Dead stock with oem 16" starfish wheels. We'll see how long that lasts. :) Topper of unknown origin.
Jack stands? Not cinder blocks? You're definitely in a fancy neighborhood.

Coupe of thoughts, depending on what you really want out of the truck, $10k-$15k is a pretty hefty budget. You could get almost all the way there for $5K. Can you post up a list of what you'd want to be replacing on the truck?

Second thought, if you're going hard core off-road, it's hard to beat a jeep.

Third thought, buy a 4runner! Seriously just do it. You can have it be very capable off-road and still street drivable and it looks really good with a mountain bike hanging off the back. You can get 3rd and 4th gens for a pretty good deal (or at least pre covid). I've seen a ton I'd love to have for under $4k.

    Fourth thought, Razr!!!!!!!!!!

Fifth thought, maybe rent a jeep and see what you'd be doing with it. Just like in the MTB world lots of people buy a killer enduro bike and then realize they are riding dirt roads with their kids, so their $8k bike is actually worse than a $1k hardtail. Or they get a full on downhill bike and go to the lift park once a year. If you overbuild your truck it can make it much more cumbersome 90% of the time.

Last thought, I used to spend a bunch of time on MTBR and I would always be disappointed with my bikes, but then I'd go for a ride and remember that I actually really liked my bikes and even though I didn't have top shelf suspension, the motion control pike was a pretty nice fork.

I agree with almost everything you said right down to hanging out on MTBR. I don't get the razr thing. A built jeep would run about the same money and resale value on the jeep has to destroy the razr right? You can also drive the jeep to go get icecream with the kids. A Razr is illegal on public roads right?

Well I wanted ARP head studs for the sequoia since it’ll be apart for a head gasket job. Can’t find em anywhere in stock and at least a month wait.

think I should just go with oem head bolts or another recommended brand?

I did order some dirty deeds 12 hole Injectors this morning.

shop doing the work assured me they only use oem parts

talked to a dude at ATS Springs this morning. Sounds like the HD 4/1 version of their leaf springs add 1.5" of lift and that's enough to get rid of the 1.25" blocks I have back there. Hopefully the ride won't be too harsh with those and the new 10 ply tires.

@chrisb pretty hard decision. Access cab isn't too long in my opinion, a bit awkward if you are used to a smaller truck or jeep for sure.

Really depends what you want put of the vehicle and what your mod list would be. I wouldn't want a jeep for a daily, as fun as that seems they aren't the safest. My neighbor drove one daily and had a horrific death on his drive home from work, it included the jeep rolling on the freeway and him being ejected and hitting a big rig before the ground. Very worst case scenario, but things like that come to mind. For a dedicated trail rig and occasionally street driver(moderate speeds), jeep wouldn't be too bad.

For 10-15k you could go long travel and have a super capable truck, but that does take away a bit from daily driving ease and comfort. Its arguable that a stock jeep could go anywhere a long travel tundra could, and have 10-15k in pocket. Tundra would be more reliable and have the V8 grunt for fun.

Actually I just made your mind up for you. Forget a jeep, leave the Tundra alone and keep it. Rally the Porsche!

RZRs can be legal for street use. Varies by state. I've got one of mine plated.

IIRC the first 3 years are the hardest on SxS resale. Something like 30% in those 3 years, but after that they don't drop a ton. Also very easy to sell at any point.

Jeeps take $$$ to get set up for real offroad capability; SxS are already good to go out of the box. If you're sticking to a budget you can get equal offroad capabilities for less in a SxS.

Jeeps are going to have more value initially, and likely have a longer life overall.

Neither is a wrong answer, but you should consider what suits your needs best.

This is too true. Cheap parts are out there but it's a get what you pay for deal.

I've had a bunch of Jeeps and at this point especially a 25+year old one, there's no way I'd DD it.

My $10k-$15k number includes replacing basically every suspension piece that can be unbolted from the chassis, wheels, tires, and a little headroom because I've yet to come in under budget.
I have the 911 and Kelly's Audi if I really need to drive a long distance on the freeway. But I'll be daily driving whatever I choose for 1/3-1/2 the year. (winter mostly, but also gnarlier weather and MTB/offroad adventure)

I am considering a v8 t4r, but the somewhat flimsy front CVs are offputting. It would certainly be more comfortable on road tho.

I will forgive you for suggesting I safari :vomitemoji: my 911.
But only because we're aircooled bros and a baja beetle would be fun as a bish. :)

What kind of off roading do you plan to do? Got any pictures? The tundra is a great multi trick pony. My tundra is better at getting work done. Towing, hauling, camping ect. My 4runner is way better offroad though.

I've only driven one once so it could be a little dreamy eyed, but 21 inches of suspension travel and not caring about it appeal to me. They are stupid expensive though, but I feel like I could beat the tar out of it and not care.

No I haven’t. Been reading the turd gen section on this Ceramic. Seems their wood breaking has subsided on it. They were strong when it first came out.

I’ve been using Liquid Wax since truck was new once or twice (sometimes 3) a year since new. The new spray waxes are nice. The Car Soap with Carubana Wax in it is great for betweener jobs.

Conclusion: Never used it, but the pros that do seem to think its not worth the effort/cost. A good product, but $$$ and time consuming.

I you decide to keep the truck, Here's two budgets. Option 1 is OME shocks, stock UCA, used takeoff wheels, BFG tires and HD leafs from general or ats. Option 2 is King, ADS, Icon, etc..., total chaos UCA, and custom leaf springs.

I'm going through dog training right now. Wife and I recently lost my GSP after 2 months of trying to diagnose the problem only to find out there was not treating it. She was only 10 and previous summer did a couple 18-20 mile day hikes with us. We stumbled across another GSP and I'm having to remember how to train a pup. She's smart and is going to be great if her owners don't screw her up.

I ordered some door reinforcement plates from that guy that was mentioned previously. His prices are very reasonable and include shipping. $25.

So today I hand cranked the timing belt and sure enough, no writing whatsoever. Think I’ll replace all the typical items with the timing belt as well. Waterpump, pulleys and the green belt you all put on...

Good thing I really enjoy working on my truck or id be pretty upset.

Check my build page for all the other parts that you can put in while in there. Seems expensive, but it all needs to come so might as well put new back in. Only thing you might not need is an Alternator, but it’ll be brutal if you need to get back in there. Seems you are really doing everything up right so far, so you’ll be stoked.

Thanks, I’ll check it out again. I browse through there every now and then till I feel overwhelmed with all you’ve done lol.
You are right tho, I rather change parts that might go out soon as well. Power steering is on list while I’m in there.

I’ve read about the upgrade for the alternator by using a Sequoia alternator?
