half inch plywood and aluminum to keep the weight down.
Full extension or at least 5 of the 6 foot length.
The slide will be centered or possibly take up the right 2/3rds of the bed.

Brute Force Fab makes the bumper. The shell is a ARE V Series made for a DC. Inexpensive roof basket and CVT awning.

 

Water and power throughout the campsite. Thank God for portable AC.

Packed up and went to East Texas last weekend. Did a 7 mile ride in 90% humidity and remembered why I moved out west.

There are a lot of noobs camping out there right now. I predict they paint their rock and get over camping in short order, at least that is the hope.

Webster’s Dictionary defines Overlanding as: Carry was too much $hit with you and driving to work with a roof top tent on your truck.

 

I think any thread started in the first gen section can be assumed to be 1st gen specific. We have a general tundra forum for full participation.

 

You’re both right. We may have avoided several of the guest postings if the thread title indicates “1st Gen”… but I figured OP either assumed readers would notice the sub-forum* or else he doesn’t know how to edit the thread.


*In my experience, only 1st Gen owners check the sub-forums. Kinda makes sense, as every other generation is the same except for a hood scoop.

I think this stuff would be awesome with a bit of velcro to attach it to the felt in the camper shell. I think I have found some that it 45" wide. I think that would cover the flat area of my shell roof. I would use it for light weight gear like kayak paddles, dog bowels and stuff like that.

You were right. I was unable to get the dog bowels up there. The dog is going to have to ride down below. I was able to get 2 6 gallon water jugs and 2 kayak paddles in there though. I will probably end up adding a bungie mid way back to help support the weight a little better. The drawback to this is I will not be able to velcro stuff to the roof anymore. This project cost an evening and forty won doll bears.

 

Tried out the ol “bike tube between the camper shell” trick this evening. Works like a freaking charm. Figured I’d see how much I can cool it down by closing off the outside vents and repurposing my shop vac hose.


Let’s just say that I will now be willing to camp any time of the year. I was able to get it from 88 ambient air temp to 73 in under 12 minutes. I can remote start my truck and extend or cut short the run time all from the convenience of my little home away from home.

Really wish I had the full size flip window in my shell like some of you other guys.

I don't see the bike tube. This is an official daylight picture request.

 

I figured that was kind of self explanatory. Partially blow up a 29” tube and wedge it into place. As you put more air into it, it gets much, much larger in diameter and will seal off the whole window opening. You will need to poke and push it around a bit to get it seated in the correct spots. I’ll get a pic this afternoon.

I thought my janky “shop vac brush nozzle jammed into an air vent” would raise more eyebrows than the bike tube. Haha
